I really enjoyed this book. The cover really caught my attention first, it was so Christmassy, but there was actually a lot more depth to it than I had initially realised. I loved that the thread between all the neighbours in the street was Jack, the street dog who'd been abandoned by his previous owners when they moved out (who does that??), and now 'belonged' to all the neighbours, most of whom fed him without knowing about the others!

The story revolved around the new arrivals in Christmas Street, Sam and his seven year old son Teddy who have just moved into the house that Jack's previous owners moved out of. Sam and Teddy have moved back from the US after Teddy's Mum died and Sam, who is initially from the UK, moved Teddy back to the UK for a new start. Sam is very much out of his depth, but his sister and her children live nearby so they provide support while Sam finds his feet.

There are various neighbours, an Indian family, a Polish family, a gay couple, a fitness/blog writing woman living on her own, and a cranky old neighbour (loved Bill!), along with Teddy's lovely teacher Miss Quinn, and the story flows around their different stories and interactions really well, usually with Jack somewhere in the background. There's snippets of each family's life throughout each chapter which really held my interest. Most of these neighbours had very little to do with each other, until Sam and Teddy arrived, then things slowly started changing for the better and they all started to get to know each other a bit more.

There were a few dramas towards the end, but it made everyone pull together in an emergency and made them realise that they were actually friends now who could rely on each other. Lovely, feel-good book with a fabulous dog in it.

4 star review of Snowflakes on Christmas Street by Ivy Pembroke

What's not to love? It's the most magical time of the year and also happens to be my most favourite holiday; I love any story that is centred around Christmas and the holiday season.

Ivy Pembroke is a new author to me and if this book is anything to go by I will be reading more from her as soon as I can.
A heart warming read, full of holiday spirit and one I enjoyed very much. Reading Snowflakes on Christmas Street, made me want to curl up under a blanket in front of a log fire, with a cup of hot chocolate (with marshmallows of course) and just immerse myself in the story.

A feel good read that will bring a smile to your face.

I received a copy of this book through the publisher via Netgalley.

Uplifting and heartwarming about one rather special street in London, called Christmas Street.

Before Sam and Teddy moved to Christmas Street, no one really interacted with each other, they were pleasant of course, but no real sense of community. They did and do still have Jack, a rather special dog who was left behind from his previous family and the street has sort of adopted him.

Jack goes from house to house, bringing people together, and of course on the scrounge for more food. It is through Jack and also Sam's desire for him and son Teddy to make new friends that very slowly the neighbours all start to get to know each other in unlikely ways.

The book even within each chapter does small segments about the residents of each house in the street, so you really get a good glimpse at all of their lives and just what is going on with them all. I really loved all the families, although there were a few characters that I wasn't as keen on until towards the end.

Although the street is called Christmas street - it isn't purely set at Christmas, as the story spans the summer through to the day itself, so its easily a story that would be quite easily read all year around. The messages throughout the book though most identify with the season of goodwill - its uplifting, slightly emotional and heartwarming.

I read the whole book in a few short hours as every time I tried to put it down to get on with life, I found it was calling me back for "just one more chapter" until I ran out of chapters! Any book currently that can hold me attention to that extent deserves special praise, and I just thoroughly adored this story.

This was the first book I have read by Ivy Pembroke and I'm already very curious as to what she has in store for us next, as this is a very accomplished debut novel.

Thank you Sphere and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

Lovely story about the people who live on Christmas Steet in London. It is also set in the run up to christmas.
We all know a character like Bill, and that makes you like him even though he is really grumpy!
Before Sam and his son Teddy moved to the street, the neighbours didn't really speak to each other, but collectively looked after Jack the dog who was left behind by some previous residents.

I wasn't sure how Jack, the abandoned dog, was going to fit into this story, but actually, despite not being dominate in the story he actually has a big impact.
It takes the arrival of Sam and his son Teddy to pull the street together. Back to the way, Bill, a widower, remembered Christmas street to have been. Now he keeps himself to himself, accepting that life will never be that way again. His only pleasure, albeit one he doesn't openly show, is that Jack, the dog left behind by neighbours long gone, visits Bill, when he's finished his visits to the other residents.
For homesick Teddy, Jack is the only positive in his new life. And Teddy's arrival stirs up an ownership battle for Jack. Jack who belongs to the street. Rather than battle with his new neighbours, Sam attempts to get to know them. Unwittingly, drawing people together who barely give each other the time of day.
With a plot that is a gentle one, Snowflakes on Christmas Street is very much character driven. It's human nature that we can be a nosey bunch, so getting to visit the characters and the homes they live in and the different way everyone lives their lives is a delight. The characters are so well developed and enjoyable that I found myself crossing my fingers that they would all find their happily-ever-afters. What they did was find each other and accept the difference in their personalities. All helped along by one sweet dog.
For such a gentle plot, this book packs an emotional punch! There's romance, the odd drama and a whole lot of satisfaction. The characters are real. These characters could be the same as those in your street. They could be you! I loved this book. The ending is lovely and perfect. Truly heartwarming!

This is the most heart-warming story.

It tells the tale of a father and son who come home after spending time in America. Sam is determined to make Teddy's life as great as possible, but Teddy hates England and wants to go back to America. They move into a lovely street where everyone kinda knows each other and they are all friendly and nice to each other.

Jack is a dog, he lives on the street and wants so desperately for a family to love him, but has given up all hope. When he sees Teddy his heart leaps with hope and Teddy for the 1st time in a long time begins to smile again.

I am going to be honest i sat and weeped, liked good old fashioned sobbing. I wanted to hug both Jack and Teddy into a big blanket and keep them safe forever.

A charming, heart-warming beautiful tale not just of Christmas but of compassion, kindness and love.

A heartwarming story that shows how one small dog and a newcomer brings a community together that have until now been unaware of each other's existence. You won't find any sex, drugs or rock and roll here! - just a feel good and at times tear jerking story leaving you with that magical,Christmassy warmth at the end

I admit that I struggled at first and couldn't get into the book. As I continued, though, the characters really started to grow on me. As I approached the end I was really keen to find out how it all ended. It is a warm and cosy book, and if you're in the market for one I recommend it!

If I have a criticism, it's the fact that the book does feel culturally muddled. There are moments and phrasing where it just doesn't feel like a book set in Britain. Which makes a certain amount of sense as (I looked her up!) the author is American. However, I am a big believer in suspending disbelief when it suits me, so I say gloss over those moments and enjoy a sweet story!
