I've never read anything from this author before, so I was curious to read this sort-of dystopian book.
It takes place in the near future. There's no year specified, but it's not too far off. At one point, the main character mentions he has a 2015 truck and he's been driving it for 10 years. So assuming it was purchased new, we're looking at around 2025 for the setting. In this world, ISIS has expanded and become a very organized force called Jihadis. China has taken over much of Asia, and the US is slowly becoming less of a world power and Americans are feeling more bleak. Jihadis regularly attack in America itself and the people (and government) are becoming desperate with lots of worry about the future.

Sheriff Rick lives in a tiny town called Resurrection. The name is ironic, since the town is basically dying. There was a large mine that provided jobs, but that closed down years ago. But Rick finds the mine now has an electrified fence around it. The government has started new research there. But of course, it's not all as it seems.

The book started quite slowly, but the action did build up later. I don't think the technological advancements mentioned in the book are likely to happen in 10 years from now. For example, Rick has a prosthetic hand that works very much like a real one since there's tech that allows it to directly interface with his brain. That's great, but not likely to happen in 10 years. And he mentions astronauts that landed on Mars. Again, that's not going to happen in just 10 years. There's also other biomedical tech stuff, but it's too much of a spoiler to tell about here. Still, the overall story was compelling and I liked the main female character, Cassie. The ending leaves room for a sequel, so it seems there will be more to come.

Apologies. I wanted to read this to compare it to the works of Tal Bauer, but unfortunately, this was not a compelling read. Thank you for allowing me to try it.

Set in the small town of Resurrection, that has been left a shell after the local mine closed, is set to find out a lot worse can happen!! Good book that follows Rick Johnson, retired marine suffering with PTSD, trying to save his town from Hank Keefer, who is set to remap the world!! It moves at a nice pace, telling the story from both Rick's and Hank's point of view. Both leading characters are well written and the final chapter shows, if you stop the bad guy, it doesn't mean it will be a happy ending!!!

This was a tense and exciting thriller. The characters were very interesting; I would not have minded learning more about them. I was especially intrigued to find out the main, overarching plot point - ie, the reason why all these things were happening in Resurrection. The denouement was great. Everything was seemingly tied up satisfactorily - or was it? I give props to the author for the ending - not every story has to let the good guys win!

I recommend this for fans of James Rollins and Grieg Beck.

Wow, just Wow. This is one of the scariest books that I've read. Resurrection America is written by author Jeff Gunhus. This is a fast-paced sci-fi thriller with many twists and turns in the plot. Thanks to NetGalley and Seven Guns Press for the advance copy. It's been a pleasure. It would make a wonderful movie.

Scary possibility of the near future

This is the first book I've read by author Jeff Gunhus and I thoroughly enjoyed it, reading it in less than one day.

The protagonist of the story is Sheriff Rick Johnson of fictional small town Resurrection, Colorado. He is a Marine vet who lost a hand in one of the wars he's fought in and suffers from PTSD. So far small town life has been to his liking. He has a girlfriend with a young son and not much happens in Resurrection, which suits him just fine.

But events start spiraling out of his control right during the annual Fall Festival and things will never be the same.

The U.S. has taken some drastic hits in the past few years and is losing its battle to remain a world superpower and there are forces in play that want to remedy that..

I loved the storyline, the characters (both good guys and bad), the pacing of the story, and I appreciated the ending.

I received this book from Seven Guns Press through Net Galley in exchange for my unbiased review.
