I have read several of the Dear Dragon series to the kids and they love them. The artwork is great but they also teach lessons. In this book it about feeling happy. A boy and his Dragon toy find a kitten which Mother lets them keep, this makes them happy, then they go to the park and get to play baseball and make new friends, which also makes them happy, then they go home and have dinner and family time, another reason to be happy. These books are also great for beginning readers. The book is not so much in story form they are short with easy words.

I like that the Dear Dragon series is exploring feelings now. It’s an excellent idea.

The Dear Dragon series is made up of several books that are easy readers. They use site vocabulary that is printed in the back of the book. This book is written with 85 words that are printed in the back. It reminds me of the books I learned to read with.

In this book, the boy and his dragon have a wonderful day with many things making them feel happy. It starts with them getting a kitten from a farm, making new friends at the park, learning a new game (baseball) and finally getting together with his family for a wonderful dinner. All things that make the boy and his dragon happy. All this is told in simple, repetitive, easy vocabulary. These Beginning-to-Read books capture the imaginations of beginning readers and help them on their way to independent reading. They could also be read aloud to young children who are not able to read yet. The back of the book has several suggested activities that can be used for reading reinforcement. A great addition to a family library or a primary classroom.
