This was an interesting read, as the hero is a self-described gambling addict. It was fascinating to see his struggles and how the time period treated them. I loved how the heroine treated the hero and inspired him. This was a sweet and clean romance, I'd rate it PG.

i had a tough time relating to the characters in this one. i listened to the audiobook, so i accept that could have influenced my opinion. i tend to prefer books i read in print over audio, then i dont let the reader's interpretation and performance affect my opinion of the writing. ultimatly, i was glad when i finished it because the plot just seemed to drag and i couldnt for the life of me bring myself to care about the "hero", and really struggled to understand why the heroine was drawn to him. I wasnt sure if his struggles to overcome adiction were authentic, or if it really was a healthy, non-co-dependant relationship.

I enjoyed this book. It was a clean regency romance. It is written in first-person point of view, switching back and forth between Nora and Devlin. This book is a stand alone, but has some of the same characters from "An Inconvenient Romance".
Nora has been basically engaged since birth to a man she has never met (not unusual). Their mothers were good friends, but their family moved to India when she was still a baby. She is beautiful, young, and musically gifted. Even though her mother has plans for her to marry a certain man, she is falling in love with Devlin. However, she learns of some (unrealistic to me) terms with the family inheritance that might change some things... and decisions must be made quickly.
Devlin is a nice gentleman, however he is not wealthy due to a gambling addiction. The addiction is a little too easily conquered.
It was predictable and I didn't like how some things happened. Overall, it was a decent book and I would recommend it to people who like clean regency romances.

3.33 stars. This 2018 Regency romance is sweet and clean, but deals with some darker issues. The chapters alternate between the heroine's and hero's POV. Nora Ellsworth is under pressure from her family to marry well; their family estate is under an entail, with a grasping cousin anxiously waiting in line. Luckily (maybe?), Nora's mother made arrangements for her to marry a nice young man when they were both babies! Unluckily, she's never met the guy ... until now.

Devlin Fausett is an otherwise great guy dealing with a crippling gambling addiction. I didn't feel like the handling of that issue was realistic in the end(view spoiler), given the seriousness of his problem. Also, did they actually call gambling an "addiction" back in Regency days? I seriously doubt it, and it's one of several things in A Tangled Inheritance that struck me as an anachronism. Another example: a temperature is stated in Celsius degrees, and I'm pretty certain that in the early 1800s England was still using Fahrenheit.

The story itself is interesting, but the writing style is more "telling" than "showing," especially in the first few chapters, which struck me as prosy, like a diary in style. That was probably my main issue with this novel, but toward the end it began to engage me more fully and became much more enjoyable.

This book was okay. I really loved the cover. It's gorgeous.

I didn't love the plot. It was okay. The story was told in first person and I had a hard time with it. I also didn't like the love triangle. I know that its part of the plot but I wasn't sold on it.

4.5 stars..

Wonderful, emotionally driven, clean, historical romance! I can’t wait to check out other books by this author. She has a gift for drawing the reader in with her true to life characters and setting descriptions. One of the focuses of this novel was overcoming personal flaws...how we can if we really try and others too have faith in us. Highly recommended to readers of this genre.

**Many thanks to Covenant Communications, NetGalley, & Chalon Linton for a copy to read & honestly review**

PS--I love the cover art!

A Tangled Inheritance is a standalone book, however, I would suggest reading An Inconvenient Romance first. Not only is An Inconvenient Romance a good book, but it's nice to see some characters show up in A Tangled Inheritance.

There were a lot of things I really liked about A Tangled Inheritance. I liked that Devlin Fausett is imperfect and we get to know his thoughts and reasons behind why he gambles.

I liked that Nora insists on standing behind a friend and supporting them regardless of the gossip surrounding them. A lot of people abandon others in times like this and care more about themselves.

When Devlin falls back on his old ways, Nora doesn't let him get away with it. She make sure he knows what he did is wrong which makes him less likely to slip again.

I liked the fact that a lot of time passes and they really get to know each other as friends first.

I loved the relationship between Devlin and his mare Raven. Their relationship made it even harder when he lost her.

There was a mystery throughout the book which I enjoyed and the book moved along at a good pace.

Mr. Trenton reminded me of an evil version of Mr. Collins from Pride and Prejudice.

A Tangled Inheritance was an enjoyable read that I would recommend.

This was Devon and Nora’s story. There was entail that needed to be broken. There was a villain who wanted to inherit. It was a very enthralling story. I finished it in one sitting. There were many twists and turns.

