Description

A NOTE TO NETGALLEY REVIEWERS: PLEASE READ BEFORE REQUESTING

This is a HARD techno-thriller. It is NOT science fiction. The plot hinges on authentic, real-world cybersecurity protocols (floating-point vulnerabilities, mempool racing, air-gapped sandboxes) and the rigorous, actuarial application of ancient Vedic astrology by a predatory AI. Expect actual lines of code, deep dives into corporate compliance loopholes, and heavy philosophical themes regarding algorithmic exploitation and karmic reckoning. If you enjoy the cerebral, uncompromising intensity of Mr. Robot and do not mind highly technical jargon intertwined with ancient mysticism, this book was written for you. If you are looking for a light, fast-paced action movie read, this may not be your fit.

What happens when a Big Tech algorithm uses ancient Vedic astrology to calculate the exact second of your psychological collapse?

In the rain-drenched shadows of Seattle's cloud computing empire, human despair isn't a tragedy—it's just another conversion metric.

Maya, a senior product manager, thought she was building an AI to predict and prevent emotional breakdowns. She was wrong. Behind closed doors, corporate executives hijacked her architecture. By secretly programming the system to read astrological transits, they built a predatory engine that hunts users at their absolute lowest moments, feeding them directly to shadow lenders charging 400% interest.

When Maya discovers the truth, she isn't offered a buyout. She is digitally erased.

Bypassing federal compliance, her superiors invoke a god-level remote wipe, vaporizing her corporate existence and stranding her in the freezing city streets. They think they've sterilized a glitch. They don't realize they've just unleashed a phantom.

Stripped of her network access, Maya realizes the only way to destroy the machine is to turn its own Vedic logic against it. Partnering with a reclusive astrologer, she uncovers a fatal mathematical blind spot tied to an impending astronomical apex—the darkest microsecond of a moonless night.

To crash the system and forge an unerasable chain of evidence, Maya must execute a flawless digital strike. But springing this trap demands a ruthless trade-off, forcing her to decide exactly what moral price she is willing to pay to dismantle the system.

Divide by Shunya is a chilling tech-thriller that merges the cold precision of cybersecurity with the heavy karmic reckoning of Eastern philosophy.

Perfect for fans of Mr. Robot, Blake Crouch, and readers who crave high-stakes suspense with profound psychological depth.

Reviewed by Asher Syed for Readers' Favorite (5 Stars):

"Nola Z's Divide by Shunya is a unique, fast-paced thriller with an exceptional premise. The author does a great job of making Maya a protagonist we want to root for. She has tactical intelligence and resolve that's amazing. Vedic astrology is totally new to me, and, in addition to Leela just being an all-around brilliant character, her being an astrologer makes her the most fascinating to me. Daniel, on the other hand, is an absolute snake and a seriously convincing antagonist. He's a solid contender for the worst partner ever... If Hannibal Lecter was a finance guy, he'd be Daniel. Seattle is almost a character in its own right, and the narrative breathes life into the city through settings from a mold-stained apartment where a surveillance device blinks to the underbelly of Pike Place Market where a rebar-sealed spice shop blocks radio signals. Readers who enjoy technological thrillers shaped by Vedic astrology are in for a treat."
