Highwaymen and pirates! ____ 3.5 stars

Quite an unexpected Regency romance with a pirate Lord and a young heiress fleeing a nasty step relatives. I quite enjoyed it even though it took me so long to read.
Emma St. James is no shrinking violet and it seems her undeterred faith and her willingness to take action keeps her one step ahead of a nasty fate.
Dare, Captain Robert Ashton, Earl of Darington, is a man used to action and mincing about drawing rooms looking for a suitable wife is some thing he's not suited to. Glowering and stoney silences are more his forté in these gruelling exercises. All of course add to his reputation as the Pirate Earl.
'As a child, Emma had dreamed of her wedding. What little girl did not?' Emma's prospects now seem so different as she sets forth to be a bride to an unknown grandson of a Lord in America. It's either this, marriage to her step brother, or an asylum.
As fate would have it Emma's plans take a hiatus when she and Dare meet on a dark and stormy night (well not quite!), but Dare does rescue Emma from a carriage accident and capture by brigands. The latter it turns out are no accident!
The adventures go on from here. Emma armed with her faith and resolve, Dare with his persistence and earned reputation. The dance between the two is excruciatingly sweet in a nice way. 'Earl Interrupted' is a fitting title. Because he is, constantly!

A fun read!

The events of this one take place somewhat concurrently with the ones from book one in the series ( If the Earl Only Knew ) but as each is focused on a different twin (Robert "Dare" in this one and Kate in the other) they could also work as standalones. To be honest, I've forgotten most of the details of the first book already, so it was pretty much as if I was starting here anyway--and I did just fine ;)

Emma and Dare's story is a sweet romance with more than a touch of danger thrown in. It was a bit frustrating at times--much of their issues could have been resolved with frank discussions--but overall it was a lot of fun to read, and the ending was more than satisfying. There is a touch of religion here that I wasn't quite expecting--Emma finds a lot of comfort in her faith and occasionally quotes scripture and prays--it's not overwhelming, but if that bothers you just be warned.

Can't wait to see where Ms. Forester will go next!

This is the story of Robert, the Earl of Darington. He is the twin brother of Kate, who's story was told in the previous book, If the Earl only Knew. These 2 books tell of the same events from different viewpoints. Im not a fan of these type of books, having read a few before. I must say that this was different enough so that it didn't feel like the same story.
As for the story, there were parts I liked and parts I didnt like. The beginning of the story wss great, where Robert first meets his heroine, Emma. He really is the knight in shinning armour in the intro.
I think the problem was they're both social misfits, haven't been around people most of their lives. As a result they never seemed comfortable with each other and I just didn't feel the connection romantically. I felt admiration but not a strong chemistry.
I also wasnt crazy aboyt the ending. Who wants to be married by your arch enemy, who killed your parents? Really?

Dubbed as the Pirate Earl, Captain Robert Ashton, Earl of Darlington, has returned from the high seas. Dare has amassed his fortune and thinking of taking on a bride.

When his sister Kate was abducted, he went after the abductors but got injured in the process.

Orphan Emma St. James flees from her devious stepmother and wicked stepbrother . Unfortunately, her carriage overturns along the road, to make the matters worse, they were beset by unsavoury characters. An injured gentleman came to her rescue.

Emma was trained by her late physician father and tended to Dare's injuries. Their meeting is the beginning of their perilous journey, trouble dogging them at their heels.

Emma is a woman of faith. Her kindness and strength of character are admirable. Dare is all that is good and honourable. It's difficult not to endear to them. I would recommend this. Full of swashbuckling action and adventure.

If you are looking for a steamy romance, this is not it. But this was written so beautifully. Book 1 is Kate's story. Both are well worth-reading.

Emma St. James is about to come into her majority which means she will gain her inheritance. Unfortunately, Emma’s Step-mother and Step-brother don’t want to turn over the reigns of her fortune. They’re willing to do anything, including sending Emma to an asylum to keep from doing it.

