Einstein and the Rabbi by Naomi Levy takes us on a journey to restoring our soul and hearing it's call.

There is a blessing that Jews say every morning, that I just learned. I've even been saying it throughout the day as well. I find it beautiful and it takes on new meaning after reading this book. It is called the Modah Ani. It goes as follows:

Modah Ani Lefanyich
Melech Chai Vekayom
Shehechezarta Bi Nishmati
Bechemla
Raba Emunatecha

I offer thanks to You,
living and eternal King,
for You have mercifully restored my soul within me;
Your faithfulness is great.

"restored my soul", for helping me hear and remember my soul. I'm not just being thankful for waking up, I'm being thankful for being able to follow the calling of my soul and hear its voice.

Now, you are probably wondering what this has to do with a book about Einstein and a Rabbi? I'll tell you. The author, Rabbi Naomi Levy, found a quote by Einstein written in a letter to a Rabbi that speaks of the unity of all things, of our oneness. Upon reading this quote she went on a journey to find the soul, as well as the amazing man who wrote the letter to Einstein.

This book takes us through steps to hearing our soul and heeding it's call. Some of them are familiar, like meditation, and prayer. Some, are seen through a new light, like keeping the Sabbath (or simply a day to rest for those who aren't religious). There is also a look at death as percived by the soul and in mystical Jewish tradition. I loved this book. There is so much in it. We are shown the soul through a beautiful perspective and taught wisdom along the way. It speaks to your soul and calls you home. If you are looking for a book that will speak to your soul and remind you how to hear it this is it.

I would like to thank Flaitrion Books and Netgalley for allowing me to review this wonderful book free of charge in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion.
