Everywhere She Ran is a fast‐paced mystery novel by A. Eveline and a gripping read. Leyla James’s frantic journey across the United States is captured in a relay of short, punchy sentences that heighten the tension with every turn of the page. She’s characterized as capable and professional, yet with a frightening naïveté that leads her into danger. With a tendency to be too trusting, she left my nerves in tatters.

The novel’s theme centers on untrustworthiness . . . My favorite thing is the constant sense of tension A. Eveline creates through her wonderful storytelling. The ending is a shocker, and although Leyla detects discrepancies in characters' behavior early on, A. Eveline works hard to dispel suspicion. I honestly didn’t see it coming . . . a great read.

Eveline builds suspense steadily, layering the story with a criminal lead, a government angle, and a family secret hinted at by Leyla's mother, all without losing the thread. The pandemic setting fits naturally into the story, shaping how characters move and talk without getting in the way. Leyla is a solid protagonist. She doesn't take unnecessary risks, but she doesn't wait around either. Her relationship with Dave feels genuine and develops naturally. Eveline also knows when to hold back, giving the reader just enough to stay curious without telegraphing what comes next. The political threads, while interesting, don't get much development . . . For readers who like their mysteries character-driven and carefully plotted, this series is definitely worth following.