Nora Ellsworth is a young lady sought after by many eligible men, but knows that since birth she's been promised to Jonathan Browning, who has been living in India. His family is supposedly very wealthy which will help the Ellsworth's estate and help provide for Nora's mother and sister if anything were to happen to her father. Nora doesn't really want to marry without love. She understands how marriages work in their society but would prefer a love match, which she later realizes she would not have with Jonathan Browning.

Enter Mr. Devlin Fauset, who has the reputation of being a gambler, and is in debt because of it. Although he has a plan to get himself out of debt, the reasons for his gambling seem to draw him back to the card table right when I thought he'd gotten a hold of his demons. I was so disappointed in him. The more Nora and Devlin spend together their attraction to each other grows, which confuses Nora since her mother is really pushing her to marry Jonathan Browning.

Finally, at long last, Nora and Devlin realize their feelings for each other.
Nora Ellsworth: "To love someone based on a developed friendship seemed the best sort of companionship possible."

I couldn't believe how set the mother's were about Nora and Jonathan marrying, and they were completely oblivious that these two had no feelings for each other. I don't think they had too much in common to even be friends. I could not have lived in this period of time. Marriages were arranged for the benefits of the families for land and social standing.

I loved when Nora left the ball and went in search of Devlin when he fell off the wagon (so to speak) and started gambling again. I loved her feistiness when she finds him, and that she wouldn't allow him to blame her for his tumble off the wagon. She put the ball in his court but would be there to help him fight the urge to play cards. I liked that Nora's sister and Dr. Hadley also got their own happy ending. Yay for multiple HEAs.

This Regency is aptly named. Let's just say if this had been a contemporary romance a team of lawyers would've been needed to straighten out the inheritance issues in this family. I've read a lot of Regency romances but haven't encountered one with an entail. It certainly did complicate things since the Ellsworth family didn't have any sons, and the closest male cousin was the "insufferable" Mr. Trenton, who couldn't wait to get his hands on Ellsworth Meadows.

This is my first novel by this author although I read a novella by her in CHRISTMAS GRACE. I like that the book is written from the point of view of both Nora and Devin, and the chapters switch between the characters.

Thanks to Covenant Communications and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.

A Tangled Inheritance was not a book for me. It was quite slow and had a hard time getting through it. 2 1/2 stars.

To put it politely Mr. Devlin Fausett Is at a state of non-plus. More succinctly, he’s broke. In A Tangled Inheritance his creditors are hounding him.

When asked for an advance, his father flatly refuses without hesitation. Taking refuge from his creditors at his friends country home, his two-week stay turns into five when his friend falls in love. Staying to see the happy couple wed he realizes he must now return to town.

Miss Nora Ellsworth is a popular young lady but she has been betrothed since her birth to the son of her mother’s best friend. She awaits her betrothal’s imminent return from India.

When details of an entailment on her father‘s property come to light, however, it becomes imperative that Nora marry and soon. If she does not marry, all of her father‘s property will go to an obnoxious distant cousin who is the heir. This would leave her mother and sister destitute.

Mr. Trenton, the heir presumptive, is not a good man. Thinking himself a great ladies man, this insufferable gentleman would show up unexpectedly at Ellsworth Meadows. Announcing his plans for sweeping modifications and refurbishments did not endear him to the current occupants.

When Devlin first meets Nora it is that a ball. Having had to fend off the unwanted attentions of a previous dance partner, there is a dreadful incident where her fan “accidentally” bloodies his nose. As a result, Nora is slightly disheveled for her dance with Mr. Fausett. Devlin far from being dismayed is intrigued by the young woman who can handle herself so well and is an insightful conversationalist.

Dual Perspective

I enjoyed how the book was written with alternating chapters from the perspective of each of the main characters. Rather than having the entire book written from the perspective of only one character, this gave more insight.

For the most part, I’m not a big fan of arranged marriages, but the prospective groom, in this case, wasn’t all that bad. He would’ve made an adequate husband, and I would like to hear more about his story.

In all, it was a delightful tale with an interesting plot twist. There is tons of romance in the air, starting right from the first paragraph. A thoroughly enjoyable read.

Romance, clean, period
A love triangle, and Nora has to figure out who to give her heart and her fortune too. Who is the honest true heart. A redemption story of sorts. This was a lovely read, but the situations seemed a bit forced or contrived to me. I enjoyed most of the writing, and characters, but after a bit, they are forgettable. I read so much that I want that one book that stands out to me as memorable. More of a 3.5 for me as a reader, but rounded up for the beautiful cover art. The cover artist deserves a write up too.
Those who are looking for clean reads that love a nice period setting will enjoy this.

