Etan is an architect in his thirties, designing homes and cities in a California reshaped by the Deluge.

Society moves with the quiet efficiency of technology. Nearly every choice is suggested, every life guided. People wear Rays, smart glasses that manage communication, entertainment, and knowledge. Some have even chosen to implant a biochip, loaded with apps that promise cures for cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and more.

Etan has always followed the system. But when the Everlasting feature, an app by the biochip company that grants eternal youth, is announced, something stirs within him. Questions he cannot answer begin to take hold, driving him beyond the lines society has drawn and into communities outside the Union, where life is quieter, freer, and far more revealing than he could have imagined.

As he seeks purpose away from the Union, he discovers something far more unsettling, exposing the world he has always trusted and the purpose he never knew he was meant to dig out.
