Thank you to the author, J.T. Ellison, MIRA/Harlequin, and NetGalley for an advanced reader copy of Lie to Me. I rated this book 5+ stars.

If you love mysteries and psychological thrillers, Lie to Me is the book for you. Lie to Me has been touted as the next "Gone Girl," and that it certainly is. It's not as chilling as Gone Girl, but it is a page turner that will keep you guessing right until the very end!

Sutton and Ethan have everything, or so it seems. They have the perfect marriage, the most beautiful renovated Victorian house, and successful writing careers that are the envy of every author. Under the surface, however, their lives are anything but perfect.

The author takes us beyond the veneer of Sutton and Ethan's extravagant life, exposing their selfishness and narcissism. Sutton is not only an amazing writer but a beautiful woman who is the envy of men and women alike. She is cold, calculating, and uses people to fulfill her needs. Ethan is equal parts handsome and eloquent; he is smart, witty, and a playboy. He ignores Sutton's needs, and Sutton ignores his. Instead, they both privilege their own needs and feelings. Their past year has been absolutely miserable, marked by affairs, misdeeds, and, sadly, the loss of their one and only child due to what appears to be SIDS.

When Sutton goes missing, Ethan becomes a suspect. Ethan and Sutton's troubled lives are exposed to the press, and soon Ethan begins to question if he ever truly knew Sutton at all.

I loved the twists and turns of this novel. The plot was cleverly and thoughtfully imagined by Ellison, and the characters, as insufferable as they were, were entertaining and multi-dimensional. The only minor complaint I have is that the ending seemed too tidy, especially for two characters whose lives were dragged through the mud in a very public fashion. Otherwise, this is an excellent read that any fan of psychological thrillers NEEDS to read!

I've read all of JT Ellison's books. And while i really enjoy her series, this has become my favorite.
For just a bit of the book, I thought it was going to be a copy of the unreliable narrator books that seem to be all the rage these days, but it's not. There are 3 narrators and they are all telling the truth.
Sutton, the wife, takes off leaving a note. She's not the most stable person in the world and her husband, Ethan, doesn't know whether to me mad or worried. We don't know either until halfway thru when we meet up with Sutton.
This book is a page turner and I stayed up late to finish it. Excellent book.

This is one of the most gripping novels I have read in a long time. While it did have the Gone Girl vibe to it, it stands out in so many more ways and I became addicted because of it. This is the type of mystery novel that will leave readers gasping for air and turning the pages faster then they can read. It's a must have novel and I can see it being in the top 10 greatest books of the year.

For once, the comparison to Gone Girl is justified. I ended liking the ending to this one more!

This is a crazy, twisted story. The first half is completely captivating. The first part of Sutton's story is a bit confusing, you aren't really sure how it all fits in. But aha! It all comes together. And then it doesnt. And then, it does.

I truly found myself thinking "Gone Girl" for a lot of this book. In a lot of ways, this has the same caliber storyline. There are twists upon twists upon twists.

I really liked the chapter titles, and the Now and Then flashbacks. J.T. Ellison has a fantastic writing style, and I will be looking for more of her work!

What a great spring for amazing books! I wish I had more time in my days to read. Here’s what is on my radar right now…

I am getting a lot of requests for thrillers or mysteries. People want books like Gone Girl, Luckiest Girl Alive, The Girl on the Train, Behind Closed Doors. Remember when people were going crazy over chick-lit? Now we can’t get enough of page turners.

This book, Lie To Me by J.T. Ellison, looks so good because its easy to see from the synopsis below how a bad marriage can spiral into something dark and nasty.

Synopsis:

Sutton and Ethan Montclair’s idyllic life is not as it appears. They seem made for each other, but the truth is ugly. Consumed by professional and personal betrayals and financial woes, the two both love and hate each other. As tensions mount, Sutton disappears, leaving behind a note saying not to look for her.

