Description

Historical romance writer, Lenore Held, AKA, LaSandra Lacy, feeling the need to step into the present century, both personally and professionally, has agreed to co-author a steamy contemporary romance with male author, MP Finnegan.

As sparks begin to fly, on and off the written page, the world around them turns into utter chaos.

Her son’s father, Senator Byron Maxwell, makes an appearance in her life after an almost 22-year absence.

Theirs was the proverbial bad clique of a Washington romance: the gentrified, conservative, womanizing statesman and the beautiful, brilliant but naive, starry eyed intern, who had the bad taste to become pregnant with his child. He pretended they didn’t exist, until now. Now he wants something from her, something that isn’t hers to give.

Add to that a media play gone horribly wrong, a stalker, home invasion, and unhinged family members of the senator’s and Lenore and MP’s life together begins to resemble a book plot. Unlike a book, the turmoil that surrounds them is real and deadly.

She is a best-selling historical romance author writing under a pen name for anonymity, but even successful authors need to take a trip out of their comfort zone to gain a fresh perspective on writing. Little did Lenore know, agreeing to co-author a contemporary and steamy love story with another author that not only would fiction mimic reality, but the quiet cocoon she had built around herself was about to be a thing of the past.

M.P. Finnegan, a steamy romance author is a man, a very sexy, sensuous man with a delectable accent. Between the two of them, not only were they making headway on their writing, but they found their budding real life romance was the perfect muse for their work. What better way to tell if a scene sizzled than by trying it out? What better way to find the person of your dreams than by the hands of fate?

Sounds like they could “write” off into the sunset, except for one major issue. For twenty-two years, her son’s father has wanted nothing to do with them. It would soil his professional and personal life to know that a well-known Senator had fathered a bastard child. When the good Senator Maxwell darkens her doorstep, it is to make demands of her son, the boy he never met. What happens next is a nightmare of epic Washington proportions with the best ending being public scandal, the worst ending, death for more than one person.

Another Notch in the Beltway by L.A. Long is filled with tension, passion and danger as one woman’s past comes back to make life a living hell for both herself and those she is determined to keep safe. From the banter of two authors writing together to the ferocity of a mother determined to protect her child at all costs, L.A. Long has penned a rapid-fire tale and nailed this one like threading the eye of a needle through a web of deceit, vengeance and scandal. Brilliant characters with strong personalities, I either loved them, felt for them or hated them, no gray areas for me. An impressive tale that built momentum with each page, filled with enough romance to cause a few flutters and enough suspense to whiten your knuckles.

I received an ARC edition from AVN Publications in exchange for my honest review.
