If you visit my blog regularly you’ll have noticed that I love a good Cowboy story. So if there’s a Cowboy on the cover of a book it grabs my attention. So when I saw ‘Outlaw’s Honor’ I was immediately interested. It took me a while to get to this book though.. but since I’m cleaning out my Netgalley list, I was finally able to start reading.
The two main characters in this book where Darby and Mariah. And these characters definitely were fascinating and I found myself wanting to keep reading to find out everything I could about them. Although I didn’t really ‘feel’ there romance as much as I would have liked, their story grabbed my interest and I just wanted to know what would happen next. I was honestly a little surprised to find that the main character wasn’t a Cowboy at all, but it didn’t bother me that much.
This book wasn’t really for me. I didn’t really get the whole romance story between Darby and Mariah, but the suspense surrounding them was interesting enough to make me want to finish the book. In the beginning, right after Darby and Mariah see each other for the first time I really thought this book would be a very fun romance. But I just didn’t feel the chemistry between these characters and I felt disappointed. Something just felt off for me.
The writing in ‘Outlaw’s Honor’ was very descriptive and a little hard to read for me. It just didn’t read easy and I had to work to keep my mind with the book. There were also several different stories going on in this book and I felt like these stories where ‘to’ much for one book. Especially since I still feel like there are a lot of loose ends after reading this book.
Overall, this was not the book for me.

i enjoyed this book. It was heart pounding suspense, funny and romantic.
Darby owns the local bar along with his sister, Mariah is on the run. She pick pokets Darby right off and then she works for him. Read the book to see how they get over all this along with the man that is out to kill Mariah.

I'm generally quite a fan of B.J. Daniels' novels, but after several unsuccessful attempts to read this novel because I just could not get into it, I finally finished reading it last night, and although I kept hoping I'd end up liking it, I'm sorry to say that it simply wasn't the book for me, and I can only give it a 2-star rating.
First, I expected a true western cowboy romance and this wasn't it. The cover photo was misleading. The hero in this novel runs a bar and isn't a cowboy, although the hero and heroine are physically in Montana, she's a gypsy, a thief and a pickpocket, and she's on the run. Nothing about the way she's depicted said "heroine" to me, nor did I find her the least bit admirable.
While there is a family ranch, it doesn't play much of a role in this story, and the subplots and secondary characters, who I'm guessing will appear in later novels in this series, weren't enough to make me enjoy this one. I think that any novel, regardless of author, is hit or miss, and in Ms. Daniels' case, she usually grabs me from the get-go and writes novels that I can't put down. Sadly, if memory serves me correctly, for me, this one was a rare miss.
If you've not read any of B.J. Daniels previous novels, I'd recommend starting with one of her earlier stellar series, such as The Montana Hamiltons or the Cardwell Ranch series, both of which are excellent reads.
I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this novel. The opinions expressed are my own.

Review: Outlaw’s Honor was a quick read that had me turning the pages far into the night. The book was fast paced with a great deal of action and adventure taking place in rural Montana with lots of law enforcement, ranchers, rugged cowboys and strong women who seem to meet their match. I was drawn into the story immediately and loved the vivid descriptions of the lands and the town along with the many storylines going on that were interwoven seamlessly. Mariah is a Romani and has a lot of secrets whereas Darby is more the what you see is what you get type of person. They have instant chemistry but different agendas when they do meet again after their paths unexpectedly crossed at the fair or do they? Watching them take one step forward and two or three back was often heartbreaking as was his brother Flint’s relationship with Maggie due to his crazy ex-wife’s involvement. The Cahills were always there for each other, even their offbeat dad at times, but Darby and his twin, Lillie, could almost read each other’s minds.
There was a lot of violence, break-ins and several mysteries to solve along with danger, fear, anger, hurt, injuries, sadness, disbelief, mistrust, tears, laughter, happiness, loving and love. The characters were well-developed and there was a nice flow to the story. Harper, the sheriff’s deputy, was a hard person to like and I wasn’t thrilled with the way he led the young waitress, Vicki, on even though she seemed to know what she was doing and welcomed his attention. There were several happily-ever-afters in the offing but several that didn’t come to fruition. There was nice closure with enough loose ends to lead us into the next book about the Cahill Ranch, Cowboy’s Legacy, and I for one can’t wait!
B. J. Daniels is a new to me author only having read Atonement in her Beartooth, Montana series. Guess I have a lot of reading to do and more books to add to my always growing TBR pile!

