Marcia Clark is a bad ass! Another great book. Love Samantha Brinkman and her little law crew. This book is a page turner. I loved the story. I always wonder if some of the people and situations Marcia Clark writes about come from her own experiences. If they do, it is really scary to know what is happening all around us. Luckily, hopefully their are real life Sam's out there righting the wrongs.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this before its release date, I have enjoyed all of Ms Clarks books so far, Samantha is a character that has flaws yet her motives are always commendable, in order to understand her I would recommend to start with Blood defense, the first in the series

As a lawyer who writes fiction, I wasn't expecting much from a lawyer who writes fiction. I made a snap judgment (yes, intended) that I would probably get a trial brief with a couple of fictional characters thrown in. Instead, I was very pleasantly surprised to find that Marcia Clark has not only an iron-fisted grip on the criminal justice system, but a great sense of bringing together people, back stories, subplots, and mystery.

Roan is dead. Few are mourning his loss. But only one person is responsible for killing him. Maybe. With a series of twists and turns, Samantha Brinkman must do better than the police at sorting out the whodunnit behind the whodunnit. Told with a style reminiscent of Joe Friday himself, Snap Judgment is a book worth spending the day with, as you meet Brinkman's coworkers, family, and her questionable past. Behind the mystery is a chilling social commentary on both the underworld of California drug lords and the very real threat of public shaming faced by naive college kids. Clark weaves realistic situations into her characters, and leaves the readers not only guessing about the killer right up to the end, but wondering if it could actually happen to them as well?

Kudos to Clark for bringing life right outside the courtroom to life in the Samantha Brinkman series.

What's it's about:
the third installment of Marcia Clark’s bestselling series, attorney Samantha Brinkman’s investigation into a family’s deadly secrets is compromised by a threat from her past.

When the daughter of prominent civil litigator Graham Hutchins is found with her throat slashed, the woman’s spurned ex-boyfriend seems the likely suspect. But only days later, the young man dies in what appears to be a suicide. Or was it? Now authorities are faced with a possible new crime. And their person of interest is Hutchins. After all, avenging the death of his daughter is the perfect reason to kill. If he’s as innocent as he claims, only one lawyer has what it takes to prove it: his friend and colleague Samantha Brinkman.

It’s Sam’s obligation to trust her new client. Yet the deeper she digs on his behalf, the more entangled she becomes in a thicket of family secrets, past betrayals, and multiple motives for murder. To win her case, she’s prepared to bend any law and cross any boundary that stands in her way. Sam has always played by her own rules, and it’s always worked…so far. But this case cuts so deep and so personal that one false move could cost her everything
My thoughts:

Ms. Clark sets a great puzzle before the reader... and each clue/piece looks it might fit, but just doesn't initially. Really keeps the reader engaged and guessing. A great mystery with such wonderful characters... highly recommended!

Another masterfully crafted thriller from Marcia Clark, ripped from the headlines to deliver a believable storyline and relatable characters. This is the third installment in the Samantha Brinkman series, and Clark continues to impress with her skill and knowledge. This book is a little edgier than the previous two, but it is still a fantastic read. Clark slowly builds the plot and ratchets up the tension throughout as Sam methodically works the case. She leaves no stone unturned and no lead undiscovered.

The case itself is high profile and involves a few characters and many factors. Ultimately Sam has to navigate through many twists and turns and brick walls. To make matters worse, the key players involved in this case are battling it out in the public eye before any charges have even been filed. Sam and her colleagues have to scramble to stay ahead of the drama from both sides while investigating the many angles at the same time. This novel is definitely a roller coaster ride.

Although this is the third book in the series, it is not necessarily vital to read the first two books before this one. It would be helpful for character recognition and a familiarity with an alternate plotline that plays out parallel to the main plot, but Clark provides enough back story so that the reader isn't totally lost. Fans of the first two books will be delighted that Sam once again teams with her father, Dale, while working a case off the books. This separate case is truly a matter of life and death, so the tension and uncertainty from it stretches Samantha pretty thin as she tries to juggle both cases. Each chapter provides a new twist to the case, and you'll be guessing what the conclusion is right up until the very end.

I recommend this book to fans of thrillers and mysteries. I received this as a free ARC from Thomas & Mercer on NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Another great legal mystery from Marcia Clark, this novel finds LA defense attorney Samantha Brinkman involved with the case of a murdered USC coed, her father, and her former boyfriend. Was Alicia being stalked? Did her ex post revenge porn on a sleazy website? Can Sam, Michy, and Alex going to exonerate their client? Clark is an exceptional plotter, and the many twists and turns keep the reader guessing throughout. the novel. Highly recommended to anyone who likes an exceptionally well-written thriller.

A young woman sends a text to her boyfriend, breaking everything off with him. Days later, she is found dead with her throat cut. The most likely suspect ... the ex-boyfriend who is known to be controlling and needs anger management classes.

But then several days later, he is also found dead of a suicide. Or was it murder? The cops re-open the case .. this time looking at the woman's' father who had the most reason to want him dead.

Graham Hutchins turns to Samantha Brinkman when it becomes obvious he is the primary person of interest.

Already looking for alternative killers, digging into Hutchins' life, she finds much more than she bargained for. His is a family of secrets and lies and multiple motives for murder.

Samantha may be a lawyer, but she is willing to cross the line when she needs to. But this case is going to be really tricky. To make things even worse, she is confronted by a man from her past ... a man who blackmails Samantha.

Although third in this series, it's just fine as a stand alone. There are some things pointing back to a previous book, but not enough to take away the enjoyment of reading, if you haven't already.

This is a very well written addition to the series. Samantha and her team are realistic characters. I like how all the relationships work ... Samantha and her father, who is a detective. Samantha and her computer guru as her investigator. Samantha and her best friend who runs their office with an iron fist.. and a lot of humor.

I strongly recommend starting at the beginning so as to not miss those little gems that make the stories so much better.

Many thanks to the author / Thomas & Mercer / Netgalley for the advanced digital copy. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
