Description

A talking tigress. A wandering yogi. A young woman's journey through an ancient land where chaos threatens gods and mortals alike.

A tigress speaks to the outcaste girl Mala, and as she flees in terror she collides with an old yogi. She offers him hospitality, and in return he spins wondrous tales that awaken her hunger for forbidden spiritual knowledge.

Thus begins her quest for freedom, on which she meets gods and goddesses, outlaws and kings, and the young prince prophesies to become the Buddha. She escapes slavery and finds happiness, then suffers a terrible loss for which she seeks revenge as a ruthless outlaw, worshiping a dark goddess and mastering occult powers. When her thirst for blood leads her to commit an unspeakable act, the yogi she met long ago appears and offers to teach her yoga's path to peace.

Inner demons guard that path. Will Mala have the courage to face them?

Advance Praise

“The writing is of high quality, deftly shifting focus from one scene to another with a polish that conceals the storyteller…Schanfield’s portrayal of the feminine aspects of the divine is highly potent, and key women characters are neither entirely submissive and frail, nor their stereotypical opposite, overbearing and burdensome…Grounded strongly in visceral details, The Tigress and the Yogi appeals to all the senses and creates a deeply saturated world.” – Excerpt from Foreword Clarion Reviews (The Tigress and the Yogi received a perfect 5-star review)

“…fascinating reading for anyone remotely interested in Eastern religion and culture…With a strong and graceful writing style, Schanfield combines spirituality and action in a way that’s consistently compelling…an impressive debut…” - BlueInk
