The Wife Between Us is another domestic noir suspense that will have readers drawing comparisons to Gone Girl or Girl on the Train. With a classic, unexpected twist, Hendricks' keeps readers turning pages long into the night. |
The Wife Between Us is an interesting thriller co-written by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen. The summary of the book pulled me in; it was vague but mysterious. I wanted to know what it was entirely about right away. The novel shares POVs between Vanessa and Nellie. Nellie is a young and beautiful pre-school teacher who is engaged to a successful man named Richard. Vanessa is Richard's ex-wife, who is on a down-spiral from the divorce. The summary implies that while it's easy to assume the story will be about Vanessa's raging jealousy, it isn't that simple. And boy, is that right. I was pulled into a intense and chilling thriller I didn't expect. Unfortunately, I had a tough time reading. Vanessa's POV is written in first-person, present tense. Nellie's is in third-person, past tense. Reading through Nellie's POV was difficult because I had a hard time telling the difference between what was being told in the now and what she was telling about past events. It felt all blurred together, and I had to go back and reread the entire page to figure it out. That kind of ruined the experience a bit. Overall, the book was good, but the writing style for Nellie's POV wasn't my cup of tea. 3.5/5. |
3.5 stars because I sorta saw the first twist coming and the last couple twists were so out of nowhere (to me) and were in the last few pages that it seemed like they were just thrown in there without much of a reason or a plan. I don't know. I definitely liked it, but it was forgettable, I guess. Haha obviously my feelings are mixed and a bit vague. I recommend it if you like thrillers but don't expect to be blown away! I ended up reading a physical completed copy of this, but I also received a digital ARC from St. Martin's Press via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you SMP! |

I REALLY enjoyed this book! It ended up being much different that I thought it would be. Before being given the digital copy from Net Galley, I actually received a free paperback copy in the mail. It was the first paperback book I had read since 2011 when I first started e-reading and I read it by flashlight after my husband had gone to sleep, that's how much I wanted to keep reading! I highly recommend it! |
This books is a rollercoaster of a ride! I could hardly put it down once I started reading. The twists in the book had me second guessing and going back to reread previous chapters to make sure I was not getting confused. Excellent storyline and wonderful plot. I thoroughly enjoyed this thriller! |
******Was provided a copy from NETGALLEY******* I went into this book thinking it was another story about a woman scorned and seeking her revenge. There were so many reasons to think this as I started. The back story of her chaotic childhood and something illicit that happened in college and sudden need to run away from home. Then there is the absolutely wonderful husband, who is literally prince charming coming in to save her. The more and more you read about Richard the more you realize he really is too good to be true. I will admit I did not see a lot of the twists and turns this book took. The end of the first part left me confused and took me a while to realize what I had read( sorry, I'm a little slow sometimes) It left me thinking Vanessa was pathetic and I tired of her. Second part still had me frustrated with her but as the book went on everything began to click into place. She was not who I thought she was and I believe all the characters underestimated her.. The two twists at the end I had no idea were coming, the first one cleared up a question or two. The last one was absolutely unexpected. |

Excellent suspense story! I did not see the big reveal in the novel coming and the double narration was fantastic. Hendricks and Pekkanen did a wonderful job of challenging the reader's perspective as they told the story through different eyes and different voices. |
AMAZING. I cannot wait to read more of Gendricks and Pekkanen's novels. You really could relate with the main characters and get inside their heads. I was so impressed with their writing styles and the way the characters jumped out of the pages at you. And an amazing ending as well... simply outstanding, I recommend this novel to anyone. It will have you wanting to finish it in a day! |
The Wife Between Us is a Psychological Suspense Thriller that is a real page turner. I was a little confused in the first third of the book, but kept reading and everything started to come together. At first I thought the wife was crazy and the husband was controlling. The story has several twists that kept you turning the pages to try to figure out the ending. I never saw the ending coming. A great read. Thank you Netgalley and publisher for a copy of this book and this is my honest review. |
This book was SO well written! I thought I knew what was going to happen from the very beginning and boy was I wrong! I can't believe I didn't guess this one. There were quite a few different twists throughout the book which was just amazing. I was blindsided by how wrong I was. And I feel like this one was so much better than some of the other psychological thrillers out there that just get way too twisty to the point where I don't even understand what happened. This book is not like those. I definitely recommend this book to those who enjoy mystery/psychological thrillers! Thank you for the copy! |
I can't even describe how misleading this whole story plot was. Like holy cow! But I loved it too. It was such an unexpected read. And I loved every page of it. It kept me so entranced with it through the whole thing. And I found myself not wanting to put the book down so I could see what was going to happen. It had everything a good story could offer. And will leave you waiting and wanting more. A five star read for sure |
“The Wife Between Us” by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen The reader is drawn into this novel from the first sentence and is kept captivated throughout. Twists and turns and the question of whose story is truly being told will keep you turning page after page. Parts will surprise you, even when you think you have it all figured out. Then a new piece of information is put forth and what you believed all along appears not be was was “seen.” An intriguing, mysterious, realistic, twisting and turning novel that will keep you on your toes. A non-stop page turner that will keep you reading late into the night. A novel anyone who likes psychological thrillers will want to read right away. But it is not just for them...it is a read for every adult, men and women. Pick it up and be consumed. Rating: 4.8 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ** I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this novel. All thoughts and opinions are my own. |

