What an absolutely riveting read!! It's Always the Husband centers around 3 women who met in college as roommates and have stayed "friends" for twenty years. This novel starts out with the ladies in present day finding themselves in a very precarious situation (to put it mildly). Throughout the novel Michele Campbell does a great job with going between "now" and "then" to give us the reader the full scope of what lead the women to their present day predicament--wowzer!!!! I thought I had an idea of where Ms. Campbell was taking this novel, but I was completely wrong, I love when an author shocks me!!! This 5 star novel combines women's fiction and mystery/suspense and does it brilliantly!! If you are looking for the perfect beach read than you need to 1-click It's Always the Husband!! Being that this is Michele Campbell's debut novel, I am sincerely looking forward to whatever she comes up with next!!!

Michelle Campbell has written an intriguing tale of friendship, secrets and betrayal. Although her juxtaposition of different socio-economic classes in a small college town is refreshing, her character development is lacking. I had trouble finding a likable character, wishing they would grow up and learn from their mistakes. It's Always the Husband is a suspenseful story that will keep you reading to the disappointing last page. Once completed you may end up raising an eyebrow and pondering, "what was the point?"

Best friends since college, Kate, Jenny and Aubrey have vowed to always be there for each other. But the girls have gown up to be very different women, each one married, but not necessarily happy. When one of them ponders suicide , someone urges her to go ahead and jump. But who encouraged the suicide? And when one of the women ends up dead, who’s really to blame? Is it really the husband, as the police and public seem to believe, or is it one of her most trusted friends in the ultimate betrayal? Visceral and compelling.
