Hecht is a graduate of Cornell University and earned a PhD in chemical engineering from Yale. He then spent over thirty-one years with DuPont. After he retired, he held academic appointments at the University of Delaware, Temple University, and the University of Denver. His articles on public affairs have been in over twenty publications, including the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and Washington Post. The differences he has made include decreasing racial discrimination throughout the United States and saving thousands of lives.
