I quite enjoyed this, although as a normal rule I don't read books about mermaids. However, this kept my attention, and was well written.
I hadn't read the first book, but didn't feel it affected my enjoyment.

Good follow up, I overall enjoyed the continuation of the story.

I usually like these kinds of books but with this one I must admit that i was disappointed, i don't know what i was expecting but whatever it was wasn't what i got when i was reading it, but i would recommend people to at least give this book a chance as that could just be my personal opinion

Still can't believe this started out as a Wattpad novel! Enjoyed it a lot.

Beautiful and magical book. I would love to visit a place like Starfish Island. Thank you so much for letting me read an ARC. I'm going to read the first book and then I will read this book.

Provided by NetGalley for an honest review.

This second part was a little odd. I understand heartache and how it's hard to move on from what you believe is 'the one' but I found all the melodrama around this a little hard to read.
Other than that, the story flowed and I really liked it. Mermen and mermaids are always an interesting read!

“Allow me to get this straight: I didn’t hate the book, but this is just a bunch of clichés altogether.”

Sounds familiar? If the answer is yes, here’s why: that’s exactly how I started writing my review for the first book, A Thousand Salt Kisses.

Apparently, nothing has changed. I found myself reading the book in only a few days, because it really was addictive and I wanted to know what would happen (if anything would improve). Some things definitely improved, okay, but I thought that reading from Crystal’s perspective, now that she was older, would be different (not really). I was disappointed, and here’s why:

- Diversity was included, but I thought it was stereotyped
- Crystal was more childish than ever, still making comments about people’s appearances and then saying that personality is what matters (*sigh*)
- LOVE TRIANGLE – need I say more? (plus, she ended up with the guy I didn’t like anymore)
- The Bad Boy stereotype – not what bothered me the most, but still
- They had a lot of problems, and yet they wouldn’t take the situation seriously. They would party almost every day, drinking a lot and there would be no consequences, passing this message that drinking excessively is okay (???)
- I wasn’t a big fan of the plot twist, and by 50% of the book, I could already predict most things that would happen

I’m pretty sure there are more things I could add to that list, but I didn’t take a lot of notes, so I probably just forgot them..

The good thing is basically the fact that the characters were mainly merpeople in this book, which was AMAZING, because I’ve been wanting to know more about them. There’s not much, but we learned about their kingdoms, fashion, culture (BUT CRYSTAL AND OTHER MERPEOPLE HAD SOME REALLY DISRESPECTFUL ATTITUDE TOWARDS IT AND I CAN’T FORGIVE IT, LIKE CAN SOMEONE TAKE WHAT’S GOING ON SERIOUSLY, please and thank you).

Rough start for this book for me. I was irritated by the simplicity of the language and story line and felt like I was going to hate the book. I plugged on and in the middle of the book I started to somewhat like it. It was an interesting story line that needs some development (better character development/plot/scenery... I had a hard time picturing things because there wasn't a lot of description. I really wish I could have pictured it better because it has so much potential) but overall was pretty good. It's a fast read. What I did really like about it was that it was in no way predictable. There were lots of twists and turns and I was never thinking oh I know what's going to happen next. Overall it was an ok book. Just read it for fun. I received the digital book from netgalley and the publisher for free in exchange for my honest review.

This book is the second instalment.
However I wasn't fortunate enough to read the first book.

This for me made the book less enjoyable as I wasn't able to experience Crystal as a young girl and the Magic she experiences of the Mermaid world in Starfish Island.
I feel I missed out on a huge chunk of the story which led to me being confused in places and a little disappointed.

Crystal returns home now fairly grown up after being away at University.

Crystal is drawn back into the Mer world and back into Llyr's Affections even though he is now in another relationship.
From what I understand from previous reviews Crystal and Merman Llyr was in a relationship which ended in the first book.

I did love the Merfolk their underwater world was fascinating. It was very magical.

However for me the Magic stopped there.
I wasn't able to fully emerge myself into the story and the characters as I missed out on so much of the first book.

If any reader is thinking about reading this magical Mermaid book then It is highly advisable to read the first one as this definitely is not a stand alone book.

When I got the email from NetGalley that there was a second book out and ready for request I was at first really excited since I remembered liking the first book despite some annoying trades/ behavior of Crystal. Now, this books was just. Disappointing. This review contains spoilers since I have a few points concerning the plot that bothered me but I have left a short spoiler free summary in the last paragraph.

