Everything Matt Kindt does is awesome, and this book is no exception. I'm a interested in seeing how the new Valiant leadership takes the comics brand.

This book was a cool take on an alternate history (Soviet Union take over Europe) and what some are willing to do to set things right. There’s a lot of fun here, fantasy, space, spy’s that makes you want to plough right through it. The small details seen throughout the artwork are awesome and add to the overall story.

When you read Divinity III: Stalinverse, you are entering the conclusion of the tale. The tale is set in a world where Stalin assassinated in the 1920's, and lead Russia to dominated the world by the present day. But a few folks remember how the world should be and are determined to bring it back. But that requires Divinity to act and be able to defeat the other superbeing who has brought to life the present system. Will that happen? Read and find out.

'Divinity III: Stalinverse' by Matt Kindt with art by Trevor Hairsine is a cool take on an alternate history and what some are willing to do to set things right.

If you're new to this series, this isn't the best place to start. A powerful godlike being has messed up history. What has now happened is that during World War II, Russia took over Europe. It's now 2017 and the Americas have been Soviet colonies since 1995. A man named Colin King suspects that this is not the way things are supposed to be. He visits a man named Abram Adams who may be able to help set things right. The only problem is that Abram is in a psychiatric hospital.

The art is just great. I loved the way this book looked. The covers are some of the best I've seen. This is a 4 issue story arc, and it builds really nicely, but the ending felt like a bit of a let down. I am giving this 4 stars for a mostly good story and all good art.

I received a review copy of this graphic novel from Valiant Entertainment, Diamond Book Distributors, and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this graphic novel.

One of the godlike cosmonauts from the previous Divinity series has changed time so that the Soviets take over the world after WWI. Now the only two people who remember the old universe must convince Abram Adams to help revert history.

This was pretty great. I wish Valiant would abandon its 4 act structure for some of their event books. 6 issues would have given us more time to explore the Stalinverse. But overall a great series.

This takes place in an alternate reality where the Soviet Union invaded and took over all of Europe in WW2. Funnily enough, they placed McCarthy as their puppet US president. Now there’s plenty of protests, so the Soviets send one mean-looking dude to put them down, while around the world other agents show how they fight against rebellions.
There’s double agents, fantasy elements, humans on Mars. One of the bad squad is named Baba Yaga, so there’s some humor here. But the cliffhanger at the end of issue #3. . .
For what started out as a promising plot to have such a. . . pedestrian ending dropped my enjoyment a notch.

This graphic novel was so different to anything I've ever read before! Russia... Stalin... futuristic... Bring it on! It was such an amazing read and I can't wait until it comes out so that I can have the physical copy! I need it in my life! The only thing that let it down (and this is only a little thing!) ... the dialogue sometimes fell a little bit flat for me. But that was only a handful of times, so don't let it put you off buying it! Genius!

Snide and churlish me says this is the frustration of a comic book creator who came to the game too late to put Superman in the Soviet Union, as Red Son (I think it was called) did. Appropriate reviewer me says this is a muddle, but probably only because I have no idea what the other books in the series/universe involve. Certainly it's connected to other franchises the author has running, so it's definitely not self-contained.

If I recall, this may be my first experience with Valiant Comics; it certainly is my first experience reading their Divinity series. While this particular issue may require a bit of prior knowledge, you still get enough information in the narrative to get what is happening and enjoy the story.

From the book's description:

"Earth has a new god. The world you know is gone. Welcome to the Stalinverse, comrade.

Welcome to the year 2017…where the Soviet Union has spent decades as the world’s reigning superpower and the Iron Curtain now encircles a planet riddled with war, strife, and oppression. Freedom is a thing of the past in the Stalinverse… So why can’t Russian intelligence officer Colin King shake the feeling that something has gone terribly wrong? He’ll put his freedom and life on the line to uncover the truth… Even if that means finding out whatever happened to the long-missing cosmonaut Abram Adams – the one man who just might hold the key to unraveling the dystopian world of today."

The world is now ruled by a very strong and very much alive Soviet Union. Now that they rule the world, they are setting their eyes on the stars to spread the glory of Mother Russia. Colin King is a loyal intelligence officer with access to high places, but he knows something is not right about this timeline, and he works to gradually make others aware as well. You will have to read to find out how things got to this point and how things turn out.

I can say that this is a good story, entertaining and intriguing. If you enjoy alternative history, you will get a good dose of it here. If you enjoy plots and intrigue, you will get some of that here as well. And if you enjoy action and super powered beings fighting out for the fate of the world, you get that here too. The series offers a lot to readers. I found the pacing good, and once I started it, I just kept on going wanting to learn more. The art is pretty good overall too. As I mentioned, I was not very familiar with this series, but it was a pleasant discovery, and I look forward to reading more titles.

What would the world be like if the Soviet Union had won? Not just the Cold War, but if they were successful going back to the end of WWI, it might look something like this book. It reimagines the Valiant universe in a Soviet dominated Earth.

To begin with, this isn't particularly friendly to new readers. It does give some background on the Divinity storyline, which has the most impact on this one of the other Valiant books. They fail to introduce most of the characters though. For someone already familiar with them, this book was perfectly fine. Others might find it off putting or hard to follow.

I love what they do with the traditional Valiant heroes, both in terms of characterization and art. The groundwork for the conflict was laid out in the previous Divinity books, so it is satisfying to see what happened to the third cosmonaut. The art is great. It captures the setting perfectly. Divinity III is a blast to read.

Incredibly intriguing , sort of reminded me of the russian film Guardians (Russian Avengers) but with a lot more background. I'm interested to know more about where their powers came from though!

In a world gone wrong Putin controls everything and every one.

The history of the world has been re-written and those who resist are put down.

Even the super heroes are heroes no more and exist to serve the global despot but there are seeds of hope. Russian intelligence officer Colin King is one of the most trusted intelligence officers in the world, but as he seeks those who resist the state he secretly seeks those who can save the state and this means restoring the mind of Abram Adams, the one man who has the power and the ability to restore the world to its rightful state and bring back freedom and life.

But the odds are against Colin because the minds of the superheroes serve the will of Stalinverse and only stronger powers can free the world from Putin's poisonous grip.

This is another great story from the Valiant universe with good art, a great storyline, imagination and the kind of creativity that we all enjoy from Valiant.

I particularly enjoyed the way the story depicts Putin and the alternative history. What a nightmare dystopian world! A top quality story for all those fans of Valiant and fans of the Divinity story line. Another great comic to add to the collection.