What a thoroughly engaging story! Thanks to a sick day, I was able to indulge and read this in one sitting. It was so engrossing, I don’t think I could have set it aside if I had to!

The slowly unfolding friendship/love story is to through alternating points of view of the heroine and hero. Each has their own battles to face (hers caused by familial circumstances, his by a gambling addiction), and I was fascinated to see how they would each solve their problems.

Torn between two very different men, she must make the ultimate decision. Will she be guided by her head or her heart?

This was a great read. It has many fun elements. A huge tangled web of motives and deceit, multiple suiters, pushy parents, a sick sister, romance, etc. Wonderfully intricate story!!
I received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review.

Inheritances can be tangled and messy and most definitely have very little regard for love. Nora finds herself well sought after in society and yet, since she was little she has known that her life was leading to a betrothal and marriage to the honorable and wonderful Jonathan Browning. She's never met him and can't help but feel apprehensive as she becomes older and the time is drawing nigh for her to meet and marry him. The Browning family has been in India where they have made their fortune and will soon return to England to allow for Jonathan and Nora's courtship.

Nora is faced with some difficult questions that she can't quite find the answers to. Her mother is of no help as all she can think about is how wonderful the Brownings are. Nora has not allowed her heart to be open to anyone because she has grown up with the expectation of basically being betrothed to a stranger, albeit family friend. But that man she keeps encountering at society functions and outings has definitely caught her attention. When they are set in each others paths again and again Nora and Devlin Fausett start a friendship. And friendship is all it can be. Yet Jonathan and Devlin aren't the only ones who are entranced by Nora's beauty and goodness, the dreaded cousin who will inherit her father's estate has also been keeping his eye on her.

I really enjoyed these characters. There are some struggles that they are each facing individually and I loved how the author addressed them. She didn't make the vice/struggle instantly disappear. They had to work at it to overcome it. There's jealousy and scheming, lies and deceit, truth and hope, friendship and love. The familial relationships explored in this book were also well done. I will say that sometimes I was frustrated with characters and wanted to tell them a thing or two. Shake some sense into them. But of course I couldn't, I had to let them figure it all out and keep reading to see how they all worked together/individually to figure out life.

The writing style was a little different and at first took me a couple chapters to adjust to. But it worked in allowing a greater understanding of two of the characters whose point of view it switched back and forth between. Nora's sister and mother occasionally frustrated me but every regency novel needs a couple irritating characters (like the Bennet sisters and mother right?-except these two weren't quite as irritating).

The scenes with music in it. Oh, how I loved those scenes. Especially with the words written in for the songs. Very sweet and swoony!

Overall I enjoyed this book. It is a stand alone novel but the beginning characters are the main characters from this author's previous book, An Inconvenient Romance. The beginning of the book revolves around their marriage and some matchmaking schemes, and they appear a couple times throughout the book.

Content: Clean.

Honestly I tried, I really tried to get through this book. I love historical fiction; it’s one of my favourite genres. But this book was so slow, I kept waiting for the book to pick up, it get interesting. But it never happened. It just kept dragging on and on. I hate to say it but I finally had to DNF it which I rarely do.

This book was super cute. The characters were great. I appreciated that Nora and Devlin were friends before love happened. I enjoyed the mystery and evil plot. A fun, quick read!

Nora has expected all her life to marry Jonathon Browning, but she has never met him because he grew up in India. Now he is coming home and she is to meet him for the first time. But, charming though Jonathon is, her friend Devlin is quite distracting, and somehow she seems to care more about Devlin than Jonathon. Devlin is addicted to gambling and knows himself to be quite ineligible for that reason. But his feelings for Nora are strong, and if she has to get married...? And in the background is a third man, who may not be quite as innocuous (though unpleasant) as everyone thought...

I read this right through, but didn't particularly enjoy it. It is clean, but I found the writing not great and the storyline lacking. A good editor could fix up many of the issues with the writing that I found distracting (like that drooling kiss - disgusting, but also unrealistic?), but the whole story just didn't seem to me to quite hang together. The characters didn't seem real and their behaviours seemed often rather illogical. Not a terrible book, but I won't be reading more by the author.

Note that I received a free copy of the book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I was not required to write a positive review and this is my considered opinion of the book.
