Packed full of intrigue! With the first book in a new Colton's spin-off series, The Colton's of Red Ridge, Marie Ferrarella weaves in intricate story of secrets and deception that held my attention from start to finish. The characters are easy to like and you find yourself knee deep in wanting to figure out who the criminals they are searching for are. The ending was too abrupt for my liking, but we are left with a great lead-in for more to come in the series ... looking forward to it!

When K-9 police detective Carson Gage sets out for a night on the town, the last thing he expects is to be working on solving a murder by the end of the night ... especially when the victim is his very own brother! When the clues lead him directly to the door of his family's rival and particularly to single mom Serena Colton, will he be able to find justice quickly? Is she harboring his number one suspect on her ranch?

Serena Colton can't believe Carson is showing up demanding to search their home. Who does he think he is? She'll prove to him that no one is being hidden there, but she doesn't have to like it! When a new situation arises and an intruder puts Serena and her baby in danger, Carson finds himself risking a lot to keep them safe. When their close contact brings attraction flaring between them, will they dare to cross their family feud lines to attempt to have something together?

Gage is on the case to find the murderer of his brother. And is only clue seems to be leading towards the Colton family which his family has been in feud for many decades. While on the search for a suspect, Serena who is a Colton and her daughter seems to have a series of close calls. Leading Gage to want to protect her and the child and questioning whether or not the Colton family might be behind his brother's murder.

I thought this book had everything I love in a good contemporary suspense Romance. I love that romance connection between Serena and Gage wasn't overpowering the main part of the book. I love that there was enough mystery and suspense of when the possible killer would strike next. I really enjoyed reading this book has a pretty fast read for me.

This book is the first in a new series, that will be authored by different authors. The setting is Red Ridge, South Dakota, and there is a long standing feud between the Gage and Colton families, though most of the younger generation thinks the feud is ridiculous, and some even have romantic entanglements. Finn Colton is the chief of police and Detective Carson Gage is part of the K-9 unit.

Reluctant to go to the bachelor party for his half brother Bo, Carson nevertheless goes and finds Bo's dead body outside the venue. There are lots of clues leading to Demi C, his previous girlfriend, but are they real or planted by the real killer to frame her? Finn is her cousin, but gives no special treatment to his family.

Demi is a bounty hunter and disappears, leaving a note that she is innocent. While Carson searches for Demi and other clues, he comes in contact with Finn's sister Serena, a single mother, living on her parent's large ranch, the Double C. She is convinced that Demi is being set up. After someone takes a shot a Serena, Carson promises to keep her safe, while still working the case. But as the title announces someone makes an attempt to kidnap Serena's baby. Both Carson and Serena had both sworn off future relationship after being scarred by a past one, but can't fight the attraction between them.

This book is full of red herrings, villains and ends with a cliff hanger for the next author to solve. The characters are well developed and the plot original, but the book ends without resolution. I received a free advanced copy from netgalley.com for an honest review.

The suspense & mystery is well done, but the romance & chemistry between the main couple took a back seat. I just didn't feel any chemistry or true romance and that is what I look for in my fictional romances first and foremost.

Marie Ferarella delivered an amazing story. Filled with mystery and romance.
I haven’t read a book by Marie Ferrarella in quite some time. So, when I got the chance to read her latest book Colton Baby Rescue the first title in her newest series The Coltons of Red Ridge, I was excited and had to read all the back-log books to make room for this title.
The novel begins when Carson Gage comes upon a person lying face down in an alley. But once he turned the body over, he got a shock, when he glanced into the unseeing eyes of his brother. And it appears that his brother before he died left a message that points towards one of the Colton members that of his late ex-fiancée Demi Colton. Is Demi the murder or was someone trying to start a few between the Colton and Gages? When his investigation leads him to one of Demi’s relation that of one Serena Colton things heats up. Carson and Serena start bumping heads when he thinks that Serena is harboring his number one suspect. Then the book took a twist when an unknown person tries to kidnap Serena’s baby. Which leads Carson to suspect that maybe he was on the hunt for the wrong person in his brother’s death.
I really enjoyed this novel. It had a nice flow to the plot and instead of one mystery, you will be drawn into solving two mysteries. The characters were enjoyable. However, I didn’t like the way the novel ended on a cliffhanger. Nevertheless, I really enjoyed this quick and adventurous read.
