I love regency romances. I also love India. I have watched so many Bollywood films I feel like I know quite a bit about India and their culture and their relationship with England. This book's setting was one of the things that made this story apealing. This is a romance, and quite "proper" in its cleanliness but most of the story is really about solving a mystery and seeing how all the people and pieces fit together. There were hints of the ending sprinkled about but there is still a bit of a twist that suprised me. A great addition to the Proper Romance series.

Every once in a while I find a historical romance that gets it right, as far as, language, mannerisms, dress, etc. This author nailed it! I was immediately drawn into the story and couldn't help but swoon for Mr. Anthony.
This story has intrigue, mystery, romance, humor and will keep you turning the page, I honestly could not put it down!
Sophia has decided to go to India to try to heal her broken heart and because the Ton in England reminds her too much of Anthony who left her two years prior with nothing but a letter.
Anthony was ready to ask Sophia's brother if he could officially court Sophia but was called away on an emergency for the Realm to find lost documents. If they fall into the wrong hands everyone close to him (and others) could be in grave danger, so he writes a letter to Sophia and refers to her as a friend or sister.
When Sophia arrives in India the last person she expects to see is the person who broke her heart & confused her emotions with a letter. Unfortunately, as hard as Anthony tried to keep her from danger they all end up in a murder mystery and danger all around.
I know my review probably does not do this book or author justice, but I'm trying to not be a spoiler. Seriously, if you enjoy historical romances, or murder mysteries.... GET this book!!

Anthony Blake is in love with Sophia Elliot. But he's also a spy for the Crown and duty calls. In order to protect the ones he loves, he must lie and cut off all ties. 2 years later, he is once again in contact with heartbroken Sophia, when they meet in India. This just made my heart hurt. He can't tell her he is a spy, but he also does not want her to believe, any longer, the letter he had to write when he left her behind. It is all very complicated. To make matters worse, there is a mystery to solve and Sophia is being threatened.
This book has twists and turns, lost love, engaging characters, culture, and romance all wrapped into one.