Just let list a few of my problems I had with this book:
I'm just going to start with my biggest complaint that really bugged me throughout the whole story. This story had a lot of potentials to be suspenseful and original but ultimately failed because no one took the situation seriously. So we have our prince charming who has been put under a spell that literally took away his free will. The evil king and his daughter could take over the whole region and all everyone is thinking about is whether or not Llyr is going to choose Crystal or not?! I don't know if you all missed the point but he doesn't have the ability to choose anymore! So, that was one thing. The best friend of the king deliberately acted in favor of the evil king just to avoid conflict and Crystal went out partying the whole time and getting drunk with the stereotypical gay brother of her best friend while other people were trying to break the spell. And when they did talk about the spell everything anybody was ever talking about was Crystal and how sorry they were for her and I just didn't get it. The oh so evil mermaids were taking over the whole region and manipulating Llyr and his father and all everyone can think of is Crystals love life?

2. Second of all when they found the I forgot the name of the wise people they asked them to do a ritual to break the spell. Once again no one told Crystal anything so, of course, she jumped to the most ridiculous conclusions and had a completely unnecessary panic attack. And then Crystal was giggling the whole time and was embarrassed by the mask she was supposed to wear. And she thought of everything BUT Llyr and how that would save him and the whole kingdom.

3. I'm just going to talk again about the whole drinking and partying thing because this also bugged me a lot. I get that drinking can be fun. I, personally, do not like alcohol. At all. But I don't really care if my friends drink. Crystal drank every time she went out or felt nervous or angsty. She drank that first day in the Diamond Kingdom even though she had not eaten anything for like 2 days. And she did not experience any effects besides loosening up and relaxing. Since this is a YA book I feel like presenting alcohol as a coping mechanism that doesn't have any negative effects on you could potentially give off the wrong impressions on drinking. But that's just my opinion.
Also, why would you go partying when the love of your life is under a spell that took his free will away, basically making him a slave. How can you just go partying while the others go into the kind of dangerous forest to find these people who can perform the ritual?

4. Talking about the ritual. How come everyone says these people are so powerful and connected to the old roots and then make fun of them and in general not take them seriously at all? At first, it was just Crystal and I was getting really upset because she was so disrespectful towards the merfolk culture. But then some of the side characters started to joke about them as well and Crystal was like stooooop or it won't work giggle giggle. (Crystal giggle quite a lot. And not only in appropriate situations. That was like her default reaction and it already annoyed me in the first book but it's something I can ignore. Usually.)

5. A few minor things left. Jasper. As much as I like that we have gay merman in the story he was so... I don't know how to describe it. But he was described the way a straight girl would imagine him when saying she wants a gay best friend to talk to about boys and fashion. Does that make sense? I mean I'm neither gay nor a guy but it sounded offensive and stereotypical to me. Besides, all Jasper ever talked about were hot gay dudes and that's literally all he talked about. He even could not control himself at the final ball. The ball that would decide whether or not the ritual worked and left Crystal alone to flirt with some dudes (posted there by his father so that Spirit would spend time with Crystal alone and make it look like they were a thing so that Llyr would not say anything and Crystal would just give up and leave. Great huh?) AND THEN!!!! attention major spoilers ahead

6. At last, Crystal gives up on her great love of her life because she can't seem to grasp that he didn't replace her by his own free will but because he was put under a spell she leaves. Llyr follows, thereby breaking up the whole engagement. After a few days of anxious rambling from Crystal, Llyr stops by her house to ask if she still loves him and she's like yes of course but what about your fiancée? And he's like oh yeah we broke it and we fought them all off and everything is good now. You are our hero since you broke the spell and everyone is even more in love with you. And it just made me so frustrated because we never get to see any of the conflicts and Crystal has literally done nothing to break the spell (yeah she killed that snake but they just chose her to do it to make it symbolic and not because it had to be her or because she had to sacrifice any of her comforts to save him. She didn't even help search those people. All she did was mope around, party, and get drunk.) </spoiler>

So, in short, since this is half rant half review, this story was rather disappointing since there was barely any plot and the plot that was happening besides the "romance" was not taken seriously by any of the characters and therefore missed the point of being urgent. All the characters did, was flirt around and think about their love life instead of saving their kingdom from mind-controlling villains who were rather flat characters since all we knew about them was that they are evil.(considering that the merfolk are already a couple hundred years old their behavior was more that of love-sick 16-year-old teenagers). There was also no action and suspense since all the action was left out of the narration because Crystal did not do anything besides drink, party, and pity herself.

I feel like the way the book is written its aimed at teens, but some of the content such as needing to find a ‘mate’ who makes you feel “A little ooh- la- la” and “aroused” suggests the audience is more Young Adult. The Main Character, Crystal is clearly an adult as she has just finished college, and drinks but the writing style painted her as a young teen to me.

The book is short, with likable characters, but you don’t really get to know them too well. The underwater setting was a nice change from the usual faraway lands setting but it felt like it lacked any originality with the usual boy breaks girls heart, she still loves him, will do anything for him routine – with an obvious ending.