Privateer Dare “Lord of Darlington” is famous for his exploits on the high seas. After his recent haul, Dare realizes it’s time to find a wife. Unfortunately, he must go to London to do that. Upon arriving in London Dare’s sister is kidnapped and he is wounded. Thankfully, a beautiful stranger comes to his rescue. The woman affects him more than any before.

Danger lurks everywhere. Emma and Dare must lean on each other to remain alive.

Dare and Emma have one hell of an adventure in Earl Interrupted. I liked the action in Earl Interrupted. It came quickly and kept the story rolling. I felt for the characters immediately. Emma and Dare’s situation is dire. They have excellent chemistry my only problem was the romance moved at a slow rate. I kept waiting for more conversation and less introspection. I loved parts of Earl Interrupted but it’s a little too slow to form the romance for me.

Emma St. James days away from reaching her majority and coming into her sizable inheritance. But her stepmother and stepbrother are plotting to have her declared insane so they can steal her fortune. Emma goes behind their backs and contracts a marriage for herself. She flees her home and intends to go to America and marry...

Dare along with his sister Kate and their friend the Earl of Wynbrook are enroute to a house party when Kate is kidnapped. Dare chases down her abductors and manages to save her, but gets shot and knocked out before he can escape. When he comes to, he realizes the coach has stopped and when he gets out, he sees his abductors robbing a young woman. He is unable to walk away and leave her. He saves her, but collapses before they can get away.

Emma refuses to leave him, she gets him to an inn and tells the innkeeper they are married and need a room. Emma tends Dare's wounds. Dare awakes and sees Emma, he knows they will have to marry and asks her why she was traveling alone, when she tells him she was on her way to meet her betrothed, Dare is not happy with the news. Emma and Dare get to know each other a bit better and he tells her she should leave, but she refuses. When the men that attacked them show up and the magistrate that Emma and Dare robbed them and killed one of their friends, they know they have to leave. Thankfully, Kate and Wynbrook show up and are able to help them escape.

They travel to Dare's country estate and Dare plans to ask Emma to marry him. But when Kate and Dare learn some disturbing news, Dare knows he can't marry her and he must find the man who killed his father and is now trying to kill him. The only way he can keep her safe is to send her away.

Emma has not had an easy life since her father died and she turned to her faith in God to get her through her darkest times, but after Dare told her he could not marry her and is sending her away, she is heartbroken and for the first time is losing faith in God. She and Dare part and she goes to meet her escort, but instead she overhears her stepbrother Eustace telling the woman that Emma is insane. She hides in her room and hopes to talk to the woman after Eustace leaves, but she learns the woman left right away. She attempts to catch her, but soon learns the woman and ship she was supposed to take to America have both left without her and Eustace is hot on her heels. She manages to escape Eustace, but finds herself in a world of trouble.

Dare can't believe that the woman he loves is on a smuggler's ship and turns away from his own quest to save her. Emma is overjoyed to see Dare again and when he saves her and plans to lose his quarry to return her to England, she flat out refuse to let him.

These two are perfect for each other, Emma is a ray of sunshine and Dare is noble and steadfast. This story is a non-stop adventure from the first page until the very last word and I loved every minute of the ride! It is well written and fast paced with a lot of action, a couple of warm love scenes, pirates, treasure, revenge, greedy relatives and a very hard earned HEA.

This story is the second in the series, but it could easily be read as a stand alone title with no problems as it runs concurrently with the previous book.

a Pirate Earl - he needed to recover his wealth - who is now looking for a wife.
An orphan lady who finds herself in an intrigue game of her stepmother to steal her inheritance left by her father.
When the two end up meeting because of a fluke - a kidnapping !! -, they decide to join forces so that each one could get rid of its opponent.
Perhaps Darington's, the Pirate Earl, was more deadly, but for sure Emma's enemies would do anything to rob her of money and estate.

