In a world ravaged by shadow, fifteen-year-old Slad Amulet begins seeing terrible things in his sleep and decides that something must be very, very wrong. He discovers that his sleep visions, called dreams, provide clues to the past he cannot remember. Suddenly, his life is cast into a world steeped in danger, light, myth, and darkness.

Slad is the only dreamer left, and dreams belong to the Omulus.

The formidable trapper, Malachi, finds Slad and begins to stalk him. Malachi, henchman to a dark queen, hopes to capture Slad so that his majesty may siphon the power of the Omulus from him to access the dream realm.Slad seeks to close the portal to the dark realm at the bequest of a trusted guardian.

Accompanied by Tug and Finn, their course takes them into the wilds of a post-apolcalyptic Earth, and Slad has no choice but to trust his dreams as he pieces together his past and uncovers the truth of his origins.
