Description

Kin, a halfling with aspirations of being a cleric, has been biding his time working at the local inn that’s frequented by adventurers. The short man on staff, he’s the first choice for every dirty job, whether it’s using his cleric powers to scrub chamber pots or hosing down an outhouse covered in dwarf excrement, all while fending off advances from drunken elf women. A fire at the inn and a scream within spur him to heroics. After saving a child from the flames, Kin realizes he’d rather die facing a dragon than live another day scrubbing the literal stains of adventurers off the floor.

He sets out for the Adventurer’s Guild and along the way meets an orc barbarian with paladin powers that he denies, a lucky thief with a stolen bottomless bag, a warlock that got stuck in hell’s phone tree and got an accountant for a patron, and a low charisma bard getting by on nepotism. They head off on a grand quest to rescue children trapped within a sealed mine in a derelict mining town. But the children aren't just trapped by cave-ins and skeletons—they are the collateral damage of a Duke’s greed. Kin and his misfits soon realize that the monsters in the dark are nothing compared to the rent-seeking parasites wearing crowns.

From disparate adventurers, to a trauma-bonded party, to a star-crossed romance with consequences neither of them saw coming, they join a rebellion to overthrow the king and change the very system that governs their lives. In Feastonia, heroes are a luxury the poor can’t afford. But for Kin and his crew of dysfunctional rejects, the only way to save their world is to burn the systems that run it to the ground.

A Note From the Publisher

I am a full member of the SFWA and a mid-40s AuDHD father of three whose midlife crisis was therapy. My writing is heavily influenced by my work volunteering with grieving children and my interest in how neurodivergent people navigate rigid systems. I published my first book in 2013 and found a surprising amount of success with over 1,000 copies sold in the first year, but life hit me like a ton of bricks and I didn't write anything else for over a decade. Now I'm back with a focus on turning writing into a career with no end of stories to tell and characters pouring out of my head.

There will also be a paperback version of this for $16.99.
