A fun read for anyone who enjoys a cozy mystery. I loved the holiday angle of this one too!

Verity Long is at it again in Murder on the Sugarland Express, the 6th book in the Southern Ghost Hunter Mystery Series.
Nothing screams romance more than a quiet train ride with the love of your life. This is exactly what Verity is looking forward to, unfortunately her plans and hopes go awry when her ghost nemesis Frankie the German tags along. If having Frankie along isn't enough to set Verity on edge, having her ex boyfriend on board the train will surely cause her to go nuts, especially since Beau is her current loves brother! Add mom into the mix and you have yourself a setting for disaster.
What Verity isn't expecting is to stumble upon another murder , complete with other ghosts that do not seem to approve of the living.

Cozy readers will enjoy this paranormal cozy mystery complete with laugh out loud moments.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to read an ARC of this story.

Murder on the Sugarland Express (Southern Ghost Hunter Mysteries, #6) is now my favorite story in the series.

It was nice to see Verity finally receive the apology she deserved from Book 1. Too bad it was in private and not in public as the humiliation was.

Ellis and Verity make such a great team, I hope that they have many more adventures in the future.

Once again, Lucy made me smile. We need more scenes with this lovable character. Maybe she'll find love in the next book, especially since a new skunk may be moving to Sugarland in the future.

I received a free, advance copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for my unbiased review.

Seriously love both Angie Fox and her character Verity. Well written, developed and enjoyable story that puts a twist on the typical romantic getaway trip - by Train with a 1920s mystery! Frankie and his antics always keep you laughing along the way which keeps me coming back for more. A read and series I'd recommend to anyone.

Picture Verity and Ellis alone on a peaceful, romantic train trip. Can't, can you? Of course you can't, because nothing around Verity is ever peaceful. So picture Verity and Ellis surrounded by all sorts of people and ghosts on a chaotic, dangerous train trip. Now you're there. And so are they, with nothing to do but solve the murders--past and present--and save the train and everyone living and dead on it.

Spoilers: <spoiler>On a character note, I really liked Verity and her mother-in-law as reluctant allies aka the only two people on this entire train who can Get Stuff Done. I also really liked her conversations with Beau and how she may feel sorry for him but that absolutely does not change her feelings about what he did. Verity is great.</spoiler>

Murder on the Sugarland Express by Angie Fox is the sixth installment in The Southern Ghost Hunter Mysteries. Verity Long feels the need to escape Sugarland, Tennessee after an incident with her ex-fiancé, Beau Wydell at the soft opening of Southern Spirits. Ellis Wydell, Verity’s boyfriend, books them on a trip on the Sugarland Express. Verity is hoping for a break from mysteries and ghosts while on the trip. Unfortunately, Frankie (her resident ghost) believes it will be the perfect romantic getaway for himself and his girl, Molly. Verity soon learns that the train has a dark history attached to it (and some unwelcome guests in the cabin next door). As the bell rings on the Sugarland Express, the old ghosts are being called back. The original train experienced a murder before a bridge collapsed and plunged the train into the icy river. Inspector De Clercq (a ghostly detective) is intent on solving the original crime. It is soon apparent that the Sugarland Express is following in the original trains footsteps (so to speak). A woman is found murdered in compartment 9 in the exact same spot as the original murder. Verity, Ellis and some unlikely allies set out to catch two killers—one past and one present. Will the train make it back to Sugarland or will it suffer a similar fate to its predecessor?

Murder on the Sugarland Express can be read alone. I found the story to be well-written, have a decent pace and enjoyable to read. I did find, though, there to be some repetition of details (and a couple of slow spots). A little fine tuning would not go amiss. Murder on the Sugarland Express has humor, intrigue, romance, ghosts, a cute skunk, and plenty of action. I loved the descriptions of the train (I found out something I never knew about the caboose). What mystery lover would not love to take a ride on a replica of a vintage train (especially one with ghosts and a mystery)? The mysteries were engaging with great details. I especially liked two clues on the vintage (1929) murder. I had hoped that the mysteries would be more challenging. It would delightful to finally see growth in Virginia and Beau Wydell (it’s about time). Whether it sticks or not remains to be seen. Readers will be entertained with Frankie’s hijinks. At the end of the book we get a hint of what to come in the next book.

In a fun tribute to Agatha Christie’s Murder on the Orient Express, the author places her lovable heroine, Verity Long, irascible gangster ghost hero, Frankie, and Verity’s stalwart boyfriend Ellis on a restored old steam train on which an unsolved murder occurred many years before.

I enjoyed how Verity has really come into her own when it comes to the existence of ghosts and her talent for solving crimes, ghostly or otherwise. She’s grown confident and independent though still a softy for helping others. And, in this installment, she and Ellis prove that they are a solid couple when his brother who is also her ex was attempting to stir up trouble for them and Frankie is up to his antics that disrupt the couple’s vacation. Adults in a relationship acting mature? Oh yes!

The mystery had echoes of the famous Christie story, but only so far as the murder happened on an isolated old train with all the suspects trapped together, no obvious motive, and a locked door mystery. Most of the story was just a great Southern Ghost Hunter adventure with some good twists to keep the reader guessing. How could I resist a mystery set on an elegant steam train journey through the mountains?

