Dear God! This was such a fun and quirky read. The story is about a very boring man - Edsel Bronfman - that finds out he has won two days in a fancy resort through something called "Extraordinary Adventures." The only condition, or main one, is that he brings a significant other to share his trip with.

The characters have crazy names: Edsel Bronfman, Thomas Edison, Crouton... the names might seem too much and a bit too ambitious, but throughout the book you appreciate them more.

It's a crazy story full of cops and mothers with Alzheimer! It's not a love story, even though there is a very strong romantic element. It's just a fun read with short chapters to cheer you up!

It's a solid book that I believe will make for a great summer read! I can totally picture people on the beach reading this.

I definitely recommend this book to all my beach-people out there and will even snag a copy for my friend! But remember to read half the book on your back and the other half on your chest, and don't forget to use sunscreen lotion!

I took this read on a case of mistaken identity. I was thinking the book was by comedic Brit author Danny Wallace who has written some great and very funny stuff. That being said...I think I've found a new great and funny writer in the American Southern author, Wallace. Redeeming, eye-opening, and extremely inventive and empathetic. And I laughed too. Just stumbled upon something great. I'd recommend it!!!

This book hooked me from the start. Poor Edsel Bronfman. Named after a failed car (he says he was named after a family member), raised by a slightly crazy Mum, not sure if he is still a virgin or not at age 34 and completely and totally socially inept.

When Bronfman gets a telemarketer call telling him he has "won" a "vacation" in beautiful Destin, Florida his life is changed. Despite the operator telling him that a) he needs attend a short presentation on time-shares (hah) , b) he needs to bring a partner (wife, girlfriend, husband, boyfriend, whatever) and c) he needs to attend in the next 79 days or his offer will expire... Bronfman is still elated. He's won! He doesn't even really remember entering but he's won!

And thus begins the tale of Edsel attempting to make a connection and find a girlfriend, a real partner he can take with him to beautiful Destin, Florida. The reader is treated to a lovely and quirky cast of characters that all contribute to helping Bronfman finally find out who he actually is and what he wants out of life.

I couldn't finish this. To be honest when I requested it, I had thought it was by the UK humorist Danny Wallace, so my bad there. However it wasn't until about 5% in that I decided this was so unfunny that I Googled to find out whether I'd made a mistake.. This expectation of a comic novel may well have affected my enjoyment, but on the other hand, I was motivated to like this book because I like Danny Wallace's writing, and still disliked the opening of this novel enough to want to give up.
The 34 year old protagonist was so socially inept that he had to ask a colleague how to have a conversation with a woman, and yet he had already managed to attract the flirtatious interest of the only woman he tried this with , a pretty and vivacious receptionist - despite the fact that his only interaction with her consisted of answering her two questions with 'I don't know'. Thrilling.
