Liam Mathers is like any other middle-school soccer-obsessed kid until one bizarre autumn Saturday morning—he isn’t. That is the morning he experiences a hallucination so vivid that it has to be real while at the same time being utterly impossible. As additional hallucinations occur, Liam has to endure his mom’s alarm, the skepticism of his doctors, and panic from his best friend, Jing, while struggling on his own to understand what is happening to him. The situation takes a dramatic turn when a philosopher, physicist, and psychologist stumble upon a theory that challenges their definitions of reality. Should they trust that theory to treat Liam’s hallucinations? Shockingly, it may be Jing’s life that rides on the answer.
