Madalyn Kinsey was raised in Indianapolis, Indiana, and has lived and worked as a corporate attorney in Indianapolis, Chicago, and San Francisco. Searching for inspiration for her writing, she called upon fond memories of frequent childhood visits with cousins on the family farm near Fishers, Indiana, where abandoned buildings, a Civil War-era graveyard only steps from the house (rumored to be haunted by a Civil War soldier), a mysterious creek running through the property, and a nearby municipal airport, made her real-life visits fascinating and full of adventure. Those memories have inspired the plots of her Vanessa Mysteries series, the first of which was The Ghost of Cheeney Creek, and now its sequel, The Mystery of Gatewood Airport. In each book, her main character, 14-year old Vanessa, and her cousins and their friend, Jim, are swept into new and different adventures requiring courage and commitment to friendship and family.
