Description
Amazon bestselling author of As Sick as Our Secrets and 14 Days to Die, A.B. Whelan returns with Easy Prey—a razor-sharp psychological thriller about deception, obsession, and the chilling consequences of misplaced trust.
He stole her sister’s money, her trust, and her life. Now Jules is taking everything back—even if it kills her.
When a young woman takes her own life under suspicious circumstances, her sister, Jules, begins asking questions no one wants answered. At the center of it all: a lavish romance with a man no one can quite trace, and a silence filled with secrets.
Determined to uncover the truth, Jules steps into a world of deception, digital masks, and the kind of charm that hides sharp teeth. But as her search spirals into obsession, she discovers that love isn’t the only thing that can blind you—and justice doesn’t always come clean.
Some predators don’t hunt in the shadows.
Some walk right through your front door.
If you like the Tinder Swindler documentary and you are a fan of psychological thrillers, then this book is for you.
If you think you’re too smart to be conned, think again. Easy Prey is Whelan at her finest—twisty, chilling, and disturbingly true to life.
A Note From the Publisher
I wrote Easy Prey after witnessing firsthand how easily trust can be weaponized. Two people I met in real life—both shameless liars, both convincing—turned out to be swindlers. One devastated someone close to me, emotionally and financially. The other, so many fake gurus online, built a web of lies so convincing it nearly caught me too. He preys on vulnerability. Especially women’s. Especially online.
Those experiences left scars. They also left questions: How do you recover from betrayal that deep?
The internet, in many ways, is both a blessing and a curse. It connects us, gives us opportunities, and offers a platform for every voice. But it also gives liars and manipulators a stage—one where they can carefully script their identities, hide their motives, and play God with people’s lives. The lines between truth and performance are blurring, and we're all paying the price for it.
What makes it worse is that these people almost never face consequences. They rarely see prosecution or even public exposure. They dance in the gray areas of the law—just far enough from criminal, but close enough to destroy lives. That’s what makes these betrayals so much more painful. Because we watch them reinvent themselves, lie shamelessly, and go after more victims without pause. The injustice of it all that hurts the most.
Writing Easy Prey became my way of working through that confusion. It’s about a sister’s grief, yes—but also about the quiet courage it takes to piece together a broken truth. It's about the women who don’t always get justice the conventional way, and the men who think they’ll never be caught.
If this story makes you uneasy, that’s okay. I wanted it to. Because this happens. Every day. And the people who cause that kind of harm? They rarely look like villains. They look like promises.
To those who’ve been fooled, manipulated, discarded, or gaslit into silence—I see you. You’re not weak. You’re not alone. And you are never the fool.
Thank you for trusting me with your time.

Advance Praise
"OMG, this book is spell-bounding, I couldn’t put it down, my husband had to tell me to go to bed. Andrea out did herself on this one. It makes you think about things, you’d didn’t think existed. I love the way she makes you think you’re right there in the book, with her characters."
