Although I really enjoyed this book, not a lot really happened during the first half, but it was one crazy ride from there on until the end.

Claire Connolly, a Sensitive, living in New Orleans after a magical battle involved Paranormals from another world, The Beyond, has now taken to hiding after being seen using her illegal magic in the previous book. Her boyfriend Liam Quinn has disappeared after being hit with magic from another Sensitive during the same battle, which has now turned him into a magic wielder too. Magic use and even just having magic is highly illegal in this NOLA and if caught you are sent to Devil's Isle, basically a prison for all Paranormals and those with magic. Claire is doing everything she can to remain free from Devil's Isle.

The first half of the book involves Claire trying to find Liam to warn him about the bounty now on his head for a murder that he could not have committed. Who wants to frame Liam and why? Containment, the Government agency in charge of finding those with magic, is hot on her heels to find him and she must get there before either those agents or the paid bounty hunters find Liam.

Once she does find him, he wants to clear his name and returns to New Orleans, making the whole gang even more at risk, but that's nothing new for Claire and her friends! Following various trails leads them to discover secrets Claire wasn't expecting and the end result causes even more problems for the whole of New Orleans than anyone could have anticipated! I loved the twists and turns we got this time. It was definitely a faster pace in the second half and I could hardly put the book down in this bit!

Even though Claire loves Liam fiercely, there was no way she was going to go crawling back to him. He had his work cut out there to be honest with her about why he had run off and she certainly didn't take his vague excuses at face value. I do love the romance between these two, but it's definitely not to easiest of relationships in this book.

With the ending that we got in this one, I can't wait to read the next book in this series now!

The Hunt is the third book in Chloe Neill’s Devil’s Isle series, and after the cliffhanger ending of The Sight, I was so excited to get to it. This is one of the first Urban Fantasy series where I was on board from the very beginning, and I remember being so excited about that! Unfortunately, this book left me so confused. It was clear from the get-go that this was simply a filler book. Nothing of consequence happens until the very end, and honestly, another 50 or so pages tacked on to the previous book could have gotten us there in a more plot-driven manner.
The most frustrating part of this book for me was Claire. I’m not saying that what Liam did at the end of the last book was a good choice, but it was his choice. But Claire makes such a pest of herself in this book demanding answers she’s not entitled to. She was way too pushy, and the fact that everyone was on ‘her’ side was just too much for me. Especially the people Liam had known for much longer. For me, the chemistry Claire and Liam had in previous books was lost here, and I hope it’s found again in the next book. I also felt like the jokes in this book fell flat and were ill-timed, and it made for a long read. Especially for a book that already felt like filler.
I still liked some of the other characters in this book, especially Gavin, Malachai and Moses. The rapport between them is getting stronger, and I like seeing it build. There are times it still feels uneasy, but it keeps things real. I will say that the most interesting thing about this book is that the further I read, the easier it is to see how both sides of ‘The Veil,’ can be seen as extremists, and I didn’t see that at the beginning. It’s intriguing the way things are evolving.
While The Hunt was a miss for me, I am interested in reading the last book in the series. As it’s titled The Beyond, I’m hoping it takes place behind the veil.

I have actually purchased a copy of this book for myself when it was released. I finally got around to reading it. Chloe Neill never disappoints. Her storytelling is amazing. The pacing and plot were great. Characters were relateable and likeable.

"From the New York Times bestselling author of the Chicagoland Vampires Novels—the hunter becomes the hunted in a New Orleans devastated by a Paranormal war....

When bounty hunter Liam Quinn discovered that Claire Connolly was a Sensitive and infected with magic, he should have turned her in to be locked up in the prison district known as Devil’s Isle. Instead, he helped her learn to control her power and introduced her to an underground group of Paranormals and humans who know the truth about the war and those who fought it.

Now the weight of Liam’s own secrets has forced him into hiding. When a government agent is killed and Claire discovers that Liam is the prime suspect, she races to find him before the government can. But she’ll discover proving his innocence is no simple matter. Their enemies are drawing closer, and time is running out...."

Awesome book. Great one in the series! Great cliffhanger, can't wait for the next one! Great characters and plot, felt like you were there in the bayou.

If you've read the first two you know Claire and Liam went separate ways. If you haven't read them, go read them or you'll be lost. This is a series that builds on each previous book. Claire and Liam, they will be reunited but not for the reason you might expect. Liam has been framed for a murder, in a very personal way. The legal forces are looking for him and anyone who knows him. This has Claire and her crew hustling to find him and associates to warn them. Unfortunately, he has gone off the radar, deep into the swamp. The hunt for the truth, him and his associates leads them into dangerous places. Oh the ending, get those cleats ready because it's a steep cliffhanger.
I really enjoyed this 3rd book, even if it left me hanging off a cliff, again. The pacing was just right even during the semi laid back scenes. The side characters got some page time and almost stole the show, yeh you Moses. I admit to having doubts, it was a slow start the first 50 pages. I was looking at dropping it, but then it clicked on and never dimmed. Liam, who was a complete jerk up to this book,(in my humble opinion) might have upgraded to a bonehead. Claire deserves an award for her patience. Read the book you'll know what I'm talking about. There was magic, science, betrayal, mystery, danger, chasing, humor, and some lusting, a good mix.

