Description
Miriam Toews meets the Coen Brothers in this raucous “Mennonoir”, a spontaneous outburst of violence and wit from Randy Nikkel Schroeder.
Set in a Mennonite town where surface piety and strict purity codes mask a criminal underworld both organized and petty, Luke Falk must navigate the complex world of shunning, outcasts, and crime as he returns home to the religious enclave of his upbringing. As tension builds, who can say what will happen next.
Advance Praise
"His motive: revenge. Revenge for past trauma. Revenge for being shunned. Revenge for broken and conditional family bonds. Revenge for hypocrisy. Heck, revenge for being Mennonite at all.." —Scott Montgomery, Winnipeg Free Press
"I’ve never read a book like Sinner’s Banquet. Randy Nikkel Schroeder has created a dark (and funny!) romp of a novel that fuses real and imagined Mennonite culture, noir tropes, Shakespearean-style insults and a deep goth sensibility."—Alberta Views
“Unlike anything else out there.”— Mike Resnick, Hugo Award-winning author of Kirinyaga and Santiago
“Schroeder has authored a novel that is undeniably Albertan.”— Vincent Potter, FreeFall Magazine
“Schroeder writes with urgency and grace.”— Mike Thorn, author of Darkest Hours
