Social Commentary & Rock n’ Roll Comedy Collide in Genre-Bending Fiction Debut

CAN A BAND OF DRUG ADDICTS SAVE THE WORLD IN SIX DAYS?

The highly anticipated forthcoming debut novel from internationally renowned academic and addiction researcher Dr. Peter Ferentzy, The Corrective – a six-day journey [May 2016] could be described in a multitude of ways. It’s a gonzo action-adventure comedy. A deeply philosophical treatise on the governing approach to drug and alcohol addiction treatment. A scathing indictment of contemporary political rhetoric and a world rife with hatred and bias.

But at its core, The Corrective poses a controversial question: could four crack and heroin users save the world in six days? Could they stave off World War III, derail the prison system, liberate half a million zoo animals, settle ethnic strife in Eastern Europe, unite warring Muslim nations, and generate prosperity in Sudan? Can the Navajo nation declare autonomy? Can the South rise again?

Widely regarded as brilliant (and perhaps ever-so-slightly deranged), Ferentzy seems to think so – and with The Corrective, sets out to change the popular narrative that surrounds society’s “undesirables”… and open the world’s eyes to the propaganda, bigotry, and warped political agendas in which this perception is rooted.

Set in North America in the not-so-distant future, The Corrective follows four protagonists – active crack and heroin users – who hatch a plan to dismantle a repressive and puritanical regime known as The Collective. Throughout the story, they must deal with “Stalkers” (fanatics intent upon killing drug addicts, the mentally ill, and other misfits), doomsday cultists, and (indirectly) nefarious “big ticket” players in North America, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Ultimately, the execution of their plan surpasses even their wildest expectations – and dramatically changes the global political landscape.

The Corrective is really all about addiction,” Ferentzy reveals, “but the trick is that whether someone is addicted to dope, a former lover, or to war and age-old hatreds, the challenge for every actor is to get over it.”

“Every player in The Corrective, drug addicted or not, must struggle in a similar fashion against being stuck,” he continues. “And addicts can accomplish much more than our ruling authorities would have you believe. Recovery does not necessarily require complete abstinence.”

As wild and phantasmagoric as it is terrifyingly timely, The Corrective is a not-to-be-missed novel from one of today’s most refreshing and controversial academics – and sure to find a cult following upon its May 2016 release.