I'm sorry but this book is completely unreadable. I love the idea but the execution is just awful. Never have I read a book and visibly cringed at the dialogue and descriptions. I know it's YA but some attempt to write something readable is important.

It’s been years since Crystal broke up with Llyr, but she can’t seem to get over him. Now that she has finished college, Crystal returns home for the first time since high school to find work. Of course she’s curious about Llyr, but she doesn’t want to dredge up the past if he’s over her. But when one of his friends contacts her, she becomes more tangled in his world than ever before. After all, a thousand kisses from a merman has power.

A Thousand Salt Kisses Later provides a satisfying continuation of the first book. Where the first book ends on a sad note, with Crystal and Llyr breaking up out of necessity, this story brings them back together and overcomes the hurdles that separated them in the first place. Magic took up a bigger position in this story, and this time, the main antagonists were merpeople rather than a human corporation. Crystal was able to see a bit more of the mer world, too, which I was ecstatic about. The undersea world was fascinating and developed, with rulers, politics, and fashion. The romance was not what I expected. Llyr wasn’t physically with Crystal for most of the story, allowing Crystal to question his devotion for her and giving her the space to consider other mermen. I wish the relationship between Llyr and Crystal would have been more developed, but the story as a whole was much better than the first book. Considering how little of importance actually happens in the first book, I would almost say that it would have been better to shorten it as a novella or combine it with this second book; some of the details were necessary, but the first book was still lacking something. Also, let me warn anyone who cares that this book had cursing, drinking, and some near-sexual scenes in it.

Overall, I enjoyed A Thousand Salt Kisses Later. I would recommend it to those who enjoy romance and mermaids.

I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

The second novel in this series is just as amazing as the first! In this novel, we dive deeper in the mer world – which I was so excited for! In this novel, Crystal returns to Starfish Island. She is clearly not over her love for Llyr, no matter how hard she keeps trying (and being honest, who can blame her?). This novel takes on a whole new twist that I can honestly say makes me love it even more than the first one.

At times I found myself frustrated and angry with Llyr but as the story evolved my anger switched to those around him that have caused this change. The story takes on a twist that leaves you turning each page to see how Crystal can stop it (I would love to say more but doing so would give it all away). It is up to Crystal though to save all the people she has come to love – her mer friends and lost love and her family. A tough job for a young girl right? But she is definitely up to the task.

A Thousand Salt Kisses Later is a well written and planned out novel, a great addition for young adults and those who love a great adventurous and sweet romance. You are drawn right into the novel and feel like Crystal is one of the girls. You want to protect her, see her happy and keep cheering for her right to the end. I enjoyed every moment of this novel.

"A Thousand Salt Kisses Later' is the sequel of 'A Thousand Salt Kisses' and it tells the story of Crystal White's life four years later than the end of the first part of the book series. Since the end of the first book left us with many questions considering Crystal's future second part of the series finally gives us very anticipated answers. I don't want to spoil the beans, therefore I will just say that the book is worth recommending to every fan of fantasy and romance. Really nice reading material. Enjoy!

Four years after her intense summer romance on Starfish Island with merman Llyr, Crystal White has graduated university in London and is left jobless, homeless and boyfriend-less after her break-up with university boyfriend, Sam. With nowhere else to go, Crystal heads back to Starfish Island. Immediately, her feelings for Llyr resurface, even though she knows that their love is impossible. When an opportunity arises to meet with Llyr, Crystal jumps at the chance. However, when she goes to meet him Crystal not only finds that Llyr is engaged to Princess Kara of the Timsah Kingdom, but that she has found some magic of her own that might upset all of the mer-kingdoms.
After finishing the first book, A Thousand Salt Kisses, I was really left wondering what will happen with Crystal and Llyr in A Thousand Salt Kisses Later. Well, I was not let down. First, I was very happy that this is set four years after the first book; this let Crystal mature a bit and have a relationship that was not with a merman. Also, after four years away, if Crystal and Llyr still have feelings for one another, it is definitely more than a summer romance. I also liked the elements of magic that were introduced, the title is explained, though Crystal’s magic spell is quite a surprise! I also wasn’t quite sure if I liked the way that she had to reverse it. Anyway, I’m very glad that more of the mermaid kingdoms were explored; they all seemed beautiful, as well as mermaid customs and how exactly they clothed themselves, drank, ate and danced. The conflict that was introduced with the Timsah Kingdom was interesting, a little bit a dark magic that still needs to be explored more. Also, it seems that it was resolved a little too easily for now. There was not as much focus on romance in this book, which was alright with me, and there was almost a love triangle, which hopefully is resolved as well. Overall, a nice follow up for this fantasy mermance.

This book was received for free in return for an honest review.
