HISTORY ISN'T REMEMBERED. IT'S CONTROLLED.
For fans of the unflinching truth-seeking of Justina Ireland's Dread Nation and the intricate historical puzzles of The Da Vinci Code.
What if the past wasn’t exactly what we were told?
Sixteen-year-old Indi Brooks has always had anemoia: nostalgia for a time in which she never lived. But when visions of the past begin invading her waking life, she starts to realize something unexplainable is happening. She’s actually seeing history.
Each vision pulls her into a moment that once shaped the world: events recorded in textbooks, whispered about in rumors, or buried completely. But what Indi sees doesn’t always match the official record.
The visions arrive without warning, dragging her into moments she can’t control or explain. As they grow stronger, the urgency to understand what’s happening to her, and why, grows with them.
And the more she sees, the harder it becomes to ignore something else: What if some of the most important moments in history were never told the way they actually happened?
ABOUT THE BOOK
The Vibe: A concept-driven, upper YA coming-of-age speculative fiction primarily set in the year 2000. It explores the little-known stories behind some of history's most famous figures and events as told through the eyes of a 16-year-old girl who discovers there's more to herself than even she knew.
The Research: The book features eight mini stories about some of the most famous historical figures and events. While the specific scenes and dialogue are dramatized, they are grounded in extensive historical research.
Who it's for: Those who like historical puzzles, coming-of-age stories, high-concept YA, hidden history, or you're just nostalgic for the year 2000.
Content note: While this novel is written for young adults, it's intended as an upper YA novel that may not be suitable for younger teens. It contains mild profanity and period-accurate historical content (including colonialism, prejudice, and mild violence) that some readers may find distressing. The sensitive material is handled with restraint, and events are witnessed or referenced rather than graphically depicted. These elements serve to accurately reflect the complexities of the past rather than to shock the reader.
A Note From the Publisher
Part of the experience of Timecode is the organic discovery of what the protagonist sees in her visions. To protect the experience of readers who come after you, please avoid publicly naming specific historical figures or events contained in the book.
