Description

Equal parts romance and political thriller, The Representative poses the question: Can love survive politics?

John David Dothan is a romantic, an artist who has lost his way. Put up as a pawn by his employer, Dothan the underdog expectedly wins a seat in the Texas Legislature. But he is more than just a puppet for his father-in-law’s business interests; he is a patsy in a macabre political plot as well; a conspiracy that begins with a school bus bombing on the southern border.

Befriended by a senior colleague, the freshman representative finds himself appointed to an august committee created to address the recent attack. Dothan discovers his first love, Rachael Logan, is now a state senator and serving beside him. The two become a hot political item and the public face of the committee’s contentious legislation.

But what the paranoid legislature and the public don’t know about their past relationship can not only destroy them, but the committee’s ambiguous objective as well.

Dothan’s disgraced former opponent turns up dead, but not before he pens three letters exposing the truth. The recipients of these identical letters are doomed. Dothan is one; the other two?

Part Nelson DeMille, part Larry McMurtry, with a nod to Graham Greene, The Representative is a novel that explores corruption and heartache in equal measure. Can love survive politics? The answer will both stun and suspend.
