Description
Two things flashed through my mind when I opened the door to the sex shop to find my mother standing in front of the display case talking to a tall salesman wearing a leather harness, jock strap and a dog collar. The first was, "Oh, crap." The second was, "I hate when Dad's right." Following the sudden death of his father, a single, middle-aged gay guy struggles with his own mortality be reminiscing about the travels with his gregarious mother. Hilarious, engaging, and heartwarming. This is not the type of book that I would normally read, but on a whim I decided to try something from a local author, and within the first few pages I was hooked. Mr. Morrison's writing is truly an enjoyable and fast paced read. I laughed out loud over and over from his amusing tales and unique perspectives on life while he recollected times and situations that many of us have in common, and a few that we probably don't. Travels with Penny was very hard to put down.
This book made me laugh out loud, David Alan Morrison knows what makes a good story. His characters are people you want to get to know and spend time with. He writes about family and relationships in a way that is honest, real and ....comical - which makes it even more real. David "gets" people and this book shows that. Read it. Enjoy it.
Was thrilled staying up till 1am for two nights reading this book. The lack of sleep was a good trade-off for getting to read this wonderful adventure. It was funny and clever but also so insightful in regards to all the relationships we cherish on so many levels. Thank you for this joyful romp through your travels and your heart!
