I really liked this author and this book did not disappoint, it was an appropriately paced, page turner that will have me hooked throughout the story.

An interesting read with lots of deep family secrets. No one can imagine having family with so many secrets. The story line kept me engaged as you can believe family lives being affected by plots in the book. Really enjoyed the twists and turns.

Thrilling story, with a fabulous plot!! Highly recommend to everyone who is a fan of this genre. Kept me turning the pages well into the night.

Wow.. I am not sure I have recovered from the screwed up characters in this book. There's screwed up, and there's SCREWED UP. And this falls in the latter category. Secrets, betrayal, revenge, abuse.. It had all the bad that one book can have. The writing was fast paced and the twists came at the right time, enough to keep your attention till the end. If you can accept the dark and disturbing parts of the plot, it is a pretty decent book to read. But dark and disturbing is what the plot mainly relies on. I guess, for me, it became a little predictable towards the end. But I still enjoyed it.

After numerous attempts, I could not get into this story at all. I did not like the characters and the story did not move fast enough to keep my interest.

The book was good. Had some truly amazing parts but, fell a little flat overall. I’m going to give it a decent review as, it didn’t suck....there was just something missing.

Well well well, that was one fucked up story. And I can totally see this being loved by people who enjoy getting their heads fucked with.

This clearly wasnt for me. I had a hard time getting into it and found it couldn't hold my attention. While I will say that the cover and the description of the story, the idea of it, are really good, that's about where it stops for me. It wasnt what i was expecting. It wasnt a bad story, don't get me wrong there. There will be people who rather enjoy it as I have seen positive reviews. It just didn't interest me.

This was an enjoyable mystery with a lot of twists and turns. So many twists and turns at times it didn’t seem believable. It was very engaging. It is a confusing read at times with a lot of characters to keep track of. I found myself flipping back to double check some of the facts.

They weren't kidding when they said a "lifetime of secrets". The family in this novel puts the 'Dys' is the word dysfunctional.

"a family of felons and sycophants"

There are more damaged characters in this novel than any other I've ever read. A mother and three sisters who had no love for each other, or, it would seem, anyone else. The family retainer, housekeeper Delia Porter, was also an enigmatic woman. The reader wonders why she worked there for so many years...

Rachel Porter, an epileptic, was a pitiable character. She has been estranged from her family for almost twenty years. Her return to the house where she grew up brings about more trauma in what has already been an over-traumatic life. Her estranged husband, Charlie Jones, was my favourite character in the novel.

"The Limes", the house which the family calls home, is a vast, damp, cold, and gloomy house. The perfect setting for a family that was cold, loveless, and downright psychopathic.

The police officers in the novel were interesting characters. We meet Detective Sergeant Mike Ratcliffe and Detective Constable Angie Watson. Angie was a character that I didn't warm to at all. Though she was very smart and had been 'fast-tracked' into her position as Detective, I found her personality quite cold. Ratcliffe was more personable, but only just..

This novel, despite its lesser qualities was indeed a 'page-turner'. The writing was compelling and the pace fast. It contained several plot twists that I quite enjoyed despite the fact that I could see them coming. The myriad deceptions, poisonous lies, bitterness, malicious betrayals, revenge, abject cruelty and abuse, were just the tip of the iceberg. In fact, there was enough dysfunction within the plot that it could have been spread throughout several novels.

The bottom line - I did enjoy the novel enough to want to read more by this author. Recommended, but with some reservations.

After I've read this, I don't feel so bad about my own dysfunctional family anymore... this one tops me in all respects. It was an entertaining book, telling a story of a family that lost each other a long time ago.
Recommended.

I did not care for this book at all. Just did not hold my interest. Thanks to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for the ARC of this book. Although I received the book in this manner, it did not affect my opinion of this book nor my review.

I love the way the author captures the dysfunctional family element so well in her books, and this story is another one of those that is full of family secrets and feuds, lots of characters to distrust and twists and turns galore to keep you turning those pages until the end!

Rachel is returning home after the death her mother. She doesn't want to be there, and even missed the funeral, as there was very little in the way of 'love' between them, but she is needed for filling in some forms and on her return the ill feeling from the past is still very much on show between the children left behind, and even more so when a gruesome discovery is made at the family home.

It's up to DC Angie Watson to try and get to the bottom of the identity of those found, and to sort out this mess of a family who all seem to have questionable pasts and don't seem the most trustworthy of people.

The past really captures up with Rachel as her fits return and she is reunited with her ex, who is still smarting from the way their relationship ended - and another character with a dodgy record!

The more that is revealed during the story, the more I was hooked! There was so many twists and turns, secrets and lies that I would have sympathy for a character one minute, and despise them the next! I found it to be really cleverly put together with new revelations littered throughout that would leave you questioning the various versions of what went on in the family home 'The Limes' all those years ago.

Really fast paced and full of intrigue - really recommend it if you're looking for a great story to savour!

After reading this book, I understand the mixed reviews. There were some parts of this story that had me on the edge of my seat, but not enough of them. This is a story of a completely dysfunctional family. It was more than My Mother, the Liar, it was everyone, sister, grandmother etc. There was pretty much everything thrown into this story, incest, abortion, murder, stolen identities, epileptic seizures, wrongful imprisonment and others I have not mentioned. It was an okay read, but not one I would necessarily recommend. The publisher, HQ Digital, generously provided me with a copy of this book to read.

Did not care for the writing. A little to British for me. Could not get in to reading because I could not follow what was going on. Is very drawn out and did not instrest me. Not my normal read and do follow ruth ware and p.s. Paris so I do read British writers and have tried many.

Though My Mother The Liar is full of secrets and lies, it's also so full of characters I felt lost at times. Remember the old phrase "You need a scorecard to tell the players"? That's how I felt. I was attracted by the premise of the book, and by the synopsis. The story itself was entertaining. The pacing seems a bit choppy because there are so many voices/characters being heard from chapter to chapter. It may just be that my style of reading just doesn't match Ann Troup's writing style well. If you like family dram, secrets and lies, light suspense, and a variety of characters, this novel will probably fit the bill.

I quite liked the concept of this book, and it started well with a fractured, dysfunctional family after the death of the matriarch. However, as the book progressed, I found it difficult to follow the story, as it kept flitting around the characters. The concept is really good, but I don't feel the author has given it full justice this time.