FINAL DECISION: The series improves as the characters fall into their places. I enjoyed this book as part of the series and I especially loved Darby who is sweet and honorable. The story slowly unwinds the motives of the characters and I enjoyed the journey.
THE STORY: Darby Cahill has a quiet life running the bar he and his twin sister own in a small town in Montana. While attending a fair, he sees a woman who shakes his foundations. Ironically, that same woman tries to pickpocket him later. He is even more shocked when that woman, Mariah Ayres arrives at his bar asking for a job. He hires her while the two dance around what actually happened and what Mariah's motives are. Darby becomes more concerned when he discovers that Darby is running and is in danger.
OPINION: This is a slowly developing romance that is combined with a suspense story. The story unfolds as the characters motives become known. The way that Daniels structures this series there is development on various storylines (upcoming romances and overarching mysteries). A lot happens in this book on various levels.
I enjoyed the mystery in this one and the continuing storyline of the series. My favorite part of this story is Darby who is simply adorable as a hero. He is a good man who falls for Mariah instantly -- love at first sight -- and despite all the circumstances, Darby cannot help but do everything he can for Mariah.
Mariah's story is complex and only revealed later in the book. I won't disclose her story here because part of the development of the story is the questioning of her motives. The romance here is sweet and most of the drama of the series is from the mystery and the external danger.
This book advances the overarching story in the series and I can't wait to find out more.
WORTH MENTIONING: The story about Darby's brother is the one I have been waiting for. More happens here for those who have been following the story.
CONNECTED BOOKS: OUTLAW'S HONOR is the second book in the Cahill Ranch series. While the story here is independent as to the romance, there is an overarching storyline mystery that continues from the first book. It's better to read this series as a whole because there are unanswered questions after this book as well.
STAR RATING: I give this book 4 stars.
NOTE: I received an ARC of this book via Netgalley in order to provide a review. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions contained herein are my own.

He was looking at the most exciting woman he’d ever met.
In Outlaw’s Honor, B. J. Daniels takes readers back to Gilt Edge, Montana for the second intriguing installment in her Cahill Ranch western family drama series. Before I continue, I have to mention the panoramically breath-taking setting for these books. The wide-open vistas with the looming mountain peaks are infused with beauty and precariousness and B.J. transports you there as she paints the scenes.
Outlaw’s Honor can work as a standalone read if you insist. The romantic relationship and the development of the dominant danger plot is fully contained within this novel. However, your enjoyment will be exponentially increased if you read this series in order as there are many secondary plots that were set up in Renegade’s Pride and that will advance in each successive book.
This series follows the fascinating Cahill family. There’s Ely, the family’s reclusive patriarch, who spends much of his time in the mountains panning for gold and is famous for his claim of being abducted by aliens in 1967. Ely has five children. The oldest brother, Tucker, left home shortly after his high school graduation. The next brother, Flint, is the town’s sheriff. Two more brothers, Cyrus and Hawk, run the Cahill Ranch. Finally, twins Lillian and Darby own and run the Stagecoach Saloon, a pub/café which is housed in an historical old building restored from an original stagecoach stop. Lillian’s story was told in the first book. In the second book, we move on to Darby.
While reluctantly doing a promotion at Gilt Edge’s famous Chokecherry Festival, a beautiful female thief tries to lift Darby’s wallet, and, in the process, leaves behind a valuable Roma bracelet. When the mystery woman shows up the next day at the Stagecoach Saloon seeking a job, Darby discovers her name, Mariah, and he hires her. Whether this is a smart decision will be determined.
Darby and Mariah are both genuine, likable characters and their game of cat and mouse is engrossing to say the least. You should know that their romance is light – nothing steamy – but it is absolutely perfect for this tale. Besides the primary characters, catching up with Lillian and Trask from the first book is a treat AND Flint’s and Maggie’s story is obviously heading into rough waters. I’m very glad we don’t have to wait long to read their tale.
Following please find a few of my favorite quotes from Outlaw’s Honor:
He couldn’t jeopardize the saloon because of some silly infatuation with an outlaw. Even one as beautiful as Mariah Ayers.
---
She didn’t need anyone to tell her he was all wrong for her and yet…
---
He envied her, sensing that she lived each day as if it was her last.
---
The motorcycle’s headlights cut through the darkness. Ahead the road was nothing but a black hole. She roared toward it.
Outlaw’s Honor includes an exciting sneak preview of Dark Horse, the first book in a new series from BJ Daniels: Whitehorse, Montana: The McGraw Kidnapping. After reading the preview, I’m excited to read it! Dark Horse will release in August 2017. Here’s a short snippet from the preview.
“Remember what I told you about family secrets.” People will kill to keep them, she thought now as she looked at Marianne McGraw. The woman’s rocking didn’t change as Nikki stepped deeper into the room….
I know when I pick up a book by B.J. Daniels that I’m in for fast-paced, heart-pounding read. Outlaw’s Honor didn’t disappoint. B.J. is ultra-skilled at seamlessly pulling off a web of plots and I’m seriously addicted to her books. I actually enjoyed Outlaw’s Honor more than the first book since it wasn’t burdened with introducing the many Cahills and setting up the multiple plot lines. Outlaw’s Honor is a solid mystery/romance with plenty of angst, danger and action to keep readers turning the pages. Seriously, you cannot go wrong with any of B.J.’s books.
Cowboy’s Legacy, the next book in this series, is expected to be released in Nov 2017! It will feature the story of Sheriff Flint Cahill and Maggie. His crazy ex-wife has been causing trouble since the first book. Maggie has now gone missing with a winter storm bearing down. Can Flint find Maggie before it’s too late? I can’t wait to see how Flint’s and Maggie’s story evolves.
Suggested Reading Order:
Renegade’s Pride (Book #1)
Outlaw’s Honor (Book #2)
Cowboy’s Legacy (Book #3) – coming Nov 2017!

