Fascinating book, grabbed me from start to finish!
The content has an excellent selection of relevant scientific information about human evolution, genes, diet adapted to each habitat, climate and continental migrations, aimed at understanding its impact to sustain good health. Good health is the foundation needed to sustain creative states, keen mind, enjoy material experience, build our lives, pursue our goals to achieve happiness.
In general in the book are interesting data on genetic variation and the particular response to drugs, placebos, nurturing treatments, and to different foods like salt, starch, gluten sensitivity, sugar, lactose, among others. It also discusses the importance of staying in motion associated with heart and brain health, skin color evolution and vitamin D, the inverse relationship between body fat and brain size, unsaturated fats in processed food.
It is very interesting how it unites psychology research and the genetic basis of stress, where the power of the mind becomes important when it stimulates real physiological responses, for example for the management of stress and anxiety. Stress is associated with a variety of negative conditions, however the stress genes have ensured the survival of our species for thousands of years.
In conclusion the message of the author is to have balance, to respect the deep interaction of our cells and genes with nature, to maintain a more adequate diet, a healthcare that suits individual gene types, and that life is a biological creation that we can embrace, to fully enjoy our experience and a science that understands our place in the universe.
The book is very well written, attractive and contains useful Key Points at the end of each chapter. In the author's style you can feel his passion, dedication to his research, his conviction and sincere intentions to provide tools for good health. The best thing is that all this scientific information can be landed to solve some problems or insensibilities to medicines, food, etc. since the author makes available a test to detect genes associated to these conditions.
My gratitude to the Publisher and NetGalley for allowing me to review the book