All in all, this latest installment of the series was a delight from cover to cover that was a light and easy read that I quickly devoured. Paranormal cozy mystery fans should not miss this series.

I found this to be such a fun modern read ! I also loved Agatha Christie when I was growing up, so to read something similar to those books was so much fun ! I loved the twist with the ghosts and how a murder from 1929 not only happened in the ghostly plane world but also in modern day life. Many twist and turns keeps you guessing The Who done it question!

The book opens with Verity Long celebrating the opening of her boyfriend Ellis' restaurant. Too bad the picture the local paper uses is one of her... in his brother's (her ex) arms. They decide to take a break on the recently re-started Sugarland Express. Frankie (the mobster ghost that Verity connects with) decides that he wants to go along and brings his sweetheart with them. Too bad the ghosts of the people who died on the original Sugarland Express are still on board and at least one is warning Verity that murder is going to happen again.

I liked this book for the way it moved Verity's relationships forward; with Ellis, his brother Beau, and their mother Virginia. The story itself... parts seemed to try to capitalize on <i>Murder on the Orient Express</i> (murder on a train, woman in a kimono) but don't connect and this was one of those books with not a lot going on in the first 3/4 of the book and then a dump of info at the end.

Great writing style!
Love how the author wraps up the introduction to the story in a fun fast way. This is the sixth installment of this series and you can catch up and get to know the characters without missing anything.
The story is complex and well developed. We get two mysteries to solve and enjoy a funny ride with Verity Long, Frankie the German and the whole Wydell family.
Filled with Southern charm, this is a must read paranormal-cozy-mystery.

This is a great book; this is the sixth book in the Southern Ghost Hunter Mystery Series written by Angie Fox. This book can be read as a standalone, but once you read it you will defiantly want to go back and catch up with the other book in this series. Verity Long is overdue for a little R&R (rest and romance) with her boyfriend Ellis, and a vintage train trip through the Tennessee mountains seems like just the ticket. The Sugarland Express carries history and nostalgia in every compartment, and Verity is determined to enjoy it without ghostly interference. But the ghosts have other plans. On a dark, desolate night nearly a century ago, the train was stranded in the mountains and a young woman was found stabbed to death in her locked compartment. The murder was never solved, and a ghostly Belgian detective is still pursuing the case from the grave. To Verity’s dismay, all of the ghostly suspects are back. And when history repeats itself and a new murder mirrors the old, it’s up to Verity and her friends to discover which of the passengers dead or alive could be behind the murders before the killer strikes again. This is a great book with a wonderful story and well developed characters. This book will keep you reading long into the night. If you are looking for a great book, then you need to read this book. I am looking forward to reading the next book by this great author. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader’s copy of this book. The free book held no determination on my personal review.

Normally I breeze right through these and they are funny and great. This one took me a little longer and had some lulls in it. I still love this series and will continue to read it. I love Verity and friends.

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

ARC - I voluntarily offered to review this book with no obligations and my opinions are honest!
This was supposed to be a romantic getaway.
Now Verity + Ellis are trapped on the train w/ his mother, his brother, and the murderer.
They have to solve the murder, before another passenger is murder
It is similar to "Murder on the Orient Express" by Agatha Christie.
Of course, Frankie is there trying to woo Molly w/ a romantic gateway as well.
I loved storytelling + the characters!

Can you imagine Murder on the Orient Express Southern Ghost Hunter Style? No? I had a tough time grasping that too because although there are several plot similarities, there are a whole lot more differences. But, the plot is a real kick and a bang up mystery, too and two. You get two mysteries to solve in this book, one a ghostly murder and the other a very real live one. Great book and a unique plot merging the ghostly realm with the real world.

Verity Long and boytoy, Ellis are longing for some away time from all the ghostly shenanigans and goings on that make up Verity's life in Sugarland, TN. Ellis manages to score the last compartment on the maiden run of The Sugarland Express train through the Tennessee mountains. The train is as authentic as possible, but with very modern amenities, of course. It also comes with a tragic murder and disastrous end for the "ghost" train.

80 years ago the train was stranded and a young woman was stabbed to death in her locked compartment. The murder was never solved. Those ghosts are back and the whole thing is played out again. Also back is a ghostly Belgian detective and he thinks Frankie is a cop too.

When the stabbing plays out again, in real life, Verity and Ellis are stuck on The Sugarland Express with both a ghostly and an all to real murderer. It's time for ghost Frankie and his girlfriend Molly to lend a hand to the living and help solve both cases before Verity ends up as a ghost too.

I have read and enjoyed this entire series but I have to say this is the best of all of them, hands down. First off, do yourself a favor and start at the beginning of the series so you get the most out of this entry. However, it can be read as a stand alone but why would you? Verity and her honey, Ellis, are taking a bit off time off from ghosts and family by going on a short train trip on the newly restored Sugarland Express. What could possibly go wrong? This is Verity we are talking about so the answer is....a whole lot can (and does) go wrong. For one thing her ghostly room mate, Frankie, insists on going along. Then things get really wild and Verity and Ellis have little time to relax and get to know each other better. Now they just need to get back home in one piece after solving a very, very cold case and an equally warm one. I'm already looking forward to #7.

