It is a literary novel that uses the machinery of dark romance, not a genre romance with literary decoration. That distinction will decide whether you finish it.

It is: slow. Two characters, one house, almost no external plot. The pressure is psychological and it is carried by dialogue and interiority rather than by incident. Explicit, with intimacy that is plot-bearing rather than decorative — it is where the power changes hands. Structurally a tragedy of recognition.

It is not: fast-paced. Not tropey. Not spicy in the marketing sense of that word. There is no promise of a happy ending, and the central relationship is not safe and is not meant to read as aspirational.

Please do not request this book if you are looking for a comfort read, a high-heat contemporary, a redemption arc, or a guaranteed HEA — you will have a bad time, and I would genuinely rather you spent the hours on something you love.

Please do request it if you read literary fiction and are willing to go somewhere uncomfortable — if you reach for novels where two people in one room do more damage than any plot could, this was written in that direction.
