Whenever I pick up a Bronwen Evans historical romance I'm guaranteed three things:

1. dashing heros who are equal parts rogue and gentleman
2. Beautiful ladies who are fierce in their beliefs and passion
3. A romance, sometimes hard won but always sure to please

On all three points, A Love to Remember hits its mark and we as the readers reap the spoils. The Disgraced Lords Series also offers a fair amount of suspense and intrigue to sweeten the pot, just in case you were wondering.

I recommend it!

I received an ARC of this book, from the publisher, via NetGalley, in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Philip doesn't have a problem with taking charge at times, “if I don’t get an answer I’m turning around and going straight to Rose’s room, decorum be damned.” Philip was about to turn around when he spied movement on the stairs below..." I really loved this book, Philip had his head up his butt half the time, but I still loved him.

Pigheaded stubbornness is taken to almost ridiculous extremes in this pair of lovers who have a lot of sex, but refuse to marry because the widow wants her freedom, and the lord is paralyzed by guilt over the Waterloo death of his brother....until they don't and aren't, but not at the same time.

I felt so bad for Rose. To love Philip so deeply and to not be loved the same in return. Oh sure he loved her, but not enough to marry. But then the next problem was that they shared a lot of friends and his sister was Rose's best friend. So she would have to run into him constantly or pretty much start her life over again. There were times that I just wanted to shake some sense into Philip. That's how much I invested myself into this book.

For Rose Deverill, living through one marriage was enough. She doesn’t mind her little affairs because she knows that she will never go to the altar again. As the widow of the Duke of Roxburough, she has the means to live her life by her own rules. But, when she encounters her first love, Philip, all her old rules go out the window. She wants him body and soul. Philip has been haunted by his brother’s death in the Battle of Waterloo. He should’ve died, not inherit a title he never deserved. Now, he has to make amends, and he doesn’t deserve the love of Rose, or any woman. Can Rose change Philip’s mind? Or is their love doomed?
This was another great romantic mystery done to create sleepless nights in every reader. The characters were sweet, engaging and sometimes, diabolical. The plot started like a sweet romance then turned into a mystery which kept me up wondering whodunit. I loved the way the characters had each other’s back and were able to lend a hand when needed. But, the best thing about this story is learning that misplaced guilt can cripple a life, and we should never give up our hearts in order to appease it. I received this from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. I had been waiting a long time for Phillips and Roses story. I just was disappointed in Phillip he kind of was a huge jerk. He got better so that was nice but I did enjoy the read.

I just loved this Novel. I am really into regency, so this did not disappoint me. There is passion, lust, regret, guilt, hot erotic scenes, romance, love and drama. This book has it all. There chemistry between Rose and Phillip is flowing out of each page. It is so well described that you almost can feel it.
The book is written in that way that you almost think you are there with the characters. When Phillip has to go on without Rose you can feel his fight within himself or when Rose has to let Phillip go you cry with her. My emotions where sometimes allover the place. I cried a some places and cheered for Rose in others.
I love that they have been given such character trait that you feel they are alive.
The book has got supporting characters that it really would miss and be a different book, if they were not there.
The book has it all. So it is really worth reading if you are into regency and romance.

It was so refreshing to read quite a different take on a historical romance. The seventh story in Disgraced Lords series could have easily become just tale; however, with the story beginning with Rose Deverill, the Duchess of Rosborough and Philip Flagstaff, the Earl of Cumberland as lovers, I knew this was going to be different. From the start, I was intrigued that this work but the obvious admiration that the two have for each other made me realise that Philip would just need some convincing to change his mindset. Philip is still grief stricken by his older brother’s death and believes that he should not benefit from being the new Earl in any form. This means that he refuses to wed or to have children, despite his obvious affection for Rose. Since the death of her husband, Rose has refused to marry but realises that she would like a family with Philip.
I was delighted to see familiar characters from past stories appear again in this novel and their presence only added to the romance and intrigue. I loved the two main characters! However, I still found myself berating Philip for his treatment of Rose and cheering on Rose for her strength and courage.

Okay I love Bronwens stories so much, but this one was a little harder to get lost in. Perhaps it was the nature of their relationship from the get go? I'm not totally sure. However the further in I got, the more I did enjoy it. Overall a good read.

This story had drama, romanace, evil villians, and a little bit of mystery. The characters were enjoyable and welcoming. I like heros who must overcome a struggle to become better for it. Worth reading this authors work!

Oh, I loved this book. It’s full of passion, lust and of course two troubled leads. Both don’t want to get married – Rose doesn’t want to remarry and Philip doesn’t want to produce a heir. Both have a backpack from their past they carry around.

Rose was kind of sold to an elderly Duke (Roxborough) before she had a season. A passionless, loveless marriage – thankfully she gave birth to a son within a short period. Plus, thankfully the Duke died quickly after it, so she was an independent widow.

Philip on the other hand was the second son of the Earl of Cumberland, who gambled a lot and lost a lot to risky investments. So one day he decided to join the army against Napoleon but he didn’t buy a commission. His older brother, Robert, followed him and when the enemy was about to kill Philip he went in between them and died – of course Philip blames him for Roberts death, even 6 years later.

Because Rose is Philip’s sister’s best friend they always spent a lot of time together. One day they start an affair. Both know that they don’t want to marry. Two years later they still have an affair and Rose knows that she loves him. The ton knows of their affair, everybody knows of it and each and everybody is waiting for him to offer for her.

Rose knows that her son’s guardian wants to her marry again. And she’d marry Philip if he’d ask her but he never overcame Robert’s death. He tells Rose that he doesn’t need an heir because he has three younger brothers who would inherit the title.

*

If course there is much more to the storyline. There is a lot of sex, lots of passion and lots of angst – especially in the last third of the book. There is a small “thing” in the end which was kind of predictable for me (and I loved it).

Bronwen Evans again created the perfect little escape for me – I read the book within a day, loved both leads and already knew the background story of some of the other characters because I read several other books of this series (not all so far though).

She has this kind of style that you cannot put the book away and I like it. It’s intriguing. Reading this book is like watching a movie, you can “see” it scene by scene.

I think it’s my 2nd favorite book this year so far!

From the beginning you are drawn in to the hero's pain and guilt. A guilt that blinds him. Philip has a good relationship with a woman who ignites his passion and soothes his soul as much as he will allow.

Rose has had feelings for Philip since she was very young. They never pursued a relationship until much later in life. She is a widow who has a five year old son, he has the title of a Duke at a very young age. Rose realizes she never wanted to marry again or have more children... until now. The only man she would ever consider would be Philip. She has had many lovers, but he has made her heart beat again.

These two now have a very complex journey and evil is also lurking. The Libertine Scholars and their wives are delightful.

This is a very good read.

I received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review. The story revolves around Phillip who inherits his brother's title if Earl after he saves his life at Waterloo. Phillip always believed his brother should never have died in order to save his life on the battlefield. His grief and shame caused him to deny himself a family of his own. He fell into an affair with Rose, who was a widow, and came to love her. He did not feel as though he deserved her and refused to marry her. Events happen, kidnapping and attempted murder of Rose and her son that caused him to realize that his brother would not have wanted him to deprive himself of happiness. The book us well written and retains your interest. I would highly recommend this book as it is of the same high standards as the other books written by Evans.