Being apart from Liam Quinn has been hard for Claire Connolly, but she's doing her best to cope with the distance he's put between them since he now has his own secret he needs to keep hidden. But when Liam is accused of murder, Claire will do everything in her power to prove his innocence, no matter how hard it is to work alongside him to do just that. Yet, the more they investigate, the more dangerous things begin to come. Will Claire be able to help Liam prove he's innocent, or will time run out for the pair?

This series just keeps getting better and better, and this third book of Ms. Neill's Devil Isle series is the best yet, and has me looking forward to where this author takes readers next. However, with this book, it takes readers on quite the adventure filled with plenty of suspense and action, as Liam and Claire work to prove his innocence, which isn't easy. Will Liam find out who is setting him up to take the fall for the murder? Will he be able to protect Claire from the danger that seems to be drawing closer and closer?

As for the way this story started, it definitely had me hooked and as the story progresses, it becomes exciting in terms of the danger and what Claire and Liam have to do to keep themselves safe. However, I couldn't help but feel sorry for Claire in the beginning, as she's lost a lot in her life. Yet, at least she's given a purpose with Liam in big trouble. Moreover, Claire and Liam are brilliant characters and I love how Claire helps him to deal with the incredible but dangerous power he has that could cost him everything. I also liked how resilient and courageous Claire is when it comes to confronting Liam and standing up to him when he was being difficult. Since things between them are rocky with Liam not trusting himself to be around Claire because he believes it's too dangerous for her. Will they ever be able to get back to the way things were? Will Liam trust Claire to be able to take care of herself when she's around him if his power gets out of hand?

Overall, Ms. Neill has delivered an exceptional read in this book where the chemistry between Liam and Claire is still as strong as ever; and the ending had me on the edge-of-my-seat and worried for the main characters. Will they come out on top against the bad guys? I would recommend The Hunt by Chloe Neill, if you enjoy Science Fiction and/or Fantasy books or books by authors Darynda Jones, Nalini Singh, Keri Arthur and Devon Monk.

OMG I am so sad that I will have to wait for more!!! I’m glad I stuck with this series, books two and three just keep getting better.

I have to admit the first three quarters of this book frustrated me quite a bit. There was this continual pattern of someone asking Claire how she was going to handle Liam's leaving. Or telling her how she should proceed. Rinse repeat. I had hoped that once they were pushed back into proximity with one another it would lessen, but nope, not even a little. Each new person would tell her she needs to make him grovel, or that yes he does love her, just look at the way he looks at you. Etc etc etc. Then even more would call him an idiot in front of her and tell him direct he should grovel, he made a mistake. And on and on. I just felt like I was being hit over the head with the point again and again, and frankly it made this feel more like a YA book instead of an adult. Despite them trying to clear Liam's name the issue of his leaving was really the focus on all sides. And since there was no actual progress in dealing with those actions while they dealt with the romance drama, I was more than a little exasperated. I can't express how many times I wanted to roll my eyes and just say enough already! It's a shame but it really lessened my enjoyment of this book.

However, moving on, the plot itself was very interesting and twisty and there were some pretty big reveals in THE HUNT. I was really impressed with how everything continued to build and the ending. Who-boy, is it a doozy. It definitely feels like one heck of a crossroads and I can't wait to see how the showdown between every side turns out. Remember the enemy of my enemy is sometimes my friend, and it's a hard lesson some will have to learn going forward.

All in all romance drama aside, the characters and the plotline were very enjoyable in this installment, and I'm still a huge fan of this series. Claire and company are fiercely strong characters and this world is truly fantastic. With all of the new possibilities opened up with that killer ending, I can't wait to see what happens next.

As with so many other titles I've been reading, new readers really shouldn't start with this one. 3rd in the series Devil's Isle, Neill has done a nice bit of world building here. I classify this in my head as "not so bad apocalypse'' literature -- something catastrophic happened, but there's still running water, food and power. Neill plays with the themes of made family and leaves it open for a sequel. Well worth reading this series.

I was given a copy of this book by Netgalley for an honest review.

I love this series! The characters and storyline are well-developed. Someone is committing murders and blaming them on Liam. He was nowhere near where the murder was committed, an Claire and the gang must find who did it before Liam is caught. Everyone in the story has each others back and will never let them down. Things ramp up even more by the end of the book. I cannot wait to see what happens in the next book. I love the interaction between the characters. I recommend this book and series to everyone. I give The Hunt (A Devil's Isle Novel) 5/5 stars.

