Description
The day Roe v. Wade was overturned, Amber Stewart was watching her first tomato plants sprout in her brand new garden. A year and a half later, she and her wife had left the U.S. entirely.
In the Garden: An Almanac for Uprooting is a literary memoir-in-essays about a queer couple who left Nashville after Tennessee's anti-trans legislation threatened their family — and what it meant to start over as immigrants in Montevideo, Uruguay. Written as an almanac of exile, it is a book about belonging and displacement, grief and reinvention, and the unexpected grace of planting a life somewhere new.
