I love watching JP Sears videos online and was excited to see he wrote a book. Thank you NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read and review the book. I have mixed feelings on the book - it was fun at times and sometimes not so much. I don't think that some of the humor translates as well into book form as it does in his videos. It was worth the read - but isn't something I'd read more than once.

I love JP Sears, and I was really excited to get the chance to read his book. However, I had to give it up about half way through. It was just too repetitive, too over-the-top, too drawn out, too much. I think he just just pass on the writing and stick to what he knows best!

I think he's more fun to watch than to read. You can expect his same sarcastic sense of humor, but without the facial expressions. You really need the facial expressions and acting to go with the material.

I am not very familiar with Mr Sears' humor style, so this could be why I cannot appreciate much of his humor in this book.
However, I did get laughs out of the photos interspersed within the pages - half parody, half satire: this must be how Mr Sears connect with his audience.
I suggest people who have not heard of him to look up for him on social media first before looking at this book; I feel that such humor is better seen and listened to than read. Then, if you consider yourself a fan, do pick up this book. The world is already tired of all the airy-fairy spiritual advice: Mr Sears will definitely make you laugh with his unconventional wisdom, which is what I feel being spiritual should be like!

I love this! It's waaaay to funny and the author really just makes you get out of this ego trap that most spiritual enthusiasts get into.

Anything can be a competition- even spirituality. JP Sears in How to Be Ultra Spiritual tackles everything from meditation to existing in the "soon" in a tongue-in-cheek effort to educate the reader on all spiritual matters. Not for thin-skinned readers, this book uses humor to examine just how ridiculous the whole spiritual thing can be when taken to extremes. Though JP never breaks character, it is clear from the sheer amount of New Age material covered in these pages that if he hasn't been on the retreats, met the gurus, done the shamanistic plant-fueled trips, then he's talked to someone who has. I found the whole thing incredibly funny, but it may not appeal to all seekers.

The you tube videos are better than the book. In the book the author comes across as pompous rather than sarcastic - the humor doesn't transfer well.