One author I can always depend on to write a book I won't be disappointed in is B.J. Daniels. Set in a small Montana town, B.J. has written a intricate story of suspense and romance centered around the Cahill family. She skillfully blends several story lines and the problems the family has with their father is an arc over the series.
During a promotion for the Stagecoach Saloon at the Chokecherry Festival Darby Cahill comes face to face with his destiny, then she disappears after trying to lift his wallet. Mysterious and exhilarating, the woman left a piece of herself behind. A valuable Roma bracelet. When the mystery woman shows up at the bar the next day asking for a job, Darby doesn't know if this is good or bad. He hires her knowing she is only there to retrieve her bracelet and then, Poof! she'll be gone.
Mariah only wants her grandmother's bracelet back. At least that is the story her mind is going with. Her heart is another matter. She is attracted to Darby in a way she never has been to another man. She knows that she can't stay, if she is found it will not be good, but she just can't bring herself to leave. If her vengeful Roma husband finds them, he will probably kill them both. That is something she can't let happen.

Darby Cahill and Mariah Ayres should not be a match but turns out they are. Mariah is on the run. That is the danger in Outlaw's Honor. Darby decides to help her face that danger. None of that happens overnight. Theirs is a romance that has more than the usual number of problems. Daniels has a theme where she features other couples whose romance spans several books in a series. This time it is Flint and Maggie and there is plenty of danger and tension that needs to be resolved before they have their HEA. A nice addition to the Cahill Ranch series. There are still other Cahill brothers who need to find romance so I have additional books to look forward to.