Ethan finds himself the target of vicious gossip as friends, family and the media speculate on what really happened to Sutton Montclair. As the police investigate, the lies the couple have been spinning for years quickly unravel. Is Ethan a killer? Is he being set up? Did Sutton hate him enough to kill the child she never wanted and then herself? The path to the answers is full of twists that will leave the reader breathless.

Sorry, but I really did not like the story line. Very convoluted and at times I was confused as to what was really going on. This is not the type of book that I expect from J T Ellison. I was left with a lot of questions at the end.

J.T. Ellison has done it again!! This thriller will have you captivated from start to finish!!

The Montclair's once seemed to have everything!! Ethan and Sutton are both authors that met at a social function for the publishing house they were signed with. From the first moment Ethan laid eyes on Sutton, he was completely enamored! The two seemed to click perfectly and ultimately made it official and got married. Eventually several deceptions caused fissures in their marriage, but then a horrible tragedy created cracks that left the couple broken. Out of the blue, Ethan finds a handwritten on the kitchen counter from Sutton saying she's left him because she's been unhappy and not to look for her. The note itself Ethan feels is very out of character for Sutton, so Ethan frantically searches his house for any clue as to where his wife could be, he finds her purse and cell phone!! Things just aren't adding up!! Where is Sutton??? Did she leave willingly?? If she did leave willing why wouldn't she have brought her purse and cell phone?? Did Ethan have something to do with her disappearance?? What do her friends know??

In true J.T. Ellison fashion I was left guessing until the very end!! Goodness, she always creates a fantastic storyline that is timed PERFECTLY!! I was truly grasping at straws when it came to my own conspiracy theories on what was going on, but I will say I was wrong. There was no way I could have ever figured out the who, what, where and how!!!!! Ms. Ellison writes the novel alternating between "now" and "then" which worked perfectly with the plot--love that!! Lie to Me is a 5 star novel that's a MUST read for everyone!!

Ethan and Sutton Montclair seem to have it all. They are both writers, they make good money, have a beautiful home, and they love each other. Or so it seems ...

The truth is something entirely different. Ethan had a one night affair, a night he doesn't remember but someone has a picture. They had a child, a little boy, who died of SIDS. They blame each other for his death.

They have a life built almost entirely on lies.

One morning Ethan comes downstairs, expecting to see his wife fixing breakfast ... but she isn't there. She left a note ... don't try to find me. But then Ethan discovers that his wife left with absolutely nothing .. not her purse, not her phone, not her laptop.

Once the police get involved, Ethan becomes the number one suspect and all of Sutton's friends and even her own mother, think he had something to do with her disappearance.

And then a body is found.

I have read several of this author's books. I can genuinely say that this book has elevated her writing several levels. This is an extremely well written psychological thriller.

Ethan tells his side of the story ... but it doesn't match what Sutton has told her friends. Who has lied? And why? There is also a third voice in the mix .... who is this person?

The characters are very cleverly written... and not all of them are anyone I would personally like to know. Ethan is a bit controlling, wanting everything his way. He wants a child and he doesn't care if Sutton wants one or not. He switches out her birth control pills and she becomes pregnant. He's rather proud of that. Sutton confuses me at times. She is not without issues, but she's very secretive about her childhood.

Sutton's mother is more interested in her daughter giving her a rather generous stipend every month and doesn't seem to be too concerned about her daughter's disappearance. Sutton's friends are varied .. and yet which one do you believe?

My favorite character is Holly, the patrol officer who is given the chance to work the case. She's young, she's idealistic, but she's got a real feel for justice. When it comes right down to it, she doesn't think Ethan has done anything to his wife, but the older, more experience boys in blue pooh pooh her thoughts. She's tenacious and she doesn't let them convince her of anything other than what they can prove.

So many twists and turns and surprises await the reader at every corner. I absolutely could not put this one down until the very last last page.

Many thanks to the author / Harlequin (US & Canada) / Netgalley for the digital copy of this psychological suspense. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

Get ready for a wild ride with the twists and turns in this book. A classic unmasking of the facade of a perfect couple. Sutton is such a flawed character that you are engaged and averted at the same time. I would just think I saw a pattern and then it would disappear - loved it!
