This is the first book I've read by this author and really enjoyed it, although it might have been wrapped up a little too fast. I will look into the 2 previous books in the series. However, by no means do I think you need to read those first. Mary is a nice strong character who finds out about a possible false conviction and corruption in the NYC police department before Roosevelt took over.

Mr. Levy has an amazing talent for weaving famous people in history into a tale of intrigue. Female PI Mary Handley is on task to solve the mysteries presented to her, which includes being involved in dangerous situations. This book is intriguing to me because of Russell Sage's wife, Margaret Olivia Slocum Sage, who was born and raised in Syracuse, N.Y., and buried in Oakwood Cemetery there. Also, Syracuse is home to at least two of Andrew Carnegie's libraries. I also find the change in Mary's family interesting, and I look forward to seeing how Mr. Levy handles the change in future books. I'm looking forward to them already. I learn something new from every Levy book I've read. Thank You!