An interesting plot, whose characters didn't captivate me.

fell in love with this series from the first book. I adored the tough, smart, and loyal Lady Kate. Knowing what she and her twin brother, Robert, endured as children made me want to see them both find happiness. I was anxious for Robert’s story. Especially so because Robert was known as the Pirate Earl. Who doesn’t love a good pirate romance? All that danger, swashbuckling, and romancing on the high seas! And I was not disappointed. There are so many threads woven into this story creating an exciting tale of betrayal, revenge, and love. And there’s even a sunken treasure involved!

Robert Ashton, Earl of Darington and his twin sister, Lady Katherine, were essentially orphaned and briefly sent to debtor’s prison at age 12. An unknown enemy had stolen everything from them and so Robert, Dare, had taken to the high seas to restore the family coffers. He’d become a feared privateer. Somber and steady, and never failing to take his prize. He loved the sea. But it was time to find a wife. Dare found the high seas less treacherous than society but knew, as Earl of Darington, he had no choice.
Emma St. James had enjoyed her life making rounds with and assisting her father, a doctor and surgeon. After his death, Emma lived with her step mother and step brother who served as trustees of her father’s, and now her, estate. Emma would soon come into her majority, inheriting everything. But it seemed her step mother and step brother had plans for her. Plans that involved Emma marrying her horrid step brother. Plans Emma wanted no part of. When Emma refused, her step brother began efforts to have her committed. Knowing women had no power in a man’s world, Emma planned to flee and marry a man she’d never met.
And that’s where the adventure began. When Dare’s sister, Kate, was kidnapped, Dare chased after them. Circumstances threw Emma and Dare together and Dare, though injured, saved Emma’s life. But the danger only escalated. It seemed Dare and Emma were both being pursued by nefarious forces. So Dare and Emma find themselves traveling through England and onto the high seas. Trying to evade one danger while pursuing another. All the while their attraction to one another is growing. Neither knew what to call the strange sensations they felt around each other but they were willing to risk anything to explore it further.
This story was a non-stop, action-packed adventure. I loved Dare and Emma. They were the perfect match for one another. Emma was tough, brave, and resourceful. She’d assisted her father growing up and was an excellent doctor. She was able to stay in control in situations that would cower most men. She was an innocent though. She’d been more or less isolated growing up since her step mother wanted to ensure she didn’t marry. Her attraction to and feelings for Dare confused her at times. I couldn’t help but chuckle at the thoughts that went through her head when she’d admire Dare’s physique. I loved her optimism too. She chose to see each obstacle as a chance for adventure. “Real life adventures were much more uncomfortable and messy than reading about them in books, but Emma was no less enthralled.” No matter the dangers ahead, Emma had faith they’d see it through. Through Emma, Dare found faith too. Dare was absolutely darling. He wasn’t comfortable making small talk with women and felt completely clueless when it came to wooing one. Yet with Emma, he was oddly content. Unless he fixated on her curves, then he became tongue tied again. He may not have been a master of conversation, but some of his proclamations to Emma were more romantic than any sonnet. It was obvious they cared for one another but Dare didn’t want the danger that was following them to touch Emma. And as the danger increased, the odds of surviving weren’t high. Dare was prepared to risk everything, even his life, to keep Emma safe. And Emma was determined to take that risk right alongside him.
The characters of Dare and Emma are brilliantly crafted and will win your heart from the beginning. This was a grand tale I could not put down. A fascinating story with superb writing, intriguing plot, a strong but haunted hero, and a heroine with enough gumption and faith for both of them. I can’t wait to see what comes next in this series!

