Description
Thou shalt rule in the name of the Radiance.
Thou shalt vanquish anyone in opposition to the Radiance.
Thou art perfect.
And thou shalt rejoice.
The US is in a state of disrepair. The government has been overtaken by a cult of extremists who glorify a mysterious entity known as the Radiance. Their leader, a sadistic High Priest by the name of Roman Chasnik, rules with an iron fist, spreading his doctrine across the world and executing anyone who dares to speak out against him.
Paul Letterman doesn’t want to be involved in any of this. But he doesn’t have a choice. After a disastrous car crash, Paul awakens in the palace of Chasnik himself, and finds himself a pawn in a complicated political game that’s just beginning. Via an unexpected turn of events, Paul soon becomes a nationwide symbol of freedom and rebellion.
As Paul flees the grasp of the sinister Roman Chasnik, he grapples with his role in the world, and must decide what he will do with his newfound influence. He is a beacon of hope in a dark world, and if he chooses to fight, he may just become the spark which burns down Chasnik’s nefarious theocracy.

This was a fascinating read and worked well as a opening chapter in the Turn of Power series, it had that feel that I was wanting and enjoyed in this type of book. I was engaged with the characters and the world and thought the overall feel was perfectly done. North Taylor was able to create something that worked and left me wanting to read more in this series and from the author.