OUTLAW’S HONOR – B.J. Daniels
A Cahill Ranch Novel, Book 2
HQN
ISBN: 978-0373801985
June 2017
Contemporary Romance
Gild Edge, Montana – Present Day
Darby Cahill is working at a street fair when he spots a beautiful woman who catches his attention. Later, the same woman attempts to steal his wallet, but he manages to grab her bracelet as she flees. Darby figures she’ll likely be looking for the bracelet and is not surprised when she shows up at the bar he runs with his twin sister. Darby knows Mariah Ayers is likely trouble, but he’s willing to hire her so that he can get some answers, namely why she is a thief. Right from the start, he senses Mariah is running away from something—or someone, but is she as innocent as she seems?
Mariah is indeed on the run…from her husband, the man her family set her up with in an arranged marriage when she was young. She ran out on him after he brutally tried to rape her on their wedding night, and she knows if he finds her, not only will he complete the task, but kill her. Mariah doesn’t want Darby to get involved in her problems, but she’s soon falling for the sexy cowboy. He’s honest and trustworthy, which leads her to finally confess about her past. Darby vows to protect Mariah, but will it be enough?
In OUTLAW’S HONOR, there are several storylines going on besides that of Darby and Mariah’s. There is the continuing one of Maggie and Flint (Darby’s sheriff brother); they love one another, but his ex seems bent on keeping them apart. Meanwhile, Gilt Edge has a burglary problem, and Flint is suspicious of a group who may be responsible. Flint’s deputy, Harp, is angry that he isn’t the sheriff and can’t wait to prove he deserves that job. When danger calls, will Harp rise to the occasion?
It’s a return to Montana and the Cahill family for readers of B.J. Daniel’s latest, OUTLAW’S HONOR. Darby has never been serious about a woman, but when Mariah walks into his life, he’s instantaneously hooked, even though she appears to be thief. He tells himself he’s doing it to keep an eye on her and to get an explanation of her behavior. Yeah, he keeps telling himself this…
Mariah is a member of a Roma (Gypsy) band that is old-fashioned in their beliefs, which include arranged marriages. She valiantly tried to make herself undesirable to her intended, but it didn’t work, and she was finally kidnapped and dragged to the altar. On their wedding night, his malevolent behavior showed its true colors and she ran. Mariah is truly scared, because she knows what will happen when he finds her. Darby intrigues her, but she can’t let herself get involved with a man because it could only end unhappily…or both of them dead.
OUTLAW’S HONOR will pull in readers right from the start as they try to figure out what Mariah is up to, but as the danger draws closer, it becomes an on-the-edge of-your-seats tale. Darby is her knight in shining armor, but before it all comes to an end, things will take a dramatic twist and turn one dark and stormy night. That night, there’s a lot going on, with just about every plotline coming to a satisfactory and intriguing ending. One that doesn’t get finished: Flint’s romance with Maggie. That appears to be the next book in the Cahill Ranch series, coming in December 2017 called COWBOY’S LEGACY.
A suspenseful and romantic tale that I highly recommend, grab a copy of OUTLAW’S HONOR.

I am enjoying getting to know the Cahill family in this series. Gilt Edge Montana sounds like a wonderful place to call home. This series has intrigue, suspense and plenty of romance. Everything I enjoy in a book. Looking forward to the next installment.

B.J. Daniels is one of my favorite authors and she didn’t disappoint with this one! I love strong characters with a heart and she delivered on both with Mariah & Darby. Add in a good old fashioned romance & mystery of what is going on with Mariah and why she is so scared, and you have a recipe for success! This is a must read!

another great read by B J Daniels. This book is part of a series and I have loved them all. wonderful characters and setting

Found the storyline lacking in depth. Too trite for my interests. The author appears to have written this story without much thought.

I've immensely enjoyed my time spent in Gilt Edge, Montana with Cahill family in this second installment Outlaw's Honor. An interesting group of siblings who find themselves in spots of trouble thanks to their love interests. B.J. Daniels style of story telling in this contemporary western family drama series is exciting and interesting. This hails as the second book of the series and stars Darby Cahill and love interest Mariah.
Darby and Mariah come from two completely different backgrounds. What I love about Daniels style also is her inclusion of interesting history within her stories. Mariah's background comes as one such bright spot and how she ends up in Gilt Edge faced by Darby is alluring and dangerous. Darby who's been restless with life up until this point finds major points of interest with Mariah. He's struck by the sight of her and begins a dangerous game of cat and mouse. Both of them up to the challenge leads to a companionship of sharing and trust. I enjoyed watching them play their story out in this small western town. Their story was much different than that of Lillie and Trask's in book one but the same as far as compassion and love. The steam factor in these is very light but perfect for the structure of the story. And just like book one, Renegade's Pride, constructed into the story are the tales of secondary characters as well. There's a lot players in Gilt Edge and we follow along with them as the centralized love story plays out. It's an immersive kind of reading I truly enjoy especially in a series.
For someone who hasn't delved to far into contemporary western romances the Cahill Ranch series has drawn me in fully. I'm invested in the story telling of B.J. Daniels and the secondary stories that popped up here in Outlaw's Honor. I want to know the story of every Cahill sibling and see how their lives play out so needless to say I'm looking forward to the rest of the series very much. A huge bonus addition to my romance reading repertoire. Reading more stories that are family drama driven in small towns is on my to-do list. Hoping the Cahill Ranch series will lead me to many other new-to-me series from this author and others.
