I did not read the first book in this series, but did not feel like it kept me from enjoying the book. I don't know if it was just my Nook, but it seemed like parts of the book did not download properly. I did like what I was able to read!

The kindle version is missing pages. What I've been able to read so far is very good. I tried to download again when I saw it was a problem, but that did not help.

Young Arthur "Artie" Conan Doyle is a detective in the making. Living in Scotland with his family, Artie and his best friend and sidekick Ham are reveling in a recent mystery solved when a mysterious invite to a magic show leads them on a path of danger, mystery and excitement. A fun little story full of intrigue and historical characterx, this occasionally heavy-handed novel should excite young fans of mystery.

The second installment in the Artie Conan Doyle series is as entertaining as the first, although some of the connections to the Holmes canon feel a bit forced. Kindle Paperwhite readers should be advised that due to a problem with displaying images (I can only assume images of card faces?) significant portions of the text are missing.