The Wife Between Us is an absolutely addicting page turner! As the book description says, you will assume so much and with each page there is a new twist and turn and your assumptions are blown away. I admit there was a part of the book that left me very confused, but just keep going and you are blown away! The secrets, lies, deceptions, betrayals, and the pure genius of Nellie ......you just can't read fast enough! Just when you think it's all settled and you know all the secrets.....another revelation at the end blows you away again! My first read read by this duo and I will definitely be reading many more! |

I admit when I started reading this I got lost a few times. The authors play with time/place a lot and I found myself pausing to get reoriented a few times. That being said, The Wife Between Us is a clever, well-written story of a woman with both a troubled past and difficult present. The reader will think they have figured out the ending - and be wrong (several times). I was especially pleased with the ending. The Wife Between Us is an entertaining, suspenseful story that I highly recommend. |
My Highly Caffeinated Thought: A completely addictive roller coaster ride packed with tension, twists, turns, and an ending you will never see coming. A must read! It takes a lot for a book to take me by surprise, but THE WIFE BETWEEN US has it all. This wonderfully deceptive and smart narrative takes the reader on a ride that you will not want to end. I started this book with the thought that I would take the week and leisurely read it. Ha! Joke was on me because I devoured it within a day. This book is an example of what a quality domestic psychological thriller can be. The story is fresh and unique enough for it stands out from all the rest. As you start reading, you think you are getting one story, but then without any warning, you are hit with a twist which changes everything. The authors brilliantly build the suspense by adding layers to the story through the characters as well as their interactions. The reveals are mind-blowing and will have your jaw dropping from shock. I loved that I never knew what was going to happen next. For readers who loved GONE GIRL or BEHIND CLOSED DOORS, this is a book you will need to add to your reading list. I absolutely loved this book. |

Enough twists to keep me interested the whole time. A page turner worth reading. The ending felt like a slight whimper but I liked how throughout the book, especially part 2, changed everything I thought I knew. |
This was my first book by Greer Hendricks and will honestly say I was not so sure about this book at the beginning. I don't know if it was her style of writing or the jumping back and forth so much but I felt like I was getting a little bit lost. I kept on going since it was so raved about and I will honestly say that by the time I was a quarter of the way through it started to stick and I wanted to know what was really going on. I will say that this had a quite a few interesting twists happening that kept me going. The ending was something I never saw coming which I have to applaud the authors for pulling off the great surprise. It's definitely worth the read. |
This is a hard one to write y'all. I was highly anticipating this book that is out January 9th. *The writing was well done. *The premise was right up my alley. *It kept me reading...all day without stopping. With all that being said. It did not deliver. I can't tell you too much (yep, it's one of those books). It is the story of a woman, who is obsessed with her replacement. It's about the replacements inside look at her relationship with her future husband. I was hooked. I kept reading...it was not a book I wanted to quit. For that alone I am giving it 🌟🌟🌟💫 stars. Why is this not a five star read for me (because it was for some of my most respected #bookstagrammers) ? I didn't love the ending. It was anticlimactic for me. I will say this. I think if you enjoy thrillers, fast paced reads that turn you upside down...you should read it. |
Very interesting and unusual story. Keeps your attention and keeps you wondering. Recommended. Very unusual subject. |
