Description

One of the first ‘multimedia’ books to hit the market, complete with a full-length album of original songs, Sex, No Drugs & Rock ‘N’ Roll: Memoirs of a Music Junkie by industry veteran L.E. Kalikow, gives a fascinating, no-holds-barred look at the rapid – and often radical – evolution of the music business from an insider’s perspective. Sex, No Drugs & Rock ‘N’ Roll is a ‘balls-to-the-wall’ coming of age story told – often in graphic detail – through the eyes of a ‘Baby Boomer Holden Caulfield’ who simultaneously matures with the country itself. From the innocent invulnerability of the 50’s following World War II and the teenage years of rebellion and political unrest in the 60’s, to the disillusionment and cynicism of the late 70’s, the dots connect in Kalikow’s literary debut in two universal languages: music and sex. An explicitly frank look at popular music and sexual norms, Sex, No Drugs & Rock ‘N’ Roll explores how shifts in music corresponded with changes in society and the American way of life as a whole.

“If you’ve ever wondered what it was like opening for major rock stars or the details of the political nature of the music business, Kalikow has you covered.” -AXS Entertainment

In the recently published “Sex, No Drugs & Rock’N’Roll: Memoirs Of A Music Junkie,” Lenny Kalikow tells the story of his journey from suburban teen trekking to Greenwich Village to sing in clubs in the 1960s to success as a singer-songwriter in the 1970s to longtime music industry executive. The 342-page paperback was written in two parts — the first covering the 1950s and 60s, then the 1970s — as his evolution in music corresponded with what was going on in the news and American culture — it is fascinating.
