Charles Bukowski had a very distinctive style. He wrote in a simple and often cruel, unforgiving voice. A typical story would involve isolation, alcohol, writing, hookers, and gambling. He wrote about the scum of the city. He became the scum. His words were scum, and it was all so damn beautiful.