Lady Emma has a problem at home. Lord Darrington or ‘Dare’ has a few nagging issues he has to address in his life as well. While Emma is in the midst of running away from home in the hope of solving her problem, she becomes embroiled in Dare’s concerns with their meeting along their way in a most unconventional style. Their story begins with action and danger as Emma assists an injured Dare and the two go on together in a series of events that draw them closer together.
The story has some colorful characters, and the interaction between the two main characters was sweet. All in all an enjoyable afternoon read.

earl interrupted is the second part of the daring marriages series. robert ashton, earl of darington is more comfortable on a ship's deck than in a society drawing room. having recovered his family's fortunes on the high seas, it's time for him to return to london and make an acceptable marriage. except for all his strength and determination managing an unruly crew, speaking with delicate young ladies terrifies him and twists his tongue into knots.

miss emma st. james finds herself in difficult circumstances. about to reach her majority and in line to inherit her father's estate, her stepmother and stepbrother are trying to find a way to have her declared insane if she doesn't marry her stepbrother. so she runs away having promised to marry a stranger in america and immediately finds trouble.

rescued by robert, who has been shot, emma refuses to leave him behind when they both must seek refuge from the men who have assaulted them. this puts them in a most improper situation and in close quarters.

early on robert finds that being with emma is easy. he can speak with her. he enjoys her company. and even though he should feel pressured into marriage given the circumstances, he's genuinely happy to propose to her and isn't doing it out of societal obligations. when she says no he's actually disappointed. he needs to find a way to convince her that he isn't asking for her hand because he feels he must, but because he wants to.

there is some real drama and excitement surrounding darington's nemesis, esqueleto, and the troubles he and his sister faced as chiildren and emma's voyage to america. this regency romance takes place in a unique setting and proves to be very enjoyable. told over the same time frame as robert's sister's romance, if the earl only knew, the novel stands alone but the glimpses you see of lady kate's and lord wynbrook's relationship does make you want to add it to your tbr if you haven't already read it.

**earl interrupted will publish on january 2, 2018. i received an advance reader copy courtesy of netgalley/sourcebooks casablanca in exchange for my honest review.

Earl Interrupted by Amanda Forester is book Two in "The Daring Marriages" series. This is the story of Captain Robert Ashton, Earl of Darington and Emma St. James. I have read (and loved the previous book 'If the Earl Only Knew' but feel this can be a standalone book. This book story line runs at the same time as the last book so there is not days or years past since the last book timeline.
Dare and his twin sister have return after being on the run for so long to keep out of debtor's prison. Dare has enough money to return and pick up his life as a Earl along with finding a wife. But Dare soon learns that someone from his at sea days are after him. On one such attempt to take his sister he ends up saving and meeting Emma.
Emma is trying to start her a new life away from her Step mother and Step brother. After Emma's refusal to sign papers to turn over her inheritance or marry her stepbrother has her in big trouble with them. But then she meets Dare and that takes her and him into a new chapter in them starting a new life....but they had to go through some hoops to get there.
I had been waiting to see what Dare's story would be! It did not disappoint at all....loved it!

What an awesome, amazing story!

I so love a pirate story and this was a PHENOMENAL one!
I loved Robert Ashton Earl of Darington and Emma St.James their story is one non-stop action packed adventure. Emma was by no means a society belle she’d been isolated and was quite the innocent, but that didn’t mean that she was immune to Dare. Emma’s life has taken a downwards spiral after her father’s death he has left all his fortune to her and a small amount to her stepmother, whose not happy about that and plans to force her to marry her evil stepbrother. Emma decides to escape, on her journey her carriage is overturned while fleeing from her family. Dare has been shot and captured by the men he rescued his sister from and his captors come across Emma and there starts a journey of adventure, survival and love!

This was another great read full of surprises, adventure villains and breathtaking twists a must read!

I received a complimentary copy from the publisher through NetGalley for my honest unbiased opinion.

It was an odd trope to read. I am not sure how I felt about her not ever wanting to leave him, despite the danger and it felt a little off. I can't really say what it was, but some of it felt a little forced. Overall it was a pleasant enough read, but not great :( I would like to read more by the author though, as I have read her books before and didn't get the same feel from them.

A Swashbuckling Romance
This was a book that swept me away into another world. We have treason, murder, pirates, scheming relatives, a practical and beautiful lady with medical talents and a privateer Earl in need of a wife. A highly enjoyable read, try it for yourself.

