Description

Punk was created for the malcontents, something that loner and aspiring drummer Hallie understands all too well. Trapped in a boring suburban life – dysfunctional parents included! – Hallie drowns her angst in the angry songs of Haze, a masked musician who has not been heard from in five years. So naturally she’s surprised – and more than a little skeptical – when someone who seems to be Haze starts flirting with her via her favorite photo-sharing app. Is he who he says he is? What does he want from her? The questions only multiply when Hallie — along with bandmate Sarah and aspiring music journalist Steve — roadtrip to Haze's comeback gig to unmask the reclusive musician once and for all.

A Note From the Publisher

In the debut young adult novel by MTV’s Brenna Ehrlich, punk rock drummer Hallie is trapped in a boring suburban life – her best friend gets all of the attention, her dysfunctional parents sleep on different sides of the house and she’s obsessed with the angst-filled rock of a masked musician. Until a message – possibly from the object of her affections – turns her world around in a terrifying way.

Huffington Post has called “Placid Girl” an awesome upcoming book, and Teen Vogue said it’s one to have on the summer radar. The book is Ehrlich’s second effort, following the success of her first book, “Stuff Hipsters Hate,” which was featured in the New York Post and on NPR’s Marketplace. “Placid Girl” will be released on Ehrlich’s All Ages Press, which creates weird books, tapes and zines for teens.

Advance Praise

"If you think this book is just about two high school chicks in a small-town rock band, then you probably think 'Jaws' is just a movie about three old dudes in a boat. After reading and destroying the edge of my seat in the process, I'll never look at a mask again without cursing Brenna Ehrlich's name." -- Ryan Kattner, Man Man
"A mixture of dynamic prose and punk rock attitude makes for a dark, realistic story that won't let the read put the book down until the last page is turned." - Tonya Kuper, "Anomaly"
"Ehrlich's voice is the guitar humming just before that power chord rips through the room. She's a fast and loose drum beat. She's a singer of a rousing and utterly captivating song." - Eric Victorino, The Limousines
"A sharp, funny story about big dreams, small towns, and the bad choices you make on your way to the right one, Placid Girl will resonate with the aspiring rock star within you." - Sarah McCarry, "All Our Pretty Songs"