All Ellis Wydell wanted was an intimate, soft opening for his new restaurant, to introduce friends and family to his new business, but he forgot to take into consideration one thing, his mother. Verity Long, ghost hunter extraordinaire, had a really bad feeling about the night Ellis chose for his opening. First, this night was the one year anniversary of what would have been her wedding to Ellis' brother. Second, both her ex, and her almost and potentially-still-in-the-future-but-OMG-it's-too-soon-to-go-there mother-in-law, Virginia, were going to be there. Third, Frankie, her resident ghost, talked her into dragging both him and his ghost-girlfriend to the opening.

Although after their not-so-wonderful entrance at the restaurant, everything went rather smoothly, neither Ellis or Verity was happy the next morning. The article that ended up in the newspaper was centered on the rumor that Verity's engagement to Ellis' brother was back on--it wasn't--and casserole toting neighbors congratulating her for it was just the icing on that crap cake. After seeing an advertisement for the maiden voyage of the Sugarland Express vintage train, Verity and Ellis found the escape they were craving. Days of just the two of them on a luxury train journey sounded like just what they needed.

The Sugarland Express was lost on its first maiden voyage in 1929 due to a faulty bridge, and this maiden voyage of the new and improved vintage train was looking to end in disaster as well. As past meets present, event for event, including the murder of a young woman in compartment 9, Verity and Ellis, with the unlikely partnership of Virginia, are racing the clock to solve both murders and vandalism before disaster strikes again.
Murder on the Sugarland Express is the sixth installment in the Southern Ghost Hunter series, and one of the best, in my opinion. Angie Fox has done a wonderful job of keeping the action and suspense very well paced and keeping whodunit well disguised for both murders, right until the end. I really loved seeing Ellis’ and Verity’s relationship going forward, their tie getting stronger as time goes by despite the bumps—craters—along the road of their relationship. I highly recommend Murder on the Sugarland Express to readers that love adventure, mystery, fun and happy endings.

Well with the latest version of the classic Agatha Christie novel being brought back to the big screen I'm hardly surprised that this author has been inspired to pen her own train murder mystery. As you would expect it's quite a doozy too with not only a ghostly murder to solve but one happening here and now in real time ! Poor Verity just wanted some quality time with her boyfriend Ellis and this historical train journey seemed just the ticket ! Trouble is there are people onboard who Verity is only too well acquainted with not to mention the ghosts that are haunting the train .
Ok I don't wish to give too much away but long time fans of this series will know that Verity is dating her ex's older brother . Which obviously causes issues but even more disturbing is the way Ellis's mother has really had the knives out for Verity . Here we just might start to see the dynamics change but to say more would ruin the fun.
What I can say is the effervescent Frankie and his new ( and very sweet ) girlfriend make their presence known which adds to the fun and lets face it chaos! I loved that Verity got swept along with all the ghostly goings on but it was the nefarious goings on in real time that really made this story hurtle along . Yes there's mystery but most of all it's a fun fast paced story that had surprises and an ending to make the most jaded reader smile
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair

Another fun adventure with Verity, the ghost seer, and her boyfriend Ellis, the brother of her ex-fiance. This one is a fun filled romp on a revised train, that has echos of Agatha Christie. Naturally Verity has to take her gangster ghost with her, and his new lady. And of course Ellis' brother and mother are on the train too. Poor Verity cannot get a break! Highly recommend this book, series and author. Hard to put down.

Old and New Murder Mysteries
Murder on the Sugarland Express is the sixth book in Angie Fox’s Southern Ghost Hunter Mysteries series. Ms. Fox has written a book with lots of laughs and an intriguing mystery that kept me guessing until the reveal. The story flowed smoothly and the characters are well developed. This book can easily be read as a standalone because the author has done an excellent job describing and explaining the main characters and their backgrounds. I recommend this book for everyone who enjoys reading paranormal cozy mysteries.

Verity Long has put her unconventional and unwanted ability to see and communicate with ghosts to good use and started a ghost hunting business, but she needs the help of Frankie, the 1920’s gangster ghost she managed to ground to her property in Sugarland, Tennessee. Frankie can’t leave the property unless Verity has his urn with her. Her boyfriend, Ellis Wydell, who is the Deputy Sheriff and her ex-fiancé’s brother, continues to believe in her abilities and is supportive of her helping the ghosts who need her. After attending the soft opening of Ellis’ restaurant, Southern Spirits, Verity and Ellis decide to go on a romantic getaway and take a vintage train trip on The Sugarland Express through the Tennessee mountains. Frankie convinces Verity to take him and his new girlfriend, Molly, who he wants to impress along, and to her dismay, Ellis’ brother, Beau, and their mother, Virginia are on the train. A ghost appears and tells Verity that a century ago, the train was stranded in the mountains, and a young woman was found stabbed to death in her locked compartment and tells her she must prevent the same thing from happening again. Unfortunately, history repeats itself and Verity is determined to figure out what happened not only on the original train trip, but on this one as well.