Four stars: This book gets the story back on track. The relationship matures, and things are going in the right direction.

Claire Connolly is still licking her wounds after the last dramatic battle. Things are still uneasy between the Containment Agents and the paranormals. Worse, Claire hasn’t seen or heard from Liam since he fled after the battle. She feels alone and betrayed. Then a big government official is murdered, and Liam is framed for the crime. Claire gathers her friends to track down Liam and warn him before it is too late. How will he respond when he sees her again?
What I Liked:
*I was relieved that this book got the series back on track. I admittedly was not a fan of the second book. I hated the cliffhanger, the turn in the relationship and the backtracking. Thankfully, things move in the right direction with this third installment. The storytelling matures, and things settle out. I was most pleased with his book.
*The relationship between Claire and Liam has been a sticking point for me, especially after what happened in the last book. It takes some time, but things move forward in a positive and hopeful direction. I loved seeing the maturity finally blossom in the romance, and I am hoping things will stay on this path.
*I thought the story line was tighter and more suspenseful this time around. When Claire goes digging to find out who framed Liam, she discovers some mind boggling secrets, ones that involve her directly. I liked the suspense and the new direction of the story.
*I am enjoying seeing the new uneasy alliance between the paranormals and some of the humans. It will be interesting to see how things continue to pay out between them.
*I liked all the comedic relief. Claire hanging out with the two Quinn brothers provides plenty of funny situations. The humor was fun, and it lightened up the tone of the book.
And The Not So Much:
*This book ends with another dramatic cliffhanger. I am finding the cliffhangers a bit frustrating in this series.
*Some of the more interesting paranormal characters like Moses and Elinor had only small parts in this book, I found that I was wanting more magic and mayhem. I was also wishing for more Gunnar.
*I listened to the audiobook version narrated by Amy Landon. Amy did a fine job with Claire, but I have to say, her male voices were not good at all. I was not a fan of her narration for Liam. I would say, this is probably better to read than listen.

The Hunt redeemed the series for me. I was disappointed in the second book, but this third installment takes the book in a more mature direction. I was pleased to see the relationship settle out, and the story shift. This is a series that requires patience, but I am satisfied with the way the story is playing out. I will eagerly be reading the next book.

THE HUNT is the third book in the Devil’s Isle series and is best the appreciated in the context of the series as a whole as it picks up shortly after the conclusion of THE SIGHT. The battle in New Orleans has left an uneasy truce between the Paranormal Combatant Command (PCC) and the Paras, who are touched with magic. Claire Connolly is a Sensitive, a human affected by the magic from the Beyond, and she has to remain hidden as PCC fears she will lose control of her magic and become a deadly wraith. Claire is working with an underground group calling itself Delta to rally others to their side and combat the anti-magic sentiment permeating other humans. Meanwhile, Liam Quinn, the bounty hunter who taught her to control her magic, has disappeared since getting hit with magic during the battle. Unfortunately, a murder has occurred and Liam is being blamed. Chloe and Liam’s brother, Gavin, will have to find Liam and try to unravel just what is going on in New Orleans before it’s too late.

Wow! The conclusion of THE SIGHT was so gut-wrenching that I was a little fearful of how much more Chloe Neill would twist my heart but THE HUNT fulfills all my expectations. Don’t get me wrong- there are moments in THE HUNT that are nothing short of painful but Chloe Neill doesn’t leave us hanging. One of the trademarks of any book by Chloe Neill is her ability to combine emotionally drenched scenes with tons of action and THE HUNT is a prime example.

Claire and Liam are the heart and soul of the Devil’s Isle series and I love seeing how their relationship is evolving. However, it is the strength of the secondary characters that makes THE HUNT such a joy to read. Malachi, Moses, and Gavin take more of a leading role in THE HUNT but I was glad to see Gunnar and Tadji again. However, it is the world building that continues to amaze me. With each new installment in the Devil’s Isle series, Chloe Neill shows us just a bit more of this post-apocalyptic world where magic has changed everything.

THE HUNT answers as many questions as it asks and I can’t wait to see where Chloe Neill takes us with the next installment. Yes, there is a cliffhanger ending but thankfully it’s nowhere near as gut-wrenching as the conclusion of the last book. If you love urban fantasy that is full of action, has a well developed world, and characters who make you care, then give the Devil’s Isle series a try.

And we are back. With the last two reviews of this series, I was excited, I was high energy, and most importantly I wanted more. And yet again, I still want more. The Hunt by far is probably my favorite of the series. To me it tidied up a few of the pieces that I didn't love in the earlier books.

