Description

Luck of the Draw, an exciting and heartfelt saga of a generation coming of age, has just been published by Castalia. William Scott Morrison’s second novel whisks the reader from the playgrounds of Little League in the conservative Fifties through the Summer of Love and the protests of the radical Sixties and into the jungles of Southeast Asia during last days of the Vietnam war in the decadent Seventies.

It tells the story of a changing America as seen through the eyes of four idealistic boomers looking for love and trying to change the world. Like the millions of others who grew up in the Sixties, theirs are the stories of what it was like to be young and vibrant during those turbulent times of Cold War paranoia, political assassinations, civil rights marches, counter-culture hippies, sexual revolution, women’s liberation, military conscription, anti-war protests, and of course sex and drugs and the all-time greatest rock ‘n’ roll. Luck of the Draw tells it like it was with humor and insight.

Author Bio
William “Scott” Morrison has been chasing the get-rich-quick American Dream for many decades while writing stories and songs on the side. Now in his late youth, he is channeling a lifelong interest in politics and history into telling the story of the times through historical fiction. Luck of the Draw, his second novel, follows the lives of the same characters who in his first novel, The Energy Caper, or Nixon in the Sky with Diamonds, thrive in a luckier world where there was no Vietnam war. He lives quietly with his wife in the wine country of California.

Advance Praise

“Having lived many of the events in Luck of the Draw, I appreciate Scott Morrison’s illuminating those chaotic and confusing times. He’s put each scene into the context of well-researched history. This story of four young Americans reveals the impact of the war in Vietnam on personal lives.”

Marketing Plan

The audience for Luck of the Draw is primarily the generation that came of age in the Sixties as well as their children and grandchildren. By pure coincidence, this also happens to be an election year in which two boomers, Clinton and Trump, are vying for the presidency. The author has designed a graphic NoTrumpZone sign that is being used on things like Don’t Be a TRUMPiE bumperstickers, coffee mugs, buttons and t-shirts. He is also writing songs and blog posts aimed at defeating Donald Trump. The websites and other materials will promote the defeat of Trump while simultaneously promoting the novel.
