Description

A Desert in Bloom is a timeless adventure set across a century of change. Like The Grapes of Wrath, it has its roots in the Great Depression, in a landscape torn by poverty and prejudice. Like Lonesome Dove, it is a heartfelt journey of the willing.

Two unlikely friends wander the west in old Ford station wagon. One is fighting time and the other addiction. In quiet confessions, they travel a past steeped in mystery and grace - and a present plagued by loss. The people they meet are unpredictable: aristocrats, mobsters, strong women and weak men. It's a jagged trail, lined with flash floods, jailbreaks, heartbreak and war.

Based on a mostly true story, A Desert in Bloom spans five generations - a braided history peppered by con artists, movie stars, car chases and big cats. Set against the relentless destruction of the natural world, it is one family’s destiny unfolding in a road trip for the soul.

- Catherine Curran

- Richard Hayes