As always, Neill's writing is fast paced. Instead of feeling rushed, like we were barreling down a corridor toward the exit since as fast as our legs could carry, this time the writing just flowed. And not only was the pacing beautiful, but the character dynamic has 100 percent clicked into place. We know the cast, and better yet we understand their way of thinking and their motives. When they were on the page, they were as natural as breathing. And somehow just as all encompassing, when Claire was wound up in knots, so was I. When Gavin was a smart alec I grinned.

That's not to say that there wasn't interpersonal drama and conflict, goodness no. Would it be a Devil's Isle book if there wasn't drama abound? The action parts of the novel were evenly matched with internal drama as well. Which is how it should be. The Sight left Claire alone, and exiled by her community, forced to live in the shadows. This brought the readers much further into her head and I loved it.

And here is where I'm going to give into some appreciateive love to Claire. Not only did we see the independent, sassy heroine from the previous books, but we saw one who refused to let everything she'd lost keep her down. And not only that, but a woman who knows her worth. She knows what she deserves and if she doesn't get it, she is able to walk away. This is a lesson that is so hard to learn. I loved seeing a protagonist who has the confidence to say I get all, or nothing. It wasn't easy, and she knew that this may mean she again loses something important in her life. It's inspiring to see these traits on such vibrant display in a character.

This next installment of the series answered so many questions, opened up new ideas, and showed us more of the world around Devil's Isle. It feels like Neill is on her upswing. The characters are on point, the setting is ever growing and complex, the tangled web of conspiracy is starting to slowly unravel, and the pace doesn't let you put the book down.
And I only give you once guess as to how the book ends.

However, unlike my last review where I was spitting mad at the cliff-hanger, instead I am relieved. It was a set up. Some stories are just meant to be series, and this urban fantasy world offers so much that I am glad to keep reading about it. So much happened in The Hunt, that as the ending came around I knew there needed to be about 60% more book than there was to make me happy.. So here's to my favorite installment in the Devil's Isle series yet, and Ms. Neill I eagerly await your next chapter in this series.

NUMBER OF HEARTS: 3 1/2
I am enjoying this series and really happy that it looks like there will be another book. With that The Hunt started out a little slow for my liking. There was not a lot that happened until Claire, Malachi and Gavin go on the hunt for Liam to warn him about Containment. Once Liam is back with the group things start picking up in the story. And we finally get a little conclusion on the whole Claire and Liam issue (thankfully).
We also learn a lot more about Claire’s history, who her mother was. This throws a huge kink in the chain. I am looking forward to the next installment in this series.

As I have for the first two books I let the talented Amy Landon narrator this story for me. I have a deep love for audiobooks and love to find narrators that can bring an author's words to life for me. Ms. Landon does a wonderful of bring Claire, Liam, Malachi, Gavin and the whole gain to life for me.

Claire is laying low in New Orleans. Since she used magic out in the open she has to be careful or she is going to end up on Devil’s Isle. Liam left without telling anyone to try and come to terms with the magical back lash that left him with abilities. Claire isn’t sure where she stands with Liam and is trying to deal with NOLA. When NOLA decides to blame Liam for a murder, he didn’t commit, it becomes a race against the clock to find Liam and prove his innocence all before the government gets his hands on him.

Claire spends a lot of time in an emotional turmoil over Liam, dealing with family secrets and figuring out how to make the world safer for paranormals like her. When Liam comes back his issues with his magic adds to their relationship troubles.

I really enjoy the interesting cast of characters in this series. The reoccurring characters have different powers and situations and I liked them. They have all grown over the course of the series and have learned to rely on each other. The world building is really good and I liked the glimpses we get of the other realm. I really liked the contrast of the world outside of New Orleans that we saw a bit of in this installment.
So I look forward to the next book.

Chloe Neill continues the Hunt in this Devil's Isle novel. Claire Connolly was a sensitive on the run from the Containment, the national police who keep paranormals in containment on Devil' s Isle in New Orleans. Her boyfriend has become a paranormal and the Containment think he murdered someone. Who really did it and what is the threat to New Orleans and its paranormals. And just for fun Claire's mother who she thought was dead is alive and involved in a murderous plot.

Another fantastic paranormal romance form the author we know hits it out of the park every time.

This novel was no different.

Chloe gave us Claire and I fell in love. She was strong and full of fight and I want to be her best friend.

Then we got all the crazy of not only being a force to recon with, but also being full of all kinds of things people don't see coming. This novel had me turning pages as fast as I could. I got completely engrossed in the book and by the time I got to the end I didn't realize hours had passed.

I jumped not this series at this book and was A-okay to read it with little confusion. HOWEVER, I do intend to go back and read the other two because I AM HOOKED! Fantastic PNR with all the plot action I love.

I love Neill’s books but this one just didn’t do it for me. The characters fell flat and the storyline bored me. Usually, I can finish a book in a day but since this one dragged on and on, I took a long time to even finish it.