The dare is to not fall in love with not only the characters, but the author as well. Adventure on the high seas spills over to dry land with a Pirate Earl and an amateur physician. Earl Interrupted is an active look at a dangerous love affair that ignites the heart and inspires the soul. Any tale that inspires women to be courageous in not only matters of the heart, but following their dreams is A - okay with me. Robert and Emma steam up the pages of this action packed thrill ride.

Rated 4.5!

Captain Robert Ashton, Earl of Darington, has returned home at last. He has finally made his fortune and is ready to settle down. All Dare needs to do is find a bride which will be a challenge with all the rumors circulating about his being a pirate. Dare is on his way to a function with his sister, Kate, and his friend, Lord Wynbrook, when something most unexpected happens. His sister is abducted right in front of his eyes. Dare will not stand for it and rushes headlong into the situation without a care for his own well-being.

Emma St. James runs away from home when she learns that her stepbrother and stepmother are planning to have her committed to an asylum... all just to steal her inheritance. Emma plans to go to America and has even arranged a marriage with the aid of a friend. Emma seems to be going accordingly until her carriage overturns and Emma's driver leaves her and her maid all alone on the side of the road. Things only escalate from there when another carriage arrives full of criminals. Luckily, a man comes to her rescue and Emma is saved from a terrible fate. Unfortunately, he is injured, so Emma decides then and there to return the favor.

Dare and Emma hit it off well, but Emma stands by her decision to head to America when Dare is healed. Dare knows Emma is the one for him. Somehow, he must convince her to choose him. Things progress quickly between them until danger threatens. Dare sends Emma away only to realize it was a mistake. Fate causes them to cross paths again, and this time Dare is not willing to let her go. But will Emma feel the same?

I am quickly becoming a huge fan of author Amanda Forester. I recently discovered her work and am over the moon about it right now. EARL INTERRUPTED is everything... adventurous, thrilling, passion-filled, witty, you name it. I just could not put it down. Dare is not your typical hero. He is a little unsure of himself and doesn't know how to act around women, which is refreshing. Emma is just what he needs to bring him out of his comfort zone. Their story is charming!

Captain Robert Ashton, Earl of Darington, the 'Pirate Earl', has returned to London to find a bride. Unfortunately, Dare is more comfortable on the high seas than with mingling with the ton and is never more obvious when two young ladies refuse his marriage proposal. While out in his carriage with his sister, they are attacked by highwaymen. Dare manages to push Kate out of the carriage, but in the process, he is shot. When the carriage stops, he realizes that the same brutes are now harassing 2 young women stranded on the road.

Emma St. James and her maid are fleeing her vicious step-brother and were on their way to Portsmouth when their carriage overturns. Thinking their rescue is imminent, Emma is aghast to realize that these are not gentlemen who have stopped. Though wounded, Dare attacks the men and Emma, her maid and Dare escape into the woods and finally to an inn. Emma tends to the wounded Dare while he tries to puzzle out who attacked him. Emma reveals why she was running away and Dare finds himself drawn to the fiesty and brave Emma.

The storyline was good and the writing well-done, but I didn't quite believe the instant connection between Emma and Dare. Perhaps if more time had passed than just a few days, their attraction would not have felt so forced.

Captain Robert Ashton, Earl of Darington, knows finding a bride in London will not be easy—not since he has been notoriously dubbed as the "Pirate Earl". What he didn't expect was to get abducted, shot and to have his escape go horribly awry when an innocent lady gets caught in the crossfire. Amateur physician Emma St. James is on her way to America to meet her betrothed when she is rescued by an injured gentleman. Despite her shock after discovering he is the Pirate Earl, Emma is escaping her wicked stepmother & step brother who want her inheritance.
This is the second book of the series & time wise runs parallel to Kate’s story, it could definitely be read as a stand alone, but these two books are so good that I’d read them in order, I started this book & was fascinated by Kate so went & read her story first – I do have a thing about reading a series in order though. The characters are well portrayed, I loved Dare who is so at home on a ship but awkward & gauche in society or around young women. The pace was good & there was adventure, a mystery to solve as well as two people falling in love

My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
