I'm throwing in the towel at the 50% mark because I've been slogging through this (never a great sign for a shorter category romance!) and I'm totally indifferent on what happens to the couple. There's a lot of niggling things here that started piling up and now I'm hovering at a high enough level of annoyance that the thought of picking this back up to read more is about as appealing as eating plain, steam broccoli.

It's supposedly set in Manhattan. Here's the thing, New York City is a VERY distinct setting. It's NEW YORK CITY. You have to get it right, at least the "flavor" of it, because even readers with just a casual, passing knowledge of the City are going to pick it apart. I understand that the Medical line is way more popular overseas than in the US and that the author lives in New Zealand - but the characters are presumably Americans who live in NEW YORK CITY! Americans do not call flashlights "torches." The New York City subway system is never called the "Tube" by Americans. And for the love of God - AMERICAN DOCTORS DO NOT READ PATIENT TEMPERATURES IN DEGREES CELSIUS! That one pushed me over the edge. Look, I know American authors leaving out the u from certain words when the book is set in Regency England is possibly annoying to non-American readers - but that's hardly the same thing. I was fine reading "kerb" instead of "curb." But Tube, torch and FOR THE LOVE OF GOD AMERICAN DOCTORS DO NOT READ OUT TEMPERATURES AS DEGREES CELSIUS ESPECIALLY IN EMERGENCY ROOM SITUATIONS!!!!!!

There's cutesy plot-moppet twins - which hello, I knew that going in because look at the cover - but they're not written especially well. The hero has a Dead First Wife who he was actually in love with (OK, that's good). The heroine has some sort of angst that I suspect has to do with fertility issues. I can't confirm that for sure, but I can confirm that there's no miracle baby and/or pregnancy in the epilogue (I did skip ahead to check that).

YMMV, but meh. I'm indifferent, life is too short, my TBR is too ginormous.

Dr.Grace is starting over in a new hospital and his quite a day first the power went out in the hospital shes starting off in and then she runs into a guy from the past. The old spark that was between the two seems to not have gone out and they are different people now maybe they can start anew but will the past repeat itself?

I thought that this was such charming sweet book. It was cute seeing how Grace interacted with Charles children. It was interesting seeing their life, and what happened when they weren't with eachother and getting to know the reasoning why they split in the first place. I love comeing across books that test the boundaries of second chances at love and this book was just a nice read. Also side benefit is that its short so while readers are dealing with hectic life during this holiday season this book can be used as a brief escape for those with little time to spare, it was such a quick read.

An emotional and heartwarming tale of finding your place in the world, following your destiny, and finding your true north.
I absolutely adore the connection between Dr. Grace Forbes and ER chief Dr. Charles Davenport. They met in medical school, the spark was evident between them even then, but life happened just when they had a chance to build something lasting, and they were drifted apart. But they get a second chance with the connection and possibilities if life just would not interfere again. I admire that Charles did not dilute the bond, the spark, the meaning Grace had for him, even when he had a chance for it several times. He stood up for his feelings, he messes up, sure, no one is perfect, but he is willing to go the extra mile to prove his love, his level of commitment, and the depth of his feelings. That's what I love about reading romance novels about mentally mature people, they don't hide their feelings and intentions.
Charles' twin boys would melt anyone's heart, and they sure won me over. The boys and Houston gave some humorous moments to the tale, kept me smiling like a loon.
The medical knowledge the author has is beyond reproach. She knows what she is talking about, she shares her knowledge with intense scenes where life and death are in the balance, yet using language that didn't go over my head while reading the story. The hectic life at the ER sounds realistic and practical.
A poignant and touching story of two soul mates getting a second chance to build a relationship despite all the life's challenges - the hectic life of the ER, the losses in life, and life-altering illnesses, even the relentlessly hunting paparazzis.

I enjoyed Sleigh Ride with the Single Dad, let me tell you in advance it is not an erotic romance, all sexual scenes are behind closed doors, but that did not dull my enjoyment of the story, actually it fit well with Grace and Charles romance.

Grace and Charles have both been dealt things in life that most people can’t handle, each had come to terms with living life the way they currently were, Charles being a single father to twins and Grace living on her own and never having kids. A job opening brings these two back face to face and the old feelings resurface but both have been so hurt by life they aren’t sure if being more than friends is a chance they want to take. When Grace meets Charles’ twins Max and Cameron she felt a love like she never felt before, she also realized she is falling in love with Charles. When Charles sees Grace again he realizes he and his boys have been missing out on the love of a woman, but he is still hesitant to try to bring someone into their lives again.

Sleigh Ride with the Single Dad is an emotional yet light-hearted romance with strong, vulnerable main characters, interesting secondary characters and two boys plus a dog who steal many scenes. I love that Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas are the time frame of this story, a story of love, family and second chances that has definitely put me in the holiday spirit!

4 1/2 STARS!

Alison Roberts tugs on our emotions with the best of them! A heartwarming story about learning to live again after loss and personal tragedy. The characters are developed throughout the story as we learn bits about each of their pasts and watch them remember the past they shared together with fondness. Neither is looking for the other when they reconnect, but it doesn't take them long to figure out it was meant to be! Looking forward to more in this series!

Dr. Grace Forbes has been dreading her first day at Manhattan Mercy's ER because it was going to reconnect her with a flame from her past, Charles Davenport who just happens to be her new boss! Being thrown head first into a drastic first day in the ER manages to make the re-introduction much easier than expected and they find themselves remembering old times fondly before they know it.

Dr. Charles Davenport feels like he has lived an entire life since he last saw Grace. He prospered in his career, wed a wonderful woman and proceeded to lose her and be left to parent their adorable twin sons on his own. He's not looking to stir up his life, but the attraction between he and Grace doesn't seem to have dwindled after all of these years! She's been through hard times herself and is just now coming back out into the world to enjoy it after beating cancer ... and as bittersweet as it is to be around his sons knowing she can't have children of her own, she begins to adore them as soon as she has her first meeting!

This is such a good book. The story of Grace and Charles. Once a couple then pulled apart by circumstances. Reconnecting years later after tragedy has struck both of them. This story tugs at your heartstrings from beginning to end.

MY RATING: 3/5 STARS

I received an arc in exchange for an honest review.

Sleigh Ride with the Single Dad tells the story of Grace and Charles, two people who were destined to be with each other but life pulled them apart. Charles, married and loved another woman, became a single father to two adorable children while Grace advanced in her career. The spark between each other are still there even through all this time.

I enjoyed this story because Grace was a sweetheart. You can really tell she cared about the children deeply from the way she interacted with them and you can see how much she's just trying to make them feel loved. Normally, I wouldn't read stories involving characters having children from outside of the main relationship I'm set to read but Alison Roberts did a wonderful job at making me fall in love with the characters and the plot.

I also liked how slowly Charles eased himself into the relationship. We can see how he fell in love with Grace all over again through the daily interactions she had with his small little family, giving him hope in the midst of all the things that were left broken after his wife passed away.

MY RECOMMENDATION:

Pick it up!

I loved this book. It wasn't long enough because I wanted it to keep going. Christmas is just the right holiday to start over and throw twins in the mix. what a winner.
