Elly Bryce is the only person who has the power to save two worlds and she doesn’t even know it—but her enemies do.

Elly is a small town university student struggling with course work, family, and a floundering social life. She’s “a bull in a china shop” when it comes to making friends and she can turn a simple conversation into a train wreck. Those are things she's trying hard not to repeat, but Elly’s resolve to keep her unusual behaviour to herself falls short when she meets Ethan.

Ethan isn’t bothered by Elly’s “parlour tricks” and Elly is determined to find out why. She discovers more than she bargains for when she meets Ethan. Ethan introduces her to a world in which time shifts, gravity is a fluid concept, and Elly’s talent for derailing things is actually a valued skill sought after by the chaeli, an army of time-corrupted humans intent on recruiting more humans into their ranks.

The cians have protected the humans from the chaeli's influence for centuries, but the cians and the protection they offer ends if the chaeli get to Elly. With the fate of both cians and humans at stake, Ethan has his work cut out for him if he intends to ensure the chaeli don't acquire their "weapon", but even Ethan can’t protect Elly from herself.

Through her own penchant for misadventure, Elly finds herself in a battle for her life. In order to survive, Elly will have to follow Ethan beyond the only life she has known to discover the place, the purpose, and the love for which she was created.
